  1. chris, it was most likely a little oil that spilled when the filter was removed. This will spill directly on the inside of the front exhaust manifold and will take a little bit to burn off. The most annoying thing about the 1MZFE is the oil filter location, I think they designed it to leak and dribble all over the place when replaced. steviej
  2. Army, it does not do it automatically. You are hitting the wrong reply button. If you hit the "Reply button directly below the post box it will set you up with the quote in your reply. If you hit the Add Reply box a little further down, then you can post without having anyone quoted in your post. steviej
  3. r3dlin3, that is a total myth. you can switch back and forth as many times as you would like. As a matter of fact, Mobil 1 has even stated that on their website as well. steviej
  4. Lexusfreak, your are wasting your breathe. Monarch is well aware of mburn's opinion, test results and standpoint. monarch on LOC is the same person as saber on CL. The have already had a recent go round on CL. I suggest that this conversation be continued over there because it has been thrashed enough on this site and the majority or us are tired of it and the same old rants. It grows tired once again. Every car forum and motorcycle forum has this same debation going on. It is the never ending story. The bottom line is that people will use whatever oil they feel comfortrable with for whatever change interval they feel comfortable with for whatever reasons they have. People are free to do as they choose. steviej
  5. actually it was a juiced GX470. :whistles: :D just kidding!!! steviej

  7. first, STOP YELLING. Please don't type in all caps, it is considered rude on this site. second, did it say #6 cylinder or injector? It may have been the spark plug and not the fuel injector. Also while the car is running, spray the wire with a mist of water, if the engine starts to bog or missfire, it may be the wire and not the plug. steviej
  8. Frank, you are getting those messages because your post count is less than 20. The PM (private message) function and posting in the Buy & Sell forum are off limits until your post count >20. Simple rule to help keep people from spamming our membership with floods of sale items. This is stated in the header of the Buy & Sell Forum. Since you are a moderator on other forums, then you understand, right? I have removed the content of your previous post and sent it to admin for you. steviej ES/IS Forum Moderator
  9. thanks for the heads up jane. Are you dealing with Lexus of Norwood or Watertown? just curious. I had heard that a lot of the upgrade discs have errors and that Lexus is working on an improved upgrade. Don't know the current status or that, though. steviej
  10. LexuSY, you asked for opinions and you gonna get lots of them. 1. the air filter is a piece of cake. $12 part and will take less than 5 minutes to put it in. I can even talk you through it over the phone. 2. The bulb is easy too, it's just getting to it that is a little pain. Search, as there are several threads and I remember one with pictures. 3. How much oil are you leaking. Better question is how much oil do you have to add between oil changes or ever 5000 miles? You could try a heavier oil, (10w-30) if you are running a 5w-30. Just remember, leaks eventually get bigger. 4. Lastly, your engine is a non-interference engine. If the timing belt breaks while you are driving, the engine just dies and there is very minimal damage if any at all to the internal workings of the engine. You could just go until it breaks. I would not advise this but it does not have to be done today. The flip side to that is imagine where you could be if and when it breaks. You could be in your driveway or 50 miles up a deserted highway at 3 AM. Most dealerships prep you for the TB cause it is usually done around 90k miles. It is a big expence depending on how far you go. Meaning do you replace just the TB or while in there do the water pump, accessory belts, pulleys, cam and crank seals, tensioners, etc. Either way, shop around for this service. Look into Toyota dealerships as well as respected independent shops, prices will vary dramatically. Remember, cheapest is not always best and neither is the most expensive. steviej
  11. exactly. very common with toyota and lexus. The fluid is well above MIN, but low enough to trip the sensor. Any DOT III fluid is acceptable and use only new. steviej
  12. Also look into www.lextech.org sj
  13. there has to be a drain on your battery somewhere. a volt meter needs to be hooked up to your battery in serial. then each fuse is removed to isolate which circuit is causing a drain. The current will go up when the culprit circuit fuse is removed. steviej
  14. visit you local window tinting specialist. They have many tints to choose from. I am partial to the one that is mirrored from the door up to about half way the window and then fades into a dark black. steviej
  15. I will move this to the Audio/Video forum, maybe you will get a better responce there. steviej
  16. $1300 sounds more like the 90k service price which includes the total TB replacement. steviej
  17. RADIATION
  18. you would think the dealer would have done the 45k in an attempt to help the sale of the vehicle. If they did, this information should be in their service computer. A phone call to the service manager may yield results of what service was done prior to your purchase. your question is a loaded one in that you don't state how long it took to acquire the 1100 miles since purchase. If it has been 11 months (by my calculations) and the 45 service was not done, you may want to spring for it. The 45 is basically oil & filter, tranny fluid drain and fill, rotate tires, new wiper blades, new air filter, a list of "checks". Probably run you about $300 at a lexus dealership. If anything, the oil & filter needs to be changed if you haven't done it since purchase. Those should be changed at least every 6 months if you barely use the car. steviej
  19. try www.newlexusparts.com and look under collision, not mechanical. steviej
  20. you are absolutely right as to the seals I was referring to. And no disrespect taken. I'm glad Mike's question was answered in a timely manner. steviej
