hammer008 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 The picture is in New York while escorting these four ladies for breakfast before the US Open. They just "loved" my Lexus and thought it was new. :D Anyhow, I was embarrassed when the Lincoln town car taxi (those black lemosine taxis) was so much smoother than the ES300 with bumps. Is that normal? The suspension seemed only a bit better than the regular yellow NY cab in battling NY downtown road. Should I upgrade my struts. I know they are working because my mechanic says so but can I get a smoother ride like the lincoln with new ones? Opinions please...I want to impress them. ;)
Lexusfreak Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Well it's possible your shocks/struts might be wearing out. Do you have AVS (adjustable variable suspension)? For some reason, I can't see your pic on my puter either :cries: lol
IlyaIlya Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Lincoln town car (especially the older one's) are the best in luxury ride, Nothing beats a lincoln in smoothness , since its pretty soft and is like a boat so u dont real any bumps, at least thats what i heard from people who drove them for years, and seats in there are like couches, lexus is smooth but its more solid ride in my opinion, hope this helps, they also say that no other car beats cadillac in luxury.
steviej Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 um.. town cars have air suspension... not to mention a much longer wheelbase which will add to the smooooth ride. steviej
hammer008 Posted September 12, 2004 Author Posted September 12, 2004 Hmmm, thanks for the input people. I guess I HAVE been spoiled by my Subaru's air suspension. The greyish looking thing next to the Lexus is my 15 years old Subaru workhorse with air suspension. Ugly and rusted as heck but a suspension/ride that is close to a Lincoln town car. Who would have thought that my beat up Subaru still has one over my newer Lexus!
bartkat Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Heck, I thought you just made up the story so you could post a pic of the ladies. :D
SKperformance Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 you want a smoother ride, put some monroe sensa tracs and lift eh suspension by 2 inches ,it will be smootehr than butter but look like an RX
SW03ES Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 The issue is that "smooth" is in the eye of the beholder as is "luxury". Some say that Cadillac is unsurpassed in luxury but I don't agree, I don't find Cadillacs luxurious or smooth riding at all. Poor interior materials either overly boaty or overly taut suspensions do not a luxury ride make. Same is true of Lincolns. The Town Car is not only probably 2 feet longer than your ES and maybe a 1000lbs heavier it also is very softly sprung, has a ladder type frame, is RWD, and has an air suspension. All of these things make a difference when comparing ride characteristics. Another point to consider is that your generation ES is designed to be sportier with better handling than the LS which was the luxury offering at the time. Thats not the case now and the new ES' ride much smoother than gen 1 models, but they are several steps down in the handling department. I personally don't like the way Town Cars ride, I think they're wallowy and boaty while the Lexus is more solid and rides more like its on glass. Its all personal preference.
