  1. Please retreive and post some error codes. Search is your friend ;)
  2. Don't look at me with that tone of voice. Good doggy.
  3. No! One of the things I love about my ls is that you cannot really tell when the ac is on. From an acceleration standpoint, or noise (well a little). Every car I've owned up to the ls400 would pause, shudder, bog down, or hesitate on A/C. The ls should not. You may be able to hear the comp. but not much. Maybe at idle w/ the window down. Sounds like the re-built wasn't rebuilt too well. I'd check: 1-Amperage draw- could be a bad connection/ ground issue -check if it is within spec. 2-Oil charge- make sure the comp is not working overtime-- low oil will burn it out quickly. The whining on acceleration sounds like a low / no oil issue. Takes a lot of oil. Ask reman how much. Comp's need to come loaded with oil (the right oil for your refrigerent --r12-mineral oil-- 134- (pag or ester?). They are NOT compatible. Make sure comp was charged w/ oil when installed. May need more. 3- make sure ac low side pressure is somewhere in the 25-35psig range at idle after a couple minutes. This changes upon ambient outside temp. Add a refrigerent charge if low. What refrigerant are you using? Above is for r-12. Google: r12 a/c pt chart. Idle should auto bump up, upon engaging a/c. Check for leaks. Don't assume a new system does not leak. Do it before warranty runs out. Sounds like another bad a/c job done by amateurs. Save that compressor!
  4. Thank God for LOC. The dealer had it's way with me one too many times, same for the indies which say they know what they're doing but --- shock!--- don't. I came here in self defense mode. Glad I did. I've already saved a bunch of $$$, and many hours of lexus runaround time. The lexus badge doesn't always mean you have unlimited funds, and/ or time to !Removed! around with the dealership cult/ groupies/ followers, or devoted employees. As Einstien once proved; [Time={money squared}X frustration cubed] ..... Or something like that. Uh, yeah, that's what I meant.... The guys here are a great group, and a huge braintrust. Cheers!
  5. Found it here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=manuals It is actually $10/24 hrs. Not bad if you have cable.
  6. For such a detailed and specific problem as yours, you may have to wait a bit before someone who has had that issue comes along. I've noticed guys here don't like to shoot from the hip (I need to watch that ;) ) so you may not get a response til someone knows for sure. As far as the manual is concerned, I remember scanning a post somewhere here that mentioned there was a website that you had to join, then it would allow you to download PDF manuals, I believe. I think you have only one day to do it as a trial. Do a search for 'manuals' and you may hit it. Exploded views were mention as well, I think. Good luck.
  7. on startup white smoke entire time White smoke? At start up? And the entire time you're driving? Unless things have changed, or you can give more details, I'll stick w/ my original assessment; blown head gasket and/or water jacket leaking coolant into combustion chamber. What does the oil look like? Could an angry girlfriend have poured her drink into the tank? Sure. It's possible. Either way- I'd stay away.
  8. That sounds dangerously close to a personal flame, and not really gemaine to the topic. What was the pupose of even bothering to post that comment? Not what we're all here for. By the way, welcome to the forum JAYBMONEY. Sounds like a blown head gasket to me. Or, in any event, coolant leaking into the combustion chamber. I'd stay away, unless they are giving it to you as a project car. Good luck.
  9. Had the entire a/c system replaced 3 years ago, but it has a slow leak in/ near the evap, as near as I can figure. The shop was unwilling to repair, as it held a charge most of the summer, and by the time I discovered it they said "out of warranty". Nice. Google to the rescue. Read up on it, and I see conflicting advice everywhere. It is a Hydrocarbon (HC) blend (read propane blend) that is compatible -supposedly- with all refrigerant oils. R-22, 12, 134 etc and is epa neutral, I think. No epa license required to purchase or install. Higher flash point than 134a. I see a lot of fluff on their website. The question is, has anyone here had experience with it, and does it work as advertised. Will use it in my home system as well if it works as stated. I think dura-cool and some others are HC blends as well, so if you've used those R12, R-22 replacements please let us all know how it went.
  10. Smokes when? On startup? Going down the road? What color? How long does it last?
  11. The dealership forced me to drive a 2003 rx300 4 years ago when I had it in for the electrical issue. I thought I was driving a VW beetle. Harsh ride and noisey. My, how times have changed. Gimme that old sweet ls400. Still gettin around 23-24 city/hwy. Love it.
  12. 1992 ls 400. Owned it 11 years now. Hit a multipoint buck at 65 MPH (actually it hit my left front 1/4 panel) about 7 years ago. $8600 worth of damage. Drove it into the ins. co. 35 miles away like nothing had happened. This old tank is still hauling a$$. Top speed for about 1 mile: 145. Smooth, baby.... Still looks good. 255,500.
  13. Did a search but everything I saw had to do with replacing the bulb. Can I short something and cause the bulb to come on in order to test if it's working? Is there a combination of cluster buttons to hit to arm it? I've had trac light problems in the past and am researching that now, which led to this question.
  14. Dc, That 2nd one reminds me of Rendevous with Rama, or some such. Maybe it was Arthur C Clarke? About the world sized space ship that was self sustaining. It just floated thru space with whole civilizations living on it. Rivers mountains, clouds weather, all that crap, inside a ship. I can't believe I remembered that. Back at ya:
  15. Gotcha. Spam. Or agenda. Same. Questions like:" Do you still beat your wife?" Stilted and pre-determined survey questions designed to point to a certain outcome no matter how you answer. Honest survey, or a complete farce? Seems our institutions of higher learning get their grant dollars as long as they spew the proscribed agenda. AGW still does not even rise to the level of a proper scientific theory. It is still (after 20+ years and Billions of your tax dollars wasted) only a flimsy hypothesis. Those talking heads you see on the telly acting as tho it is a fact, are simply reading copy written for them by non-scientists with an Agenda. Nonsense. No clicky for me. I invite our 'lil brainwashed friend w/ an agenda to return here and answer a few very basic questions regarding AGW.
  16. Hey J, When you say "Hmm.. Interesting survey" what exactly do you mean? I won't clicky on the link until she comes back and answers the very straightforward question posed by Randy "What is the essence of your thesis statement?" Is it spam redirect?
  17. Yeah, NC that's what I thought when I first saw one. A little digging turned up the fact that they do quite well in the Gov crash tests. Built in reinforced roll cage, yada, yada. I would consider one if I lived downtown where top speeds reach about 35 on a quiet day. Parking would be a breeze. Not built for the road with all the Excursions, 'Burbans, f250's and yahoos in my opinion. $20,000 for only half of a car seems a bit ridiculous as well. Even if it is made by Daimler.
  18. "Pop" or "clunk" when driving on rough roads? If it's more of a "clunk" then I would suspect lower control arm bushings. But it could be strut rod bushings as Nc says. I'm not a mechanic, but this might help isolate the problem. Jack up the side where the noise is-- getting the tire a couple inches off the ground. Grab the tire and push/pull on it from side to side. Then repeat on the top and bottom. If there is play side to side, then it may be the L.C.A. bushing. Up and down, not sure. But talk to a tech at any good shop and he'll tell you the up/down issue. Bushings no doubt. If it is just bushings, I would not think it's a safety issue, just an annoyance issue. Call a good shop. Good luck
  19. I appreciate the quote... but was there anything else ?
  20. See-- comedic value right there! And if the fan belt breaks, you can use a rubber band! Here's one NASA is readying for launch to the International Space Station. :)
