sorry guys that i just found this info and i've had it for at least 3 years now. Here is a PDF showing all of the non interference engine in the Lexus line. This is straight from Toyota/Lexus and will show all the non-interference engines. Good Luck to all performing timing belt changes.:cheers:

Could you explain what the table means? I'm having trouble understanding it, having read the whole document twice. :)

This document does not seem to be in the format of any official Toyota/Lexus document I've seen and it covers relatively few model years. Plus, the document has the phrase "Although the vehicle manufacturer does not recommend a specific scheduled maintenance interval". Toyota/Lexus definitely specifies timing belt replacement intervals in the owners or maintenance manuals that come with their cars.

There has been a phenomenal amount of misinformation in the various forums on which are and which are not interference engines. If you want to know which is which, I suggest that you ask a Lexus technician who has taken these engines apart.

LOL.....what a worthless document. Why would you trust a document with absolutely no information on who wrote the darn thing?????

Take 1990LS400's advice and ask a technician.

I have to agree with 1990 and kc. Not only is this not an official Toyota document, this pdf has does not credit any author. It is anonmous and contains errors. I would not use it to determine the interference issue for any engine.

It is not from toyota as it is not in their format of releses nor does it name themselves.

Oh well back to the old VVT or above is all internerence.

Sorry Guys, this looks an awful lot like the infamous Gates (Tire &) Rubber document in circulation that contains potentially catastrophic, incorrect information. As has been pointed out, it is not an official Toyota document, for the reasons previously stated.

As far as specifics, I can only comment on 1UZFE, LS400, 1995 1/2 & newer. Lexus increased the compression ratio a couple of tenths in mid '95, hence the 1UZFE became an interference engine, I absolutely guarantee it. Been there, done that. The unfortunate part about this is that everyone thinks that ALL 1UZFE engines are non-interference, which is NOT the case.

Prior to the change (small compression ratio increase) in mid '95, 1UZFE was a non-interference engine.

Lexus do just about everything right, but they should be flogged with a wet noodle for not re-assigning a new series number to the motor. They should also be called bad names for their choice of location of the starter as well as the whole Power Steering Solenoid Screen/Filter mess.

Of course, all VVTI engines are interference.

Rather than argue about it, if a person is down to their last 5 or 10,000 miles before the required T/B belt change, just change it, don't chance it. That whole "sleeping at night thing"........

i want to lock this up so this thread and the original post will sink deep deep into the abyss or junk . Otherwise it will keep getting bumped up with questions and someone will read it wrong.
