i don't know why but i always seem to disagree with you army,sorry To check for sludge their is going to be a tear down you will never get a new engine as even crate engines are not new they are just rebuilds wether they come from japan or the USA. Only new cars get new engines or unless it is reassembled peice by peice by a engine builder and all the parts ordered from toyota where you will get new parts . Check the engine mounts they may not need changing that is all that is needed to look at that would save tiem or money now barely The easiest thing is to always use synthetic oil and not skip oil changes. second *army* ,stop making assumptions with no information to make you thought credable How would you know who contracts out rebulds or not. First the information has never been given to us by the owner who is looking after it, it could be lexus paying the dealer to do a tear down and replace what is needed ,wether it is doen by them in house or down the street at uncle toms. lexus providing the engine and paying the dealer to do the labour come on now stop guessing

So a new battery is in the engine bay now? What kind? none of the lights int or ext turn on? hopefully you don;t have mice who ate through the wires.

Personally which year E36 are you looking at? as well as SC 2 or 4 door? The SC is heavier feeling but 240 hp isnt that great a number although it handles nicely ,most have been beat up or high p0riced for collectors by now. I drove a 94 E36m3 for a minute i had fun but it doens;t compare to anything more modern funny enough it felt like a well balanced civic( their are very few of those around also)

yes an emisson test will tell you for sure if the cat is bad getting a laser temp gauge will show the needed heat before and after the cat to know if it is working. You may be running to lean for it to work properly or buring oil or the cat has disintergrated which is rare for a lexus

moved to the general maintance section where their is tons of threads there. premium gas for premium cars i doubt you voltage problem is gas related likely alternator or wires being a problem

I would get a volt meter and monitor it while driving as most lexus heaters are working but are underpowered by the alternator mine was until i changed the battery cables and now i can actually feel them work great

Ok let me see if it got this straight the click is now a clunk? it is more left than right turns same in reverse? replaced one cv shaft already? how far do you have to turn the wheel to make the noise? how fast or slow does it start and stop It is in a direct frequnecy to the speed of the wheel? Did you ever look for a nail in the tire?

check the intake for rips as well as you may have a carbon build up issue

did you ever check to see if the cat was bad? The cel comes on for a sensor sending back an error, it can mean the cat is not working properly or the sensor. The upper ones are the same the one after the cat is different

The sotck 1mz-fe maf is quite good at handling the increase of air flow as it is not a compressed amount of air just a reduction of vacume loss of power, an exhuast definatly helps but for starters it is a very good mod

If the pedal does not raise back up you have a brake booster problem. Get it towed to lexus for warr work
