  1. I think this is pretty much normal for a car that does not have the projector beams in a fixed position. Because of the parts that make them able to move up, down, and side to side; they will be subject to extra unintentional movements on rough surfaces. My IS has the AFS system and a few times on rough surfaces, usually being a rail road track...I have experienced this. But knowing the characteristics of the system I see that as being normal operation. And as you mentioned getting "softer" tires might help absorb some of the rough terrain of the roads...but I doubt it will help much.
  2. OK ... I finally found the customizable feature list for the 1998-2002 LX470 on the Chilton website -- it is attached. It looks like only one feature on the 98-02 LX can be customized -- the "auto tilt away" steering wheel can be disabled. Disabling the "auto tilt away" should not disable the tilt/telescope adjustment button on the steering column -- at least it does not when disabling the "auto tilt away" on the 98-00 LS400 like I have. I suspect that the first year of the wildly expanded customizable settings list for the LX began with the 2003 model year since the list was substantially expanded for the LS beginning with the 2001 model year. Maybe NicLX470 can supply definitive information??? Awesome I am glad you found that. Unless there was a total loss of communication my dealer told me that it was not possible to disable auto without turning off the whole system. I might have to print this and show it to them!! And yes the dealer must do it.
  3. The attached LPS list is for the 2007 LX470 and I don't know the first model year they apply to -- probably 2001 or 2002. Any Lexus dealer should be about to tell you. Disabling the "auto tilt away" through LPS does not disable the adjustment buttons on the steering column. I think the LPS program was not available across all models until the 2005 model year. So any LX model before then I think it's all or nothing.
  4. I would attribute the corrosion to where you live. I assume they use salt a lot on the roads there in Boston. And I have heard that they will not cover those sorts of problems. But you can always try. My 98 has no corrosion on it anywhere but it never snows here in the Houston, Texas area where the truck has spent its entire life. And nothing up there rattles.
  5. The dealer did it for me for my 98 LX470. But they stated that if auto is disabled it will not work at all. Not on demand even from the buttons. Pretty much all or nothing. So I showed them where I wanted it and then they disabled it. I started to have problems with it working intermittently so I wanted it where it was most comfortable before it cratered completely. I think they wanted over $1500 for a new system.
  6. Don't forget about the SC430!! Which still has a power antenna!!! The power antenna on my LX470 still works fine. And it's 12 years old.
  7. I used safelite for my previous car which was a 2006 Nissan 350Z. They came to my house and replaced the windshield while the car was in my driveway. The guy brought extra seals and gaskets in case they old ones were too damaged to reuse. Total cost was around $350 and he was able to reuse the old rubber parts. The car was only a year old when my windshield was damaged. You can go to their website and schedule an appointment and tell them the type of car you have and such and the price that they quoted me was dead on.
  8. Today was the first time I washed my IS350 after applying the turtle wax ice car polish almost a week ago. It beads better than any other product I have used. One quick drive down the street and there was almost nothing to dry. So far this is my favorite product if I want to wax a car. And also my 12 year old LX470 looks even newer after using the product. They have my business!!
  9. I am thinking about getting the new F-sport shift knob that used to only be available for the manual tranny. Ebay has them!
  10. Wow I had to google it to see what the heck that stuff is. Seems kinda old school. I'm sure OTC products like "gumout" and other fuel and oil treatments are just as good...but without the toxic smoke. The video that shows the exhaust that is emitted for a while doesn't seem very healthy for the catalytic system or any part of the car or environment.
  11. I like it. Bought it at Costco for cheap. Have been using it for a couple of years. Get ready for the negative feedback from other members. Do a search and you'll find it discussed in other threads. I tried searching the form but I kept getting this message even when I typed "Turtle Wax Ice"........The error returned was: One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords. Ok well I'm sorry some words are not allowed? So now I just tried "turtle" and it worked. Who knew?
  12. Anyone else try the Turtle Wax Ice paste polish or any other Ice products? I saw a commercial for the Ice products a few months ago and decided to try it because waxing my car is a pain in the butt from all the dust and when some of the wax gets into cracks I can't get to them and it leaves white spots from the dry wax. After a year of washing and drying my IS350 it is starting to show the need for some wax. The synthetic paste polish is awesome!!! I waxed.....or polished my car in about an hour. There was no dust at all and it does not leave any white residue!! It looks just as great as regular turtle shell wax. I do not have to be carefull about applying it. Even on plastic parts it leaves no residue. And comes off easy! Advice to anyone who likes to wax their own car!! It also came with an applicator pad and a soft towel to remove the paste. $18 dollars at Autozone.
  13. Seems that low-moisture ethanol blends can corrode the cars' fuel delivery pipes, causing a warning light to come on and possibly eating a pinhole through the pipe wall, causing a fuel leak. That is only if the previous owner used ethanol fuel. If not there will be nothing wrong with the car but you can get the fuel line replaced anyway if the car you get has not already had the service done. It will be free of charge whether the car has warranty left or not because it is a "recall." I have had no issues with my car. My sunroof and all other parts are silent. And I am sure a Lexus mechanic would be able to tell if the engine or other parts have been previously modified. Personally if I were to look for a used car I would look close at all 4 wheels as most people cannot drive and end up scratching the wheels with the low profile tires. Drive the car and make sure the brake rotors don't feel warped. I have read on a previous form that because the rotors are made pretty close to tolerance once the rotors in an IS are warped they cannot be turned and you must replace them unless you don't care they are warped. Because they are made to be light with the least amount of metal. But I am only up to 10k miles and mine still feel great. Ask for all service records. If they cannot produce them but had the car serviced at a Lexus dealership anywhere in the U.S.; any Lexus dealership will be able to pull the records for you.
  14. Safelite replaced mine when I had my 350Z for $300 dollars. They came to my house and it was done in 30 minutes. Never saw any ripples or anything else. It was perfect.
  15. Get the IS350 if you want power and acceleration. The 06-08 have no changes except the wheels for 08 were available in gunmetal. For 09 the IS line got an updated front grill, revised tail lights, revised wheels, turn signals on the side mirrors, and Nav. version 8.1. And supposedly the steering and suspension systems were tweaked. Important options for me were the HID headlights, 18" wheels, and navigation which has a rear view camera and bluetooth. Something else that I got that I enjoy but could have lived without was the "premium package" with wood trim and heated and cooled seats.
  16. I ordered Lexus all weather floor mats for my LX470 about a year ago from Lexus of Grapevine, Texas on ebay. They were under $100.00. Don't know if they are still selling them online like that but it's worth a try.
  17. Are you worried that it's not working or that your car is not truly an AWD model? You guys sure are getting creative but the easiest way would be to turn your steering wheel all the way to the left or right and you will be able to see the CV joints if it is an AWD model. Also you should have the ugly 17" wheels that are all the same size. There is no menu screen or anything like that to show you the AWD status. The car is always running with all wheels pulling but I am sure it is bias at something like, 80% power to the rear and 20% to the front unless traction situations change and it can send power where it is needed. It's nothing that can be changed or turned off.
  18. I think they actually make the car look better. The place you bought them from painted to match?
  19. Correct. I would guess the wheel bearings need to be repacked. It cannot be CV joints because the car is rear wheel drive only.
  20. I think I know what the problem is...... My IS350 is the quietest car I have ever ridden in so I think any sort of noise not noticable in a cheaper car can be heard. My IS350 is almost a year old and at times I can hear tiny rattles here and there if the radio is off but can never tell where they come from. I never heard any creak or rattle in my Nissan 350Z but if I think of it, that car was so crude and loud i'm sure there were noises but I could never hear over the engine, exhaust or tires.
  21. They should work. Standard equipment on an IS350 comes with the 17" wheels like the ones on the AWD. But rarely are the 18" wheels not ordered for U.S. imports. My window sticker on my IS350 states under standard equipment the 17" wheels. Then under optional equipment are the 18" wheels which my car has.
  22. Oooooooooooooook http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/10...oormat-fix.html
  23. I think you mean VSC. VSC is the vehicle stability control that integrates ABS, traction control, engine control to prevent the vehicle from skidding when cornering. Also prevents oversteering or understeering & will try to save you from losing control and detects angular momentum and tries to control direction of skid. RSCA (Roll Sensing Curtain Airbag) turns off the side airbags.....so they do not deploy during heavy duty offroading intended to be used in situations involving a high degree of sideways slope.
  24. Anyone see this yet?! Toyota has told its dealers they should use a heavy-duty self-locking plastic tie — like a zip tie — to make sure owners’ floormats are kept in place while the company works on a permanent solution to the problem that sparked last week’s recall of 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The ones used for this application can hold up to 50 pounds and are attached to the driver’s seat frame. It allows the mats to be placed on the seat when they need to be moved or cleaned. Toyota is working toward adding a “component” change to the vehicles, which would likely include advanced braking software that we detailed this morning as well as mechanical changes.
  25. I had a similar problem with my '06 GS-430. Had to jump it once and it started fine for the next few days. Left me stranded once more so I bought a new battery. Problem solved... Yeah usually a "click" means the battery is dead. Try that first.
