  1. www.car-parts.com this is an online directory of parts by salvage yards. steviej
  2. I will compare this saturday at my dealership and I can get it for about 125. SW, you are absolutely right, I don't want to go through the taillight fiasco again. steviej
  3. you could try disconnecting the battery to lose all the presets and start from scratch. or wait until you have the manual in hand. steviej
  4. what year is your IS? 2001 and 2002 the fog light was a 9006 bulb. 2003-2005 the fog light bulb is an H3-55w bulb. I think if you look closely at your fog light, or pull your current bulb, you will find that the glass in the lamp is actually yellow and not the bulb. steviej
  5. I wish you safe return. Thank you for your service here and over seas. Until the next time you post, God bless! steviej
  6. I was thinking of swapping out the grille on my 02 ES with grille from an 05 ES. anyone know if this is a direct bolt in replacement. It looks like it is. steivej
  7. This one deserves a picture!!! totally awesome steviej
  8. overdrive creates a final drive ratio of <1:1, meaning the engine has to make less than one revolution in order to make the drive wheels rotate 1 full time. This creates a condition where less gas is used to go a further distance. The autobox will usually drop into OD (the last available gear) when the car is going about 45 mph or more and there is no load situation present (acceleration, going uphill, etc). Many vehicles have an OD cancellation button. This allows the operator to block the ability or the autobox to utilize this final gear. This is prefered if you are towing anything, go up and down alot of hills, accending a large incline (ie. mountain pass), and when you are in frequent stop and go traffic. If the vehicle has an autogate shifter (meaning shifting is not a press the button and pull the selector in a straight line kinda shift) then eliminating OD is achieved by putting the shift lever in the highest number possible before the D position. steviej
  9. It is not happening to mine and it should be covered under the corrosion warranty. Only one way to find out.....ask them. Hopefully the dealer won't try to say something spilled in that area (aka, brake fluid or some other paint stripping liquid). steviej
  10. Splinter, totally off thread but what the heck. I love Halifax. I do alot of business with a company called Precision Biologics. Anyway, I remember some pictures my friends sent me of snow up to the street signs. Kinda reminded me of home. steviej
  11. a professional shop will attach a hose to each brake bleeder and attach a jug that hold a gallon of fluid to the brake reservoir and then just flush away. you could go the cheap route and evacuate the reservoir with a turkey baster (available in the kitchen item isle at your local supermarket), fill the reservoir with new and then just bleed the heck out of the brakes being sure to fill the reservoir back up again with new fluid. Basically you are just running new stuff through the reservoir, master cylinder, accuator module, lines, and calipers. It takes a long time but can be done this way. Just remember, the worst thing to have in the brake system is air bubbles. steviej PS, don't return the turkey baster to the kitchen drawer when you are done. It will leave a bitter taste in the gravy.
  12. good, Derrick knows his stuff and is a friend of mine. personally, I think 20s on a pre-2002 ES will make it look like a mud-buggy or some kind of 4WD vehicle. Idefinately would not go with more than an 18 on the pre-2002 and 19 on a post-2002. Here is mine on 18s Keep in mind the damage issue. 20 inch rims will leave you little sidewall for the tires that you will be able to fit without flaring the fender. This means potholes and big iron road covers become you worst enemy and nightmare. Don't spend a lot of money for something that will be easily damaged. Go with an 18, drop the car an inch and be careful when driving on them. Lastly, I like the 5 spoke SEVAS the best of what you have showed. steviej
  13. If it works like most digitally displayed pushbutton radios then: find the station you like, then push the 1-5 button that you want preprogrammed for this station. Push and hold the button in until you here a beep or it flashes. There may be two or three sets of preprogramables for you FM stations. Press the FM button a couple of times to see , if it scrolls up thru FM1, FM2 and so forth then you have more than 5 FM programmable buttons. To get a the manual free, register online at www.lexus.com under the owners section. Then you can request an owners manual and a supplemental owners manual free. Or, you can call 1-800-25-LEXUS, press option #4, then request the same from the customer service rep you speak to. You may need your VIN on the phone. steviej
  14. that is too bad. try www.car-parts.com for some used bumpers. steviej
  15. when things like this happen, always look for the positives. 1. you get a whole new bumper and light. you needed the bumper bigtime anyways 2. your dad has to pay for it. 3. you don't have to pay the deductable. 4. your dad has to pay for it. 5. there will be more meets and when there is your car will look 20x better then if this hadn't happened. 6. your dad has to pay for it. steviej PS. did I say you dad has to pay for it? :P
  16. sorry, but I think they look like rims for a truck. a 20" rim in that size is gonna give you a large chrome surface area. Work with Derrick at D2, tell him I sent you. He will go over some nice stuff that will look right on you ES. steviej.
  17. I just installed stainless steel brake lines. I had to flush the lines and would use a significant quantity of fluid. Johnsen's DOT-3 $1.50/pint. steviej
  18. This is correct but I have to add some points. The trip meter must be on ODO, not Trip A or Trip B. Plus you are turning the key to ON...do not start the car. steviej
  19. sounds like the expansion valve is faulty. do a search on "expansion valve" you will see it is common on early model ES's. steviej
  20. First off, I get the sence that you took it to an independent mechanic and not a Lexus or Toyota service shop. A: total bullfunky. It is most definately NOT a common problem. B: More bullfunky. If they replaced your axle(s) or even replaced just the CV boot, then the axles had to come out. To get them out, the wheel, brake rotor, brake caliper and hub nut had to be removed. The ABS sensors are fragile. If they used a sledge to get your axle out (that is common practice...not good...but common) they may have damaged a sensor ring in the either hub. If the light wasn't on before you went in and is on after you came out, something is not right and the shop most likely caused it. Now, to give the benefit of the doubt to the shop, they may have disconnected an ABS wire so that they wouldn't damage it and just forgot to reconnect it. Bring it back to them and give them a chance to fix it. If they don't own up to it and fix it, then tell them you will take it to a Lexus repair shop and then tell the original shop that you will take them to small claims court to get reimbursement for what the Lexus shop charged you to fix what they caused in the first place. steviej
