  1. You need to remove the vent above the controls to acess 2 nuts and a peice below the radio to acess 2 more nuts. Then pull out the radio and hvac and disassembly the carriage. the open up the front of the hvac control and replace the bulbs .
  2. why did he say you need a new engine. Did they explain what was wrong ?
  3. Lexus doesn;t reccomend any the only thing to watch is the installer ,use a good one and pay for there experiance in luxury cars. Clifford ,viper, code alarm are all good ones.
  4. if you hold down the gas pedal when starting does it start?
  5. more than likely the egr is plugged or stuck but without a ecu code the options are endless
  6. you might be running rich from too much gas and not enough air. check to make sure there are no rips in the intake pipe or the maf being plugged makeing the engine think it is not getting as much air as it is.
  7. It is a common problem with the ES and RXand Camry, they all share the same engine and the idle control pin gets stuck and need to be either replaced or cleand because it is getting stuck with carbon. If it happens again and you need to drive the car. Eitehr warm it up by holding the gas pedal down. Or unplug a hose located just above the throlttle body which will cause a slow increase in rpm's Basically the pin is not moving back into cold start position and causeing the motor to stave for air causing it to be too rich and die. Unpluggint eh vacum hose cause the pin to speed up the pressue andmove back to normal . It usually takes atleast 2 hours depending on how bad the pin is stuck ,to get back to cold position.
  8. Lower octane would make it easier to start. Does the car start if you press the gas pedal a bit, if it does will it cut off if you let go? Does the car turn over when you turn the key? Does it sound like it is tryign to start at all or jus the starter is turning?
  9. you need a new frequency chip which is only sold with a pair of matching keys. about $500 total for labour and parts Althought it is only one cover to remove and replace in the brain located in the left side of the trunk. you can't buy one key some mentioned ebing able to program another matching fcc code to the existing. never tried and don't know.
  10. Yup i have the camry but toyota uses the same setups ,so it is located on the firewall more on the right side or passenger side.
  11. ahhh, no problem neil i got a new pump already but still not my job got another meeting tommorow so i will seee how it goes. The car now has tranny problems but still runs and makes you say ohhh what is that as i now have a 80% finished front lip
  12. Double galvanized steel and other inhibitors before assembly plus white gloves during assembly to keep from small scratches rusting barre metal in spots. I have not seen Lexus in Canada rust much at all if any . Only ones that where not taken care of. You can rust proof it once every 3 years for extra security but it isn;t needed as much is the car is stored outside and washed regularly especially the underside in the winter getting a power washer into all the tight spots in there. The only rust i have found was my rear rebar ,which is the metal support behind the rear bumper it was rusty as hell once .Mainly becuase i never stuck a hose in there to wash it out much at all and it gets alot of heat from the exhaust to activate the corrosion from salt.
  13. Well you do have a heavy vehicle. 9 is not bad at least it works properly.
  14. I meant to say the manifold. There is a trick to remove the starter by using a few very long extensions to get way in the back to reach the 2 bolts .It can been seen from the front with a ilght.I can;t remember if you had to move anything out of the way first to look down the underneath of the manifold. Then you slide it out the back of the engine and undo wiring. A lexus tech at one of our local meets told me how to do it.
  15. The air bag reset should be the same over all years and models. It is a dificult procedure as you need to ground and power 2 seperate wires liek 5 times in sequence and then hold one down and wacth the cluster for flashes while still holding the wires connected inside the engin e bay. Sound difficult,it is i tried with a shop manual and it took ages to adjust the mirror just right to see from the engine area. A good scan tool not just the dealer can reset it easily.
  16. There is an obvious blockage or he missed a hose for it as it had to be removed to get to the starter.Unless he is experianced enough with a lexus V8 enough to know the trick of removing the starter without removing the head.
  17. there is an actuator on the firewall that has a small wire rod connecting to a black square valve it controls the flow of coolant throught e heater core. If it doesn;t open then you get now hot air. check to see if it is working
  18. There are egr problems that usually happen as many stick in po402 which is exessive egr flow. Never seen one with insufficent flow. Did the vacum hose work properly
  19. Yha register and get a free one. But it is somewhat usueless as the 95-96 have zero changes they are identical twins in every way. I use 91 in my car and nothing else, but i sort of liek over kill . I find the car to run much better but it could just be me.
  20. nothing else is compatible. i have a changer for sale if interested
  21. under the front exhaust manifold at the front of the engine.
