What Do You Collect?

This is only part of my model car collection. I probably have 60-70 1:24 model cars, all wrapped up and in archive boxes. These pics are of my 1:18 scale models. I forgot 2 others before my camera ran out of batteries, a Porche 911 GT1 and the 2004 Conseco Indy 500 replica.

Here's a place to show us what you collect. B)

I've bought them all over the place, probably the most rediculous amount I've paid for one was the McLaren F1, $35 Canadian while in Toronto at an auto show. Cheapest was the Porsche Cayenne, $7.99 at Costco. B)

Was looking for my first 1:18 scale model, a black 1991 LS400, but I couldn't find it. :cries:

Oops, I forgot a few up on my window sill. B)

The lone Lexus wheel you see is all that is left of my LS400. :(

The Escalade is probably my favorite, because it has actual seat material in it, really thin leather. I put it together my self. :D

I have a few 1:18 and ~1:64 model cars that i have customized ;)

I bought a 1999 Rx300 from autoart and turned it into my (at the time my aunts) 01-03 Rx300.

Things i did on the EXTERIOR:

-stripped the black paint, primed it, then painted it blue (indigo ink pearl)

-painted the housing of the front headlights chrome to make it look 01+

-reconstructed the rear taillight housings to make them look 01+

-drilled out the front headlights to add in white (Lumex) LED's

-drilled out spots to add front foglamps (miniature BULBS)

-added red LED's to rear tail lights.

-for the lights on the tailgate, i had to add metal springs to the hinge so the tailgate could still be opened and the lights could be on.

-drilled the holes and added side parking lights (2 yellow, and 2 red LED's)

-drilled the 2 holes and added 2 bulbs for license plate lights (BULBS)

-added an antenna out of thin wire

-cut out moonroof and made it tilt

-created rear license plate to match my aunt's + license plate frames

-out of thick solder, created a front grille guard (mirror finish)

-created a rear spoiler

-sliced off the "L" from an SC430 from Maisto, and put it on the tailgate of the RX

-painted on "LEXUS" and "RX00" on tailgate, and VCS symbol

Things i did on the INTERIOR:

-got rid of the old steering wheel (not 01+ style)

-took steering wheel off an SC430 from Maisto, painted on walnut trim wood grain with paint, using mixing technique of red and brown. Added on clear coat. (LOOKS LIKE REAL WOOD!!)

-did the same for shift knob and everywhere else there is wood

-drilled out gauge cluster area, and created gauge cluster so it can light up. Went on ebay and got a pic of a gauge cluster. Fixed it up a little on paint, when printed, light only shines through the clear areas. Added tinting film over this, so you're only able to see it when lights are turned on. Look soo real!! (3 white LED's)

-did the same for navigation. (2 white led's)

-re-did the center console area and added 2 green LED's to back so light up at night.

-added green SMD's to door switches for windows etc.

-re-painted the whole interor...dashboard and seats etc. + steering wheel + shift knob.

Please take a look at some pictures..The car is about 3 eyars old, so it's not in the best shape. These pics were taken when it was just completed. Enjoy!! Please free to ask any questions i might be able to answer for you...

Uhm...

HOLY CRAP! :o :o :o

That is an incredible job on that RX300, that must've taken days, maybe weeks, to complete. Very impressive.

The only modding I've done to my cars is to my remote control VW Beetle. Custom Sharpie paint- with NX, HKS and Turbo badges added, yellow cardboard mudflaps, protection bumpers removed, rear seat removed, CD player installed with 2 sets of headphones as speakers, and duct taped the bottom for aerodynamics. The liscense plate is "Viscious". :whistles:

After i painted it i waited 3 weeks for it to cure. Then it took about an hour or two a day for a month to finish it. It was a chalenge, but worth every penny and second.

After spending all week in both of my attics I'll have to say the thing I collect the most of is junk. Been to the dump twice, Goodwill tomorrow.

Other than that I seem to also collect cars, way to many around here.

LexKid- Thats awesome, fantastic work! I love how real all the lights and the interior look. Amazing!

Alan- Unfortunately no one makes one, I've looked all over the place.

Thanks, i tried to make the lights look as real as possible.

and yes, no one makes the 02+ ES AT ALL. The only 1:18 lexus's out there are the 89 (well 90) LS400, 99 RX300, 99 GS400, 01-03 LS430, and the 01+ SC430.

I want to see if they make the Rx400h soon. I'm sure they will.

Too bad......I've been searching for an '02-'03 ES model since 2002. I guess there's not a great deal of interest for this model. :(

Wow, 1:64 cars are pretty small, takes a skilled hand to paint those suckers.

I also have about $1000 worth of Playmobil and 2 20 pound boxes of Legos from when I was a "kid". AKA 6 years ago.
