  1. Heres a cool drift video i found well surfing the net ENJOY CLICK ME
  2. Im having the same problems with my 8in sub on my 91 LS 400 :chairshot: Lexus want £127 for a replacement,i can get a better sub for less but have to mess about to get it to fit....ive just the cover over mine at present with no sub :chairshot: Im still looking at my options,i want to keep the standard system.Ive been told i need a "Free Air" sub....ive been looking at the Kicker ones.
  3. Mine dont work, replaced batteries, ive been told its the main unit in the car... For the price Lexus want to replace it...im just going to have a alarm fitted ;) that will lock/unlock the doors and should have a better distance range.Over here i can get a alarm fitted for £100 cheaper the the Lexus replacement unit which i believe the range is only around 3 feet
  4. Sweet motor youve got there, think thats what i want next :D Motors looking good ;)
  5. The egr pipe is nearly £100 to buy here in the uk...its a right pig of a job to do...there was a split in my egr pipe but no engine fault lights on. If you open the bonnet(hood)and listen around the back of the engine.....standing at the front of the car looking at the engine the pipe is to my left(drivers side on my uk car) If you blip the throttle it will sound like the exhaust is blowing, the sounds more noticeable when the engines cold.. I hope your egr pipe not blowing :( ....really really is a pain in the !Removed! of a job to do,i done mine myself....took me a good 8 hours :chairshot: :chairshot: :chairshot: and another 4 hours to finish :chairshot: the next day. If its replaced make sure the bolt is put in the bracket of the pipe half way along it,it holds the pipe stopping it from vibrating,if the bracket bolts not put in the pipe wont last two minutes :chairshot:
  6. Well im glad im not the only one to notice this!!! Im going to have a look at the throttle sensor on mine when i get time,im also going to clean the butterfly inlet intake...hoping this might give the car more consistency. The throttle sensor might not be telling the ecu that your on full throttle.
  7. This might be of help with removing the dash click me
  8. Hi...the main problem is with the offset of the wheel....i have 18s fitted to my old series 1.....a 1991 model. It seems most alloy wheels are around 35 to 42 offset....meaning...my 91 400...the offset of the factory wheels are 50....the offset should be stamped on the wheel. On my wheels it was stamped on the outside(the side you see when its on the car)as i found out after taking the wheel off the car thinking it would be stamped on the inside :chairshot: :chairshot: :chairshot: I think you can get away with a 43 offset on a replacement aftermarket alloy. See when i bought my new alloys the firm blagged it,saying yea them wheels will fit on your car NO TROUBLE :whistles: :chairshot: I had to send them back to them, because the front wheels, well the tyres were hitting on the tops of the wheel arches :chairshot: :chairshot: (fenders :D ) (i do smile when i read what different parts of the car are called by us all :D )....so the firm had to have the wheels machined...taking 3mm thats all they say is safe to machine off the inside face of the wheel, meaning the middle hub part of the alloy... So all in all after alot of messing about the wheels now fit :) I believe the lower the offset number the more the wheels will stick out the side of the car causing rubbing. Your car has larger discs(rotors :D )than on my model so also that might be more of a problem for you.. Heres my car at the bottom of there "customers cars" web site page click the link below my car with 18s
  9. Welcome to the club texxclark. I wish i had and drove a LS 400 back when i was at school.Your a lucky guy to be in this position ;) As to the CD player,my 1991 400 has it fitted..so has it been taken out of the car or was the CD player a option on the USA cars? My car also has a few small dents and paint damage, but for the age of the car im also so happy with the condition for a car of that age.....other make cars in the uk of the same age are ready for the bin :D As long as you check the oil, water levels.....keep everything so so,the car will look after you. Ive owned my car around 6 months now,ive 134,000 miles on her....the lady owned the car 10 years before i bought it and it had one owner before her... Ive a FSH on the car,but intend to do all work myself on the car, services etc.. To date ive changed the transmission fluid(make sure if you ever top up or change fluid that you only you the dealer(lexus/toyota)fluid). Replaced the EGR pipe (exhaust gas return)which is a none problem on a car of our age.....is a pig of a job,so i hope you never have to have it replaced. It took me 8 hours one Saturday and 4 hours on the Sunday to finish the work Ive also fitted 245/40/18s alloy wheels because i felt the car understeered to much for my liking :chairshot: .....i my view the car now drives alot better....more grip, better under brake with the ABS not needing to work as hard...and more stable at speed. There i go again :whistles: .....i should of just posted"Welcome to the club" :D So much for another short reply to a post :D
  10. My series 1 has a sound also at around 17,1800 revs...to me it sound like its "pinking"....where the ignition is a little advanced.....i use normal unleaded...there is the dearer super unleaded here in the uk....im just waiting now until the low fuel light comes on.Then i will try a tank full of super unleaded to see if its the fuel as i think normal unleaded is 95 octane.I get the pinking under light throttle loading when the cars got into a high gear.
  11. They had it from the start....my series 1 has it ;)
  12. Thanks Im glad you like them. There 18s wearing 245/40(i think)/18s I got them from this site the links below, and they have kindly put a picture of me car on there ;) ....scroll down and mines at the bottom of the page. The site...click me
  13. Hi,heres a few pictures of my old LS 400. Click me and this one
  14. I like the Starsky and Hutch rear jack up look on my car :D If i take my folks and me brother out some where for the day the cars ride height looks normal,my brother and mother are on the larger side so i get them to sit in the back of the car ;) Ive never owned a car with soooo soft a spring rate. They sit in the back and the rear of the car most sink 3 or 4 inches :D
  15. Hi,mainly id say the engine and box and diff will be the main things to worry about cos of water getting into the side of where it shouldnt be,oh and fuel tank... If them problems have been dealt with then it should be ok...and electrics, motors and engine ecu.
  16. Hi welcome to the forum :) Sounds like youve got the air system on your car,i cant help you as my car doesnt, but my car sits high on the rear, ive seen a few uk cars with them sat very low on the rear why tired springs.Sorry i cant be of more help.
  17. Hi,it could be a number of things, sounds to me like the engines starved of fuel, ive just been reading another post about the fuel filter, that could be a good place to start, could be a vaccum in the fuel tank starving it from fuel, the filler fuel cap on all cars have a small breather hole to allow air to fill the tank as its being sucked from the tank, that could be blocked...could also be the throttle sensor..
  18. I my self would have liked a newer version as my car is the series 1,like you all say i have the smaller brakes, they do seem to work and stop the car well, but i think they will overheat easier if pushed hard time after time. The bottom line for me when buying was the condition and history of the car,i did look at a 93 and 94 LS400 but found they needed alot of work done to bring them up to scratch. If i was to buy another LS 400 i would go for the series 4 with vvti,But my budget would not stretch to one at present... Im very happy with my series 1,shes a 91 with 134000 miles on the clock, with only 2 owners... Just make sure that the car has good service history and that the egr pipe which runs from the exhaust back up to the inlet manifold is not blowing,if you play someone else to replace it,it will cost you a arm and a leg,ive just changed mine my self,it took me 8 or 9 hours Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday to finish it off.... The worst job ive ever done on any car ive owned..Lexus quote 5 hours labour over here to replace it,tis a pig of a job.... Best of luck with purchase and hope to read some more posts on how you get on. Chips
  19. Im glad that you liked it,on the video it does`nt look like im going that fast, but the cars a auto and its mainly in 2nd gear most of the way around the track, car does 50mph in 1st and if you listen you can here it getting into 3rd on the main straight, car does 80mph in 2nd...the car was completely standard wearing 205/65/15 wheels and tyres...and as you can see the balance of the car is very good. The hardest part is making sure the car shifts down before you turn into the corner, because the auto box is computer controlled, you select the lower gear manually but it wont change down until its revs are low enough as to not over rev the engine,so you have to time you braking and hope you slow down enough in a straight before it shifts down a cog before turning into the corner or if she down shifts mid bend you will be caught out and have oversteer when you dont want it. Ive been going up to the track since the early 90s so i know the track like the back of my hand, the trickist corner is the one after the start/finsh straight as its blind and thats the place to stand to watch others, ive caught alot of cars on video going off there. There is 4 or 5 trackdays a year open to all the public to drive around, and it is around £25 for 5 laps.Back in the 1950s it was used as the F1 track,Arton Senna raced there in the 80s before he got into F1. Im very lucky to live so close to the track its just 10 mins up the road from me. Ive not driven around the track for a couple of years, the last time in the Senator the engine blow up and i had a oil fire on the induction side of the engine,i put the fire out with a 2litre bottle of diet coke i had in the car :D ,the car would have gone up in flames by the time the marshalls got there . I still go up to all the trackdays, theres been 2 already this year, but i dont want to chance the 400 around as i dont think the brakes or suspension are up to it,it would to easy to cook the brakes as the car is so heavy, and the suspension is to soft to cope with the braking on the first tricky corner as theres a brow before it and i think the front bumper skirt would rub the road. Sorry to rattle on guys,as you can see from my long posts once you get me talking its hard for me to stop :D I was taken around the track this year by a friend of mine in his Bmw M3 csl...now that car is really quick and stops and handles like nothing else ive been in,but at £58k its way out of my league. Chips
  20. Im also a big fan of the Gran Turismo games, and have been playing them since the 1st one on PS1....i still play GT3 alot now,and its been out since 2001 if i remember rightly. There is Gran Turismo Prologue out, which ive also got....The physics game engine has been updated and so have the graphics....its also got some new tracks to learn. Its only a small game, and is really a stop gap until GT4 comes out. If your a fan of GT3 then this one is a must....if you finish the game and its saved on the memory card, when GT4 comes out,you can load GT4 up and you will get bonuses for finishing Prologue ;) 1UZ-FE,yea your right about the wheels and tyres on the early LS..my car had the standard wheels wearing 205/65/15....i found the car understeered to much for my liking in the wet or dry weather,so you would have to scandinavian flick the car to dial out the understeer, then you could get it to drift :D The car now wears 245/40s or 45s/18s,(cant remember the profile with out going out and having a look, and its *BLEEP*ing down with rain at the moment) In the wet or dry with the 18s theres now no understeer :) ;) In the dry ive not yet got it to drift cos of the amount of extra grip,But i went out last night in rain in the car,and after adjusting the steering wheel away from me,to give me abit more room for me arms to steer quicker, the car was amazing in the wet, very easy to drift because the tyres let go before the body has chance to roll... I was driving down some back roads that i know very very well and its a very quiet road. Its best to learn on a skid pan trackday which is not on the public roads and they have lots of open space and run off,it was one of the first things i did when i passed my test years ago. I dont recommend trying this drifting lark on a car of this size if youve never done it before...get some proper training and learn from the pro`s ;) Heres a couple of laps onboard my old 24V Vauxhall (GM) Senator Auto 3 litre,on a trackday a few years back up at Castle Combe Circuit near where i live in Bristol Shes drifting slightly, didnt want to drift and hang the back of the car out to much as its not the fastest way around the track.. 21. I see the link was dead.... Heres the link again just tested it and it works :D lighting test on a car...click me
  22. Looking good mate,so how does the car drive now,ive 18s on mine and im very very happy with the extra grip and stability :D
  23. Try having a look on the UK Lexus forum,i think people have fitted them on there. Good luck.
  24. I was disappointed to find on my 91 LS 400 that there was no snow button.. My old Vauxhall (GM) Senator 3 litre 24V Auto (uk car) had the snow button on it and i found it very useful, press the button when stopped and the car would pull away in 3rd gear!!!,3rd gear would take you up to 127 mph :D :D before it changed into 4th... Vauxhall had this snow button on there cars back in 1988. I found the button handy when the roads were greasy and slippery pulling out of junctions and of course in the ice and snow.... As with the !Removed! it wasnt until they saw it on other make cars, then they copied the idea :D :D Thats why its on the later LS models ;) Not sure about the snow button on the LS as i dont have it,but on the Senator when you got above about 40mph it would disengage and go back to normal up and down shifts.
