  1. Sometimes, old invalid registry entries (that point to uninstalled programs that had spyware) are detected. The registry maintains an entry on EVERYTHING you've ever installed. I use regclean fromM$. MS included it with old 9X o.s. I use it on XP without a hitch. Try the above and let us know.... Also type in google " free system scan". I think symantec has one for free that does it over the web. The advantage is that you're using an updated database. Takes a long time tho.
  2. In researching the problem, it looks like ac code 13 which is " Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit ". Anyone one have any experience with replacing this part? What would cause it to fail? I happen to to have a bad fan blower resistor which controls low and med speeds on the blower, but I doubt the two are connected.
  3. Try searching 'heater control valve '. It is located high on passenger side on the fire wall with a heater hose on one side and a cable that runs through the firewall. Pull the cable toward the firewall all the way to shut valve completely. Or as wwest suggests, slip the cable off, and tie valve down. Re-connect the cable in the winter so the valve will open allowing heat into the cabin.   4. Just today (98* temps) I noticed the the light inside the ac button was blinking on and off randomly. My assumption is that the compressor is kicking OFF in order to save itself from a low freon condition which I know is the case (I know it's low on freon). Does this sound correct? It does cool, but not at full capacity. I'm guessing vent temps have now climbed to about 55* or so. I really want to avoid taking it in for a recharge, as I have the ability to do it myself. So, ac button light blinking on and off randomly means what? Save mode?

  7. That's what I call a clue. The only thing puzzling me tho, is that your temp gauge was normal. Why did you take it in for the water pump? Was the timing belt changed at the same time? If we take temp gauge out of the equation, I'd say your coolant is leaking onto an exhaust pipe/ cat. Go out and look at the level. You could also warm it up, and let it idle in the drive w/ hood open, and eyeball where the 'steam' is coming from.

You can take it to autozone or advance auto parts as well, if their obd reader will work on an obd1 system. Call them 1st to see if they'll do it. Not all will.
  10. I guess the logical step would be to pull engine codes. You can take it to most big box auto stores and they'll do it free. Or, if you must, take it to lexus. But I'd start with the guy who did your pump.
  11. J, I'm not familiar with the setup of the wire runs in the trunk of a 2nd gen. But I will describe the 1st gen. The harness runs inside a J channel in the hinge loop. It is accessed by popping off a plastic bracket on the hinge. The whole mess moves with every movement of the hinge. Bad design there. It is certainly easy enough to check. If yours looks like that description, if it is not shorting now, it may possibly do so in the future. Mine started after 13 years of service. Of course if you're in and out of the trunk every day, well, who knows? Mine started, if I remember, when it was rainy. It hit all of a sudden, and was far more pronounced than what you describe. Some signs prior to the bucking, hesitation, and wild RPMs were, when braking the radio would drop out. Then the dash lights. Then the headlights. Then they would come back on, be fine for awhile, then randomly start again. It seemed the battery was faulty, or the altenator. Very weird behavior, and a lot of seemingly unconnected problems. There were other symtoms as well which I've posted elsewhere. All traced back to that stupid wire harness. It seems that your prob is probably something other than this, or it could be the very beginning, early stages of it. It would take about ten minutes or so to strip it down to the individual wires for a visual inspection. Any other elec. problems? Good luck

But hasn't the bread and butter of speculators pretty much been " There is new unrest in the region as _______ attacked _______ today sparking fears of an unstable supply, or reduced production capabilty in the months to come"... blah blah blah. It seems that 1 or 2 'news' stories like that, and oops, there go prices again. The above story, is invariably followed by " Speculators became nervous and drove the price of light sweet crude today to an all time high"...blah, blah, blah. That is what I used to see every day before I got smart, and turned it off in disgust. I cannot say what the fundamental cost/bbl is, but it is hard to believe that it can double in 1 year or so. It seems as tho we're plateauing at ever higher, more unfounded levels with each new "news" story in the mid east. There seems to no longer be a connection between production cost, markup, and retail cost anymore. In 2003 oil traded in the $25-30/bbl. range. In 6 years it has quintupled? 500% ? And what about all of the other oil producing nations? Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela, and Russia (isn't Russia one of the largest?) Pretty stable by comparison if you ask me. So commodity prices seem no longer driven by supply and demand. They are now "news" driven. But yet the bulk of oil produced is not produced in the mid east, and we get only a small portion of our imports from them. (Anyone have stats?). There seems to be a dis-connect somewhere.
  13. An engine of the caliber and refinement of the 1ufe does not just shut down. There is an electrical problem somewhere. A well known design flaw has been noted--- It is the" trunk hinge wiring harness " issue. I know it well, as I was a, let's say, victim of same. Search that term. It is an easy fix and it will cost you nothing to repair, if indeed that is the problem. "This may seem arbitrary, but I may have an answer for you. This same type of problem happened to me about a year ago. This smooth world class car started balking, cutting out, lurching, and seemed ready for the junk yard. It happened all of a sudden. No warning. I thought the engine was toast. Now it's smooth as silk w/ 255,000 miles on it. Open the trunk. On the left side you will see a wire harness on the left hinge. After repeated openings and closings the wires inside that harness become fatigued and frayed. Then they start shorting out. Then your ECU starts getting bad input. Then your air/ fuel ratio goes to hell, then you have intermittant spark. Then sputtering, stalling, and everything you describe. This is a design flaw and lexus knows it. In short ( ;) ), if this describes your problem, then strip down the harness, untwist all the wires, re-connect, then re-tape with duct tape. Make sure to leave off the bracket that ensures tension on the harness. Just let it swing free and loose. In my case, problem solved, and no spending thousands of dollars in diagnostics, parts, and tech snafus. I am 95% sure this is the answer. Best of all, it's free! Good luck...
