ChBr02
On 6-8-12, I had the 20K service at my maintaining dealer for my 2010 ES350. I asked for the latest map upgrade. I was charged $169.00 for Part Number PT219-HDDG6-11 which is the Gen6 11.1 version of the North America map. I just took it back for the 25K service, and pointed out to the new service writer that my map data showed that I have 10.1 He said that he checked with someone in the Service Department, and they said I had the correct one. Now, I know that's baloney. I have been ripped off. They did give me an empty thumb drive w/ Lexus logo at the time of the supposed upgrade. Does Lexus have Area Managers where I can complain. My previous service writer (who I used for 7 years) was the Asst Service Manager, and we were always able to workout any problems. But, he was always straight with me. When I had Oldsmobiles, I got to know the Area Manager personally. Does Lexus have these? How do I find the one for Chattanooga? Thanks for any help! James Horning
The process in updating the map is time consuming a involved . A) the battery must be fully charged or the programming will not be allowed to take place B ) a special battery charger is used to maintain system voltage with the key on. C) if there are firmware updates this have to be preformed first , updating of map data is not allowed until you do this. D) you use the Lexus tester to load map data on to a harddrive that loads the key file to the vehicle. E) The dealer that I work at only two of us do updates it's a precise process, and it's far from financially rewarding. On the way is wireless updates as the technology grows. F) please recontact your dealer, have it inspected by the diagnostic specialist , be kind , we are all under pressure these days the entire business is commission based and service departments are now the main financial support of the dealerships, there is very little gross in the new car markets. Find a genuine writer and a skilled tech, your situation will be resolved with professionalism that you expect from Lexus.
LexBob2
Also, if you get some satisfaction from the dealer, and 11.1 wasn't loaded, be sure to get version 12.1 which is available now. Updates come out around October each year, about 4 months after you bought 11.1.

Unfortunately, none of the service writers that have been there since 2003 when I 1st started going there. I do have a friend in Sales who recently started there. He promised me that I would never again find a better deal on purchases (I got a better deal by $2,700 + tax) from another dealer & this dealer had that price. Unfortunately, that doesn't get my GPS updated. Not sure who else to talk to. This new service writer also put the wrong oil in my car after a long discussion. This is not giving a very good comfort level with this dealership. BTW, the thumb drive that I was given after the "map update" has on the back DENSO LA437970020 00060000000496 Does that give you a clue what version this represents? Not sure if they installed the wrong version or they messed up the update. I just don't like telling me that everything is okay, when it is clearly not. One of the updates in 11.1 was in Autauga County, Alabama where I travelled to several times recently. I had to use an online map (And some personal directions) to get there the 1st time. Still, the directions given to the Mark I made were hit & miss. I just learned the area. Yesterday, I was directed in a very large circle (about 6 turns) near Atlanta. Then, it wanted me to go the same way again. Does this GPS have something personal against me? The wrong turn it directed me to was only .6 miles away from the correct turn which it didn't want me to take when I got there. Oh well, I made it home okay with the GPS off. Thanks again for your reply.

Sometimes I can get to the 12.1 page on Lexus.com, but most of the time when inquiring about the latest version, I am directed to the 11.1 page. It's possible that he could be correct on this one. I had a 2010 ES350 which I traded in. Before I decided to sell it I checked at a nearby dealership and confirmed the thumb drive with version 12.1 was in stock ($169). It was released on October of this year. I've seen on another Lexus forum posts by owners of various models, including ES350's who have had 12.1 installed. I hope you are able to get some resolution on this.
jgilbert
Does anyone know whether a Nav update will update the lousy software for the ipad integration on the ES 350's audio system? Anyone addressed this issue?
SW03ES
Nope, its just map data.
jsmythe
Thanks to this topic I was able to resolve the same issue when I paid for a 12.1 upgrade and the update aborted in the middle. The tech tried to tell me it was done but the display still showed 9.1. I spoke with the Customer Assurance people at the dealership and in Corporate. The Lexus USA Customer number 800-255-3987 was helpful and verified that I should see 12.1 on the info panel. The dealership did not hassle me at all and had me come in and made sure the right techs were around. They also refunded my money which was the best part of the whole thing! Thanks for the feedback. Also thanks for the Customer number. Not sure why I hadn't found that yet. My prior 2001 Lexus ES300 was purchased in New Jersey at Cherry Hill, I think. It's still going strong. I get to see it about once a week. A friend bought it from me.
jsmythe
The Lexus Customer Satisfaction folks called me everyday for about a week while I was away to follow up on my issue. I don't know it they would have interceded with the dealership, it sounded like they would but it turned out it wasn't necessary. The number is a good piece of information that I stumbled upon and it's not even on their website.
