  1. I like 93ls400walt, do not have your expertise. But, since it sounds as tho you've covered all the logical stuff, how about attacking the problem from different angle? Are there any other electrical malfuntions that have occured? Two that come to mind, which are ls400 issues, that may or may not be a contributing factor are: 1-the nefarious, notorious trunk hinge wiring harness which is a known design flaw. The shorting that occurs there will cause these symptoms, and probably others as well: balking, wild rpms, uneven idle, bucking while driving, loss of dash lights, radio shut down when applying the brakes, etc. The great thing is, it's a snap to fix. Just strip off harness and expose the bundle, re-tape, and let the whole mess hang free so that there is little/no tension on the bundle. 2- long shot. Not sure if a short here would be related- but on the theory that any short, anywhere in the system could cause weird things to happen, check this out: http://carstereohelp.com/repairDoItYoursel...usRepairVol.htm The rusted connector there may cause other issues is my thought. Post any other electrical issues you may have had. Good luck.
  2. How about it OP? What's the commute like---stop and go--- like NC thinks, or cruising like how I read the post? If you do go for the 400, make sure you have the traction control option. Rear wheel drive+quiet power+snow=trouble. The rest of the year's driving will be worth it tho. In my 92 ls, I'm getting around 18-20mpg with an 80/20 mix town and hwy on midgrade, 10% ethanol. When it's reversed, I'll typically get 25-28mpg. Plus, it'll be great on those long vacation trips. Not too shabby for all that quiet luxury. edit: Sorry Steve. When I said no offense, I meant it. It's just that I've driven both, and much prefer the 400. Plus, a beer or two while posting is probably not a good idea. ;) Will edit the above as well.
  3. Glad you're happy with it. They are precision machines. Just make sure you've got a 'Rhino side impact' rider on the insurance! :o Any Lexus techs out that way? ;)
  4. The GS300 would cost $24 MORE than the 400? I think what is meant is that the 400 would be $24 more per month in this scenario (your mileage may vary -YMMV). And the 400 most certainly gets much better mpg- closer to 25-28mpg on OTR trips. What the hell are you worried about? Do you want a car, or a precision machine? Get the damn 400! It's smooth baby. In my book, ***I have way too strong opinions, and I just need to chill***(no offense 300 guys).
  5. 1st --check fuse. It is also possible that it is grounding out somewhere. That is what it sounds like. Are there any exposed wires where the filter is located? Is the a/c set in auto mode? It will do that you know. Give more details please. When does it shut off? Check a/c diagnostic codes, and report what you find back here. TROUBLE SHOOTING SELF-DIAGNOSTICS An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) within A/C-heater control panel monitors system circuits and stores trouble codes in memory if problems are detected. All codes, except Codes 22 and 23, are stored in memory. Malfunction is current if Code 22 or 23 is displayed. To retrieve stored codes, see RETRIEVING CODES. Codes are displayed at temperature display. See Fig. 2. RETRIEVING CODES......... Here's how----- http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=3794 Thank you SK. (And if you can spell Mississauga, in my book, you are NOT an " Official LOC Bad Speller" ) ;)
  6. Excellent! Sums up my feelings exactly! F the boob tube. Especially the 'news'. The talking heads and bubble headed bleached blondes are certainly NOT reality. It's a SHOW. They will do, and have done, anything for ratings. Ratings= money. Figure it out. Stick to real news. You can find it if you look hard enough. The media conglomerates bank on the laziness of the american public..... and are richly rewarded. How many think tmz is news? Way more than you and I would think, I'll wager! Here, we watch about 5-6 hours per month. That's right. Per month. And I'm ashamed to admit it. No cable. No dish. And proud of it.
  7. Normally you would just put html tags around the url- Like this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/sil...pg?t=1215619525 [ img ]insert url here[/img ] with no spaces. In this case I got "THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed" I don't use photobucket, so not sure what they've done to the page to make it 'dynamic'. See if it works for you. Maybe it's a new security thing.
  8. I'm thinking a lighter foot would have at least as much effect. Mind you I don't 'hypermile', but I think there's a happy medium. E.G. - try to coast to lights and avoid the red, easy take offs, etc. It used to be that when I did that, there would always be some leadfooted hothead 1 foot from my rear bumper. With gas at 4.25 I see lots more people driving gently, and much less of that. They are now doing it too. Sounds you've got most bases covered on the hardware. I'd also vac out / change the air filter every couple thousand. Have an emissions test done. That will tell you a lot.
  9. Welcome lu1de! Glad to hear from you. Well, with news like this in your country, I certainly don't blame you for your stance: "Estonia Taxes Farmers for Cow Farts 05/13/08 · 12:59 pm By Peter Robbins Farmers in Estonia received their first "Cow !Removed!" tax demand on Monday. Following the issues of global warming, Estonia cited that a single cow produces 350 L of methane gas and 1500 L of carbon dioxide a day from flatulence and burping. http://www.capecodtoday.com/blogs/index.ph...w-farts?blog=94 Ah, will the madness never end? AGW is only THE biggest money grubbing scam in human history. Kind of a synopsis of our world today. Yup. Turn it off. Be happy. Life is short. Nothing will actually change even if you DO watch it.
  10. The ls has a bit of a valve tick on startup from what I've heard. Search 'valve adjust' or some version of that term. I believe it will yield some results altho it may not be needed if you can do a simple fix first. If you hear tapping as opposed to a 'ticking' AFTER warm up, then I'd look into having them adjusted. Two suggestions. Immediately switch to the recommended oil- 5w30. Yes, I know it's summer, but if average temps are below, I think it's 100f, then go 5w. It is a thinner oil and will lube the top end quicker on startup. If it sounds a bit worse after the 5w, it may very well be a valve adjustment. Two- start changing the oil at 3K to 4K MAX. Do that for a couple of changes, and see if it helps. You could even try a synth blend. These engines are virtually bullet proof if taken care of. No reason not to go to 500k or more with care. Here is a quick link if you're a DIY'er (for 1uzfe ) : http://www.lextreme.com/valve_clearance.html
  11. This has been bothering me awhile. When you guys say 'regular', you mean mid-grade right? It's been about 1000 years since I last used 'regular', and back then, they used to make the gas pump nozzles one size for 87, and 93oct a different size so you couldn't mix them up. Are they the same size now? I use mid grade all the time without a hitch and get about 18-20 in 80% in town/20% highway. (10% ethanol) edit: Also--- wouldn't you get some pre-detonation if you are actually using 87oct?
  12. News stopped being News about 20 years ago. It is now a SHOW, with some news tidbits thrown in so that it can still be called 'news'. Notice also that there are no longer any reporters. That's 'cause a reporter used to report the news as it happened. They are now 'journalists'. As in " I think I'll write something in my journal today". Or my diary. Same thing. It's now whatever spin the 'journalist' and editor want to put on it. If you've ever been close to a 'story' reported on the 'news', you know that what is broadcast bears little resemblance to what actually happened. It's a show. Yeah, I flip too. Thank God for remotes.
  13. Here is the complete quote: "ac has been completed, got my compressor from ebay for 265 dollars from klk parts in california, thats 265 with pag oil, reciever drier, compressor and shipping and handling....my ac is 38 degrees f " Looks like klk not kik to me. Go on ebay. Good luck edit: here ya go http://stores.ebay.com/KLK-Parts
  14. Report: 32% Of Prayers Deflected Off Passing Satellites March 19, 2008 | Issue 44•12 HOUSTON—According to an official NASA report released Saturday, nearly 32 percent of all prayers exiting Earth are deflected off satellites orbiting the planet—ultimately preventing the discharged requests for divine intervention from ever making it to the Gates of Heaven. "After impact with the satellite, these diverted prayers typically plummet back into the atmosphere, where they either burn up or eventually land, unanswered, in a body of water," the report read in part. "Of the remaining prayers, research confirms 64 percent fail to make it past the stratosphere because they aren't prayed hard enough, 94 percent of those with enough momentum are swallowed by a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, and 43 percent are eaten by birds." The report concluded that, of the 170 billion prayers issued last month, one made it to God, whose reply was intercepted by a hurricane and incorrectly delivered to a Nigerian man who reportedly did not know what to do with his brand-new Bowflex machine.
  15. One of mine: New Solar System Discovered Four Feet From Earth September 25, 1996 | Issue 30•07 PALO ALTO, CA—In what is being hailed as the most significant find in the field of planetary astronomy in decades, astronomers at the Palo Alto Observatory on Monday identified a new, previously unknown solar system approximately four feet from the Earth's surface. The system, located directly over nearby Van Nuys, is described as "a stable, elliptical binary system with at least four major planets, including two gas giants, an asteroid belt and several moons, approximately 17 million billion miles in diameter and some four feet off the ground." Though the global scientific community is still reeling from the magnitude of the Palo Alto team's research, efforts are underway to analyze the new planetary system using telescopic spectrographic analysis, as well as shovels, in gathering data from distances of up to 48.5 inches. http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30374
  16. Dozens of eyewitness reports indicated that former vice president Al Gore deliberately attempted to raise the earth's temperature in order to boost box office receipts for An Inconvenient Truth, his documentary film about global warming that was released in May. DESPERATE MEASURES Former vice president Al Gore takes a flamethrower to the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica to boost weekend ticket sales for An Inconvenient Truth. "We have accounts from concerned citizens that Mr. Gore purchased a Cadillac Escalade SUV several months before [his film] opened in theaters," said Kimberly Blume, spokeswoman for the California-based environmental group Friends Of The Earth. "Not only did Mr. Gore use his new gas-guzzler to make short trips to the grocery store, he also left the vehicle running 24 hours a day in the driveway of his Tennessee home with the air-conditioning on full-blast." In the weeks following the film's release, witnesses reported additional sightings of Gore engaging in activities such as discharging can after can of 1980s-era, CFC-laden aerosol into the air, and single-handedly clear-cutting over 6,000 acres of Amazon rain forest. Gore is also rumored to have set a four-acre tire fire outside Akron, OH, and ordered his Secret Service detail to shoot on sight anyone who attempts to put it out. "It's sad to see a man we thought was a passionate defender of the environment despoiling it for his own monetary gain," Blume said. Blume said that she and many environmentalists had momentarily expressed relief in late November when Gore appeared to cease his months-long practice of dismantling old refrigerators in order to release ozone-destroying freon into the atmosphere. Blume soon learned, however, that Gore had resumed the activity in Antarctica, where the earth's ozone layer is most fragile. Environmental groups have called for the federal government to step in and put a stop to Gore's actions, but officials say they do not have the power to stop him. "There is no legal recourse anyone can take against the former vice president," Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen L. Johnson said. "Mr. Gore is well within the emissions standards set by the current administration." By year's end, Gore failed to slow his assault on the planet's delicately balanced climate systems. Satellite surveillance revealed what many believe to be a snowshoed Gore jumping up and down on an ice shelf in Greenland, chainsawing glaciers in the Alaskan wild, and urinating in the Gulf Stream waters off the coast of Newfoundland. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/al_go...arming_globe_to And: "Gore Wins Oscar, Nobel Peace Prize For Slide-Show" http://www.theonion.com/content/news/gore_...bel_peace_prize God, I love the Onion :D If you want the truth, just google " The Great Global Warming Swindle .wmv" (which was removed from googlevideo, and iarchives, and most other places (censorship?). It can still be downloaded at a few places. Rainy ones mostly. ;)
