  1. http://www.sportscartesting.com/Media/10/10421.mpg heres another..you got to smile though. :) they arent shown here in the uk,think they are from somewhere in Europe..
  2. So was it funny or is it my uk sense of humour :D ?
  3. to true,Lexus uk have told me that on my mk1,the radio code is useally part of the vin number of the car..
  4. http://www.members.aol.com/pwillsj/cat.mpg
  5. Im no expect but becareful that you dont loose the radio code, not sure how long if the battery disconected before the radio code would need to be entered.
  6. http://tein.com/lexus.html When i can afford them im going for the tein coil overs with the EDFC. The tein product allows you to choose what ride height you want and 16 damping settings, with the EDFC controller you can adjust the damper settings from inside the car with 3 settings that can be stored in its memory, and with EDFC you have 32 damper settings, ive looked along and hard to find after market springs and shocks for my mk ls400,the tein products not cheap £1220 in the uk without the EDFC unit included for mine... hope this gives you another option.. :)
  7. Hi i agree with LinuxFan.Theres no fuel/trip computer on my mk1 400. On the other car i have,it has a fuel/trip computer and displays a instant realtime of how much fuel it is using. No matter how much ive tryed, the computer which works the cruise, drives the car using less fuel than i can, thats on a flat bit of road with no other traffic in front.
  8. None taken :D Im glad now i bought the mk ls400...ive everything to look forward to... version 2 next :D then may be a version 3... think everyones getting the picture. I hope then that each new version gets better, its only a car at the end of the day,but WHAT A CAR :) :)
  9. Yea no probs, ...i like your icons :chairshot: ..not got these on th uk site :( I found alot of useful info from this site..think it helps theres loads of people on here with them. I Think that im hooked now :D
  10. I know its the uk versions, but this may interest you, shows all four LS 400 models http://www.lexus.co.uk/approved.php?area=ls_archive
  11. Dont quote me but i think they down rate the tyre speed for safety. In the uk if say the top speed of the car is 160mph you must have that spec tyres on them or its againest the law Even though our motorway speed limit is 70mph. :(
  12. Thanks for the link above,im finding out alot more on here than on the uk site :)
  13. The original "MK1" LS sold in the U.K. and U.S. did not have a "snow" button like on the later LS series. I still have my 94 LS U.K/Euro-spec owners manual which shows the same transmission mode buttons as the LS's sold in the U.S. I think most automatic transmission cars sold in the U.S. by 1990 were of the "lockup" type and I am fairly certain that the early LS transmission was of this type. It is always nice to hear from people the U.K. where I've had happy times touring with family (and hanging out in pubs) -- and stressful times driving on the "correct" side of the road -mainly trying to not get hit by other U.S drivers on holiday! A co-worker friend of mine in Portsmouth - not all that far from Bristol - has a Mk1 LS too - much nicer than the Mk1 I used to have. We've never made it to Bristol - mainly spent time nearby in Bath doing the tourist thing. Yes, I am familier with the Opel Senator of the 80's - a really nice car and one I liked to hire because of its roomy interior. GM considered selling it in the U.S. as a Cadillac but I don't remember that actually happening. No offense was meant with my comments on Laycock. But I did have a "Lucas, Prince of Darkness" T-shirt back in the 60's or early 70's. And I live only a couple of miles from Long Motors (http://www.victoriabritish.com/) where friends from the U.K. have wanted to visit when they are here. Jim Thanks for you coments and everyone else on here for there help. Thought id give the states forum a try,in the uk,looking on the uk forum the IS200 is by far more popular than the LS models,so its nice to see the amount of LS members on here. Sorry to hijack the post topic.. Only had my LS 400 a month, but for a 13 year old car..im very pleased with her :D
  14. http://www.lextreme.com/sc.htm :D
  15. Hi after speaking to a lexus fitter here in the uk,i was told by him that it will damage my engine if the belt breaks,he said a lexus cam belt is the only one to buy as its alot better belt than aftermarket belts and will last longer,he said a lexus belt is safe for 100,000 miles..
  16. Sorry can you explain it abit more clear what you mean..
  17. I class my mk1 uk LS400 as a 4 speed auto, like you say on mine its got L,2 and D and on the back on the selector a O/D button.I also own a car which you will not of heard of over in the states, which i believe has the same autobox, the shift up speeds are the same, but on that selector it has 1,2,3,D and is a 4 speed auto, its a Vauxhall(GM) Senator 3L 24V.What does disappoint me is on the vauxhall which is the same age as my mk1 LS400,i also have a Sport button which keeps the revs up,but more importantly a winter button, the car will pull away from stand still in 3rd which makes it more driveable in snowy or slippery conditions, which is missing on my 400. The Vauxhall also has a ecu controlled sort of gear lockup so theres no slip effect on the transmission when the car is going at 58mph or over.the car then drives like a manual transmission in a sort of direct drive giving it better mpg.... I think the later LS 400 have the winter button on them. So can anyone tell me more about the LS 400 autobox,it may also have this lockup feature, ive no manual with the car.I have read that if i register with lexus.com theres loads of info, but being in the uk i cant register on there..
  18. bluethunder2008,i think my key also is a original, from what lexus have told me...in the uk its 2 or even 3 hundred pounds here for a replacement key, what you get for your money is a new key and new rom which matches your new key which fits in the ecu in the boot(trunck :) ) behind the trim by the fuel tank.NOW what he also said was that it might not still work because there could be others problems, the ecu might need replacing :( not cheap...think water gets into them. I may be like you want it to work off the key,BUT for me the cheapest option is to forget about buying another key,ive also got a spare key. Im just going to get a alarm fitted which will also lock/unlock the alarm,i can get a new car alarm fitted here in the uk for my car for £220 all in.So for me thats the better option, doors locking/unlocking plus better more upto date alarm. that reprogram thing on that site dont work ive tryed it at least 20 times the test which ive posted on here does work, where you lock/unlock 10 times, its just ive got to find the paper work for the results.
  19. ive tryed that link as well, found it afew weeks ago and i could not get it to work,to test that your key remote works, open drivers door, make sure door light is on,unlock/lock 10 times, the locks will unlock/lock once to say there in test mode, within 1 or 2 secs of this press and hold button on key for a few seconds, the locks will then unlock/lock between 1 and 3 times, telling you the problem, not got paperwork at hand right now to tell you want it means, let me know how you get on,i will find the codes
  20. Hi,ive just put 18s on my mk1 LS400,and its very very important that you keep as near to the standard wheel offset which is 50.The lower the offset the more the wheels will stick out from the car and rub the top of the wheel arches. http://www.toyo.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction...nverter.welcome theres a link to check that your tyres and wheels, keep your speedo right..
  21. My mk1 400 fully opens in one go,its not one touch.so should it stop about 3 or 4 inchs short when closing, having then to push and hold until closed, ive no manual with the car.
  22. Hi all,my car was a uk bought mk1 LS400 1991 model.I also replaced the battery in the key,ive checked and the remote button is on,on the dash.Mine also does not work even with a new battery. The test you can do is,with the doors door open lock and unlock the car with the main switch on the door trim,MAKE SURE that the door light is on and working, thats what turns the door ecu on.So to recap, door open lock and unlock the doors about 10 times making sure the locking unlocking fully, the doors should then lock and unlock once on there own, with in 1 or 2 secs press and hold the button on your key.The doors will then lock/unlock between 1,2 or 3 times.I will have to dig up the paper work to find out which each means, done this test on my car the other week and it said the key was not the one for the car.So im in the same boat as you guys, the cheap fix for me is that the car only has its factory alarm,so for the price lexus want to fix it i will get a car alarm fitted that will lock/unlock for the same sort of price... The other post about tuning the radio in also tests if the key remote works..good luck :)
  23. my mk1 LS400 has 131000 miles on her,and lucky for me the last owner has had the cam belt changed :) saving me alot of money :D
  24. ive spoken to a lexus fitter about this pipe and hes told me it very very important to put the 10mm bolt back in or the job would need doing again soon.
  25. Hi all,ive only had my mk1 LS400 for little over a month now,so im still finding my way around the car.I was warned before buying a mk1 400 that the return emmisions pipe at the back of the engines are prone to cracking as theres a rubber section in the pipe.Mine does need replacing, the car was in very good condition other than the pipe,it must be cracked, from under the bonnet(hood :) ) it sounds as though the exhaust is blowing. Here in the uk Lexus want around £100 for the pipe and 5 hours to fit it at £89 per hour!! :( .....so can i source the pipe for cheap and has anyone changed the pipe there selfs. Its meant to be a tricky job because theres not alot of room between the engine and the bulkhead.Ive tryed to use the search option on the site incase its been posted before, but i get a error up when trying. Other than that im very pleased with the car. Sorry guys think ive found the topic on this site after fishing around abit :)
