-drifting-

I don't know if any of you guys have ever played Grand Turismo 3, but, I want to go drifting so bad :). I may take my RSX Type-S drifting someday. I don't think it would work very well with the 92 LS tho :(

RSX is front wheel drive.........good luck drifting

your car has to be set up for those type of conditions. drifting, and doughnuts and such is really hard on a vehicle, especially a heavy luxury car like ours.....its just not made for that kinda thing.

it would do more hurt than it would be fun, have to have the right car.

BTW i love GT 3........can't wait until november when GT 4 comes out

well, when i first bought my 94, i was not thinking of how harmful this kind of driving can be. it IS possible to drift in an LS, but can be tricky, and only for a short time, like around one 90 degree turn. i have drifted many times around the same turn (a 4 way intersection) near my house when the roads were wet. it was a left hand turn on a 4 lane road. i have tried to drift around this turn when the roads were dry, and could not get the rear end to break loose. if you have never drifted in a real car before, i would strongly suggest that you dont try. it takes a lot of driving skill and quick thinking. i also know that you are 16 and dont have the years of driving experience that many members have and you probably dont know the limits of your 2 ton vehicle. i am an exception. i am 17 but i learned how to drift in other smaller vehicles in parking lots and such. i also learned how the LS behaves while sideways driving on gravel, sand, and on snow and ice this past winter. i just tell you this so that you dont go out and crash your car.

once again, i suggest that you dont try this. if you must, experiment under controlled conditions such as a parking lot or somewhere that you wont hit something should you lose control.

i do NOT drift anymore. i've had my fun with it and i now realized that its not worth the risk of totalling my car. plus drifting can tax your vehicle more than you think.

but u need the power to drift

any LS has enough power to do this. even the older ones. plus doesn't the 92 LSs have the smaller tires? im pretty sure that 90-92 LSs had smaller than 225/60/16 like my 94 has. i beleive they are 205/60/16 which means they are 205 mm wide. if i can drift with my 94 with 225 mm wide tires, it would be easier with tires that get less grip b/c they are narrower.

no lsd makes it scary. but i did start to drift on a wet day going 70  on the freeway too. but most other times on this car the diff gave way to either side swinging the car but these were more powering out kind of deals not really drifting.

drifting is possible... as i tried many many times on certain turns, also im a gt3 fan i have made as many as 5 cars drift types and boy they are fun i know nothing about spring rates or hieghts or what not but after maybe 3 hours of tuning and testing i got a wrx a trueno a old rx7 infinity mazda miata and ... i cant remember the last one anywho trying to drift with a lexus is great fun but i dont recomend doing any super runs or trying to be a down hill specialist!! haha cus it WILL mess up your car and U WILL feel differneces in the car after doing them, most of the time on dry land u can just fish tail it a bit, but if u can get to a turn thats very tight u can drift a lil bit by quick brake accelerate during turn adn maybe switch off between braking and acelerating and cutting into the turn early is a must....

but please do not go out and find places just to do it the risks outnumber the benifits, u got a risk of hitting oppisote traffic, u might and proably need to realign, if u try way too much the wieght of the car might put way too much pressure to one side and cause tire blow out, and u will scare the f*** out of anyone behind u or in your car... that is unless your friends are drift manics like u and are hopped up on watching initial D everyone who is interested in drifting should watch that, its an anime all about drifting , i recommend using bit torrent to down load the episodes, but block buster has them in stock i think in light of this new car racing fad...

anyways guys go buy a sh*tty car like a trueno or a used miata and go drift that starting like that gives u no fear cus those cars will be POS already and u wont have to ruin your beautiful LS

Im also a big fan of the Gran Turismo games, and have been playing them since the 1st one on PS1....i still play GT3 alot now,and its been out since 2001 if i remember rightly.

There is Gran Turismo Prologue out, which ive also got....The physics game engine has been updated and so have the graphics....its also got some new tracks to learn. Its only a small game, and is really a stop gap until GT4 comes out.

If your a fan of GT3 then this one is a must....if you finish the game and its saved on the memory card, when GT4 comes out,you can load GT4 up and you will get bonuses for finishing Prologue ;)

1UZ-FE,yea your right about the wheels and tyres on the early LS..my car had the standard wheels wearing 205/65/15....i found the car understeered to much for my liking in the wet or dry weather,so you would have to scandinavian flick the car to dial out the understeer, then you could get it to drift :D

The car now wears 245/40s or 45s/18s,(cant remember the profile with out going out and having a look, and its *BLEEP*ing down with rain at the moment)

In the wet or dry with the 18s theres now no understeer :) ;)

In the dry ive not yet got it to drift cos of the amount of extra grip,But i went out last night in rain in the car,and after adjusting the steering wheel away from me,to give me abit more room for me arms to steer quicker, the car was amazing in the wet, very easy to drift because the tyres let go before the body has chance to roll...

I was driving down some back roads that i know very very well and its a very quiet road.

Its best to learn on a skid pan trackday which is not on the public roads and they have lots of open space and run off,it was one of the first things i did when i passed my test years ago.

I dont recommend trying this drifting lark on a car of this size if youve never done it before...get some proper training and learn from the pro`s ;)

Heres a couple of laps onboard my old 24V Vauxhall (GM) Senator Auto 3 litre,on a trackday a few years back up at Castle Combe Circuit near where i live in Bristol

Shes drifting slightly, didnt want to drift and hang the back of the car out to much as its not the fastest way around the track..

GT3 is king of the hill.. always will be. At least 'till GT4 comes out. Can't wait. Since you guys are all GT fans, does anyone do Project Gotham Racing 2 on Xbox Live? I'm on there all the time. Would be cool to see some of you guys there and swap some paint.

very nice chips. that was excellent driving. do you do this often? you are very lucky that you can do the whole road course thing. i wish that there was a road course near me that didn't charge an arm and a leg to use it. i would be in heaven if i could take just 1 lap around a course like the one you drove on.

Im glad that you liked it,on the video it does`nt look like im going that fast, but the cars a auto and its mainly in 2nd gear most of the way around the track, car does 50mph in 1st and if you listen you can here it getting into 3rd on the main straight, car does 80mph in 2nd...the car was completely standard wearing 205/65/15 wheels and tyres...and as you can see the balance of the car is very good. The hardest part is making sure the car shifts down before you turn into the corner, because the auto box is computer controlled, you select the lower gear manually but it wont change down until its revs are low enough as to not over rev the engine,so you have to time you braking and hope you slow down enough in a straight before it shifts down a cog before turning into the corner or if she down shifts mid bend you will be caught out and have oversteer when you dont want it.

Ive been going up to the track since the early 90s so i know the track like the back of my hand, the trickist corner is the one after the start/finsh straight as its blind and thats the place to stand to watch others, ive caught alot of cars on video going off there. There is 4 or 5 trackdays a year open to all the public to drive around, and it is around £25 for 5 laps.Back in the 1950s it was used as the F1 track,Arton Senna raced there in the 80s before he got into F1.

Im very lucky to live so close to the track its just 10 mins up the road from me.

Ive not driven around the track for a couple of years, the last time in the Senator the engine blow up and i had a oil fire on the induction side of the engine,i put the fire out with a 2litre bottle of diet coke i had in the car :D ,the car would have gone up in flames by the time the marshalls got there  .

I still go up to all the trackdays, theres been 2 already this year, but i dont want to chance the 400 around as i dont think the brakes or suspension are up to it,it would to easy to cook the brakes as the car is so heavy, and the suspension is to soft to cope with the braking on the first tricky corner as theres a brow before it and i think the front bumper skirt would rub the road.

Sorry to rattle on guys,as you can see from my long posts once you get me talking its hard for me to stop  :D

I was taken around the track this year by a friend of mine in his Bmw M3 csl...now that car is really quick and stops and handles like nothing else ive been in,but at £58k its way out of my league.

It's a video that you can buy online or over the phone, and the commercials are on at night, like 11p.m. and t shows people doing stuff illegally on public roads. Street racing, bikes being riden upside down or standing on their seat, and all these other stunts. For instance, there was this one, where these kids were driving a car, hit around 60 or something and crawled out and was standing ontop of their car and as the car approached the stop sign, it had slowed down enough to stop right in front of the sign, how crazy is that? But like most things in the world, "s*x sells", so there is some adult content not suitable for children.

here's the link. But, it may be stupid, just like most videos you see on those commercials :(
