  1. How long do you plan on keeping this new car? All of the cars you mentioned are pretty reliable, but it all depends on what you expect from them. The Rx400h has very new technology and with already 100,000 miles on the clock, may end up costing more in maintenance. Personally i'd go with the 07 ES, from the ones you selected.
  2. Do you want to literally take the "lenses" off of the units? You don't need to remove the lenses, just mask off the surrounding areas (once you have the lights removed from the car).
  3. Had you taken the needles off before? Did that needle just break on its own?
  4. 04-06 LS430 are identical. For 2007 Lexus put out the LS460. <_< 01-03 LS430 was basically the same as 04-06 with only a few cosmetic changes made in 04.
  5. Thanks for the compliments. :)
  6. Definitely never heard of this one- who detailed the car? If the car's still under warranty see what the dealer can find... But ultimately whoever detailed the car is responsible.
  7. Yeah, it can probably be fixed but not 100%- how picky are you/the owner of the car? Lexus dealers outsource leather people to do these types of repairs. I'd ask Lexus for their number and get an estimate...
  8. It's pretty easy to do, you just need a steady hand, some toothpicks, scissors (to sharpen the toothpicks to a point), some black acrylic paint (comes in a little bottle at most craft stores, such as Michael's...) and some Krylon "Flat Clear" spray paint. For the moonroof control buttons, I didn't have to paint the "letters" actually, as they were already on the buttons. The buttons had the white lettering (same as you see) but the buttons themselves were tan. I just painted "around" the lettering with the black paint using the toothpick as a paintbrush. Then after it was heat dried, i sanded the painted areas smooth (to eliminate bumps) and applied a few thin (NEVER spray it on thick) coats of the Krylon flat clear which hardens the finish and adds protection from wear. I also did the same for the Homelink garage door buttons. And for the little strip that reads "DOOR/OFF/ON", i just cut out the little piece from the Rx's factory clear plastic lens which contained this lettering, and painted around the lettering the same way i did with the moonroof buttons. I sanded it thin and glued it to the panel. And for the rear seat passenger dome light, i had to cut and move around the pieces with the lettering and glued them together so they'd be in the right order. Then sanded, and painted the same way as the others. I REALLY wish i took pics along the way as they would have been more useful.. It's hard to explain how to do it without pics.
  9. I'm a 21 year old male driving a hybrid RX. If i can survive the insults, anyone can!
  10. Paul, what do you mean when you ask if your ES's leather has the "new coating"? I believe the only coating they're talking about is the polyshield coating you need to pay a rediculous amount for at purchase, the junk that they spray on (which just rubs off). These coatings aren't permanent or anything, it's just like "waxing" the leather. My guess is that the leather in the 2010 ES is the same as that of the 2010 Rx... I do know Lexus offered two types of leathers for the ES depending on which package you got, some type of semi-aniline material vs the regular stuff. I believe the semi-aniline leather is even softer than the regular type.
  11. It's stupid... you need to have the dimmer below the click to toggle between day and night mode. Otherwise it doesn't change brightness no matter what. I don't like to leave the dimmer down because it also dims the gauges, to the point where they're TOO dim for me. So, i just keep my dimmer on MAX and manually raise and lower the brightness on the nav. I like the look of the white screen better sometimes than others... But i suppose for normal people it's a good feature... it's all automatic. Even if you go under a bridge it'll instantly dim the interior lights!
  12. SW, do you still drive the ES300 once and a while? It must be nice to still have it around. I remember when the new ES's came out, you didn't even like them! Now you're really happy with it- i guess cars are weird like that, as they take time to grow on people. The same is true with me and my RX. <_<
  13. What part exactly did you remove when adding the aftermarket one? Is the security light (itself) on the piece you removed?
  14. Are they made by Lexus? Are they pre-painted or does the dealer have to have them painted? I wouldn't worry about longevity. As long as they're painted properly there shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure they're just applied with 3M tape (which is VERY strong).
  15. No prob. Just make sure to keep track of how many rotations you make on each screw, in case something goes wrong requiring you to turn them in the opp direction to correct the mistake. <_<
  16. Are you SERIOUS? Maybe he knew one of the victims of the runaway Toyota's? Still, he shouldn't have done that.
  17. I think you need to post several posts on this forum before it'll allow you to post pics... Until then just use tinypic.com to upload a pic, and copy and paste the format that looks like: [!MG]http://i56.tinypic.c*m/15xpm3b.jpg[/!MG]
  18. Yes indeed there is. Behind each headlight there should be a silvery-looking "nut" that can be turned to adjust the pitch of the headlight beam. You didn't mention what year SC430 yours is. The 01-05 might be a little different than the 06-present. This is what the 01-05's will look like. Turn that nut and the projector beam should raise. Not sure on the direction, so play around with it a bit. And i'm not sure what this thing does, but it might also connect to the projector beam. There may be 2 nuts controlling the pitch of the projector to add strength. See if these "holes" can be turned. And here's what the 06-present year Sc430's will look like. This one's a little harder to gain access to. And i'm not sure, but there may be another nut you need to turn as well. It looks like some type of gear system that connects the high beam reflector and low beam projector. See if those "holes" look like something that need to be turned.
  19. That made your check engine light come on? What error is it giving you?
  20. That site will only have records directly from Lexus and they never have any details... Check the gaps between the trunk and 1/4 panels and check the edges for paint flaking. If all the gaps look even and if you don't see the paint flaking, then most likely the repairs were made correctly and there shouldn't be anything to worry about. How's the quality of the overall paint repairs? Can you see a color difference? Was it blended well? Are there a lot of dust particles, drips, runs and orange peel?
  21. I think you might wanna ask the dealer on that one. They should be able to tell you if they can program either one. <_< My guess is yes, but it wouldn't hurt to check. They're probably gonna say no (as they themselves probably don't even know if they'll work), so it wouldn't hurt to ask a few dealers.

  24. I assume you took the cluster apart a bit, correct? I believe the back of the motors screw into the main circuit board with 4 screws. These screws need to be tightened to make contact as these screws transmit current from the circuit board to the motors. That'd be my first guess. Try taking some pics and i'll try to spot something that doesn't look right. I did needle and bulb modifications to many of the 92-96 ES clusters.
  25. All door, hood, trunk and 1/4 panels have a vin sticker on them. Check to see if they're all present- that should tell you if these parts have been replaced or just re-painted on the outside.
