  2. no that sound (from what you describe) is not normal. But then again, I would have to hear it to be sure. The ABS system does make a sound on start up, but not on first motion. and the brakes are not part of the powertrain so it is not covered under that warranty. Best bet would be to find out what kind of warranty or guarentee came with the purchase if any at all and try to get it covered under that. steviej
  3. eric, you give no details on what the noise sounded like. 1. was it a vibration, clanking, ringing, pinging, plastic sound, metal sound? 2. does it do it every time you accelerate, does it do it when you accelerate slow or fast or both? 3. was it a constant sound for its short duration, was it high pitchec, low pitched, sound like air, sound like something scraping? do you follow me? to ask what a noise only you heard was is kind of hard to answer. more details and we might be able to help. steviej

  5. I spoke with my service advisor and the service manager. If you remember from the pinned tranny thread, they suggested I not go with the first flashover for the hesitation. Since the revised flashover has come out, they reported to me that they have done several of the revised programs and so far no complaints. (for what that means). Both the SA and SM suggested I do this one. They said it was a major improvement over the previous one. So, I have scheduled a service appointment to have this done on May 22. I asked them, that since my car is out of warranty, will Lexus pick up the tab. they said absolutely, they would do it as a "good will" TSB upgrade. I can't complain with that. I will most definately post my opinion. I leave for a vacation that afternoon and the drive to Toronto will help. steviej
  6. most shops today plug an auxillary battery into the cig lighter or the power adapter when a battery has to be changed. This keeps current to the electricals that depend on memory presets and alarm codes. steviej
  7. 98 sit down. I will tell you what they told me. They estimate the plugs to take about 2 hours if they have to remove the plenum. I'm taking a 2002 ES here. Yours may be easier and take less time. My did take about 2 hours but I did not pay the $99/hour rate......but that is just me. The plugs were $12.50 each. Price was not different than online locations when you include shipping. steviej

  9. supposedly the TSB from August 2003 for the 02-03 ES has had a revision and it was released on April 1, 2005 (same TSB# with and R at the end). I will be calling my service manager in the AM to discuss it the details. steviej

  13. my 02 ES is suggested to have the plugs done at 90k. I did them at 60k and I am glad I did. I had noticed a very slight drop in mpg (~1 mpg) and there was a very very slight but noticible surging going on. Had them changed at 60k and the mpg has come back up to what i an used to and the surging is gone. I did the front three, and the dealership did the back three. steviej
  14. Kevin, I am guessing you got a 92-93 ES. here are two simple suggestions that may help you. 1. Try to find the Haynes manual or Chilton manual for the same year Camry should have a good write up with pictures. 2. Another possibility is to go to a large public library. Look in the auto repair manuals for the huge chilton import manual. Get the one that emcompasses the year of your car. It should be in there. steviej PS. I merged the two separate threads you started so that all responces will be in one thread. Word of note, it gets confusing when you post the same thread in two different forums.
  15. marathiboy, if the brake pulsation is annoying you or you feel it takes away from your ride or compromises your ability to brake properly, do not wait until 18k-20k! Ask the dealership to perform the TSB work ASAP. If they won't, then ask them who the next closest dealership is. I am sure they will fit you in. steviej

  17. Dave, First off, I am sorry for your loss. Second, try the last four or five digits of your VIN. I have heard this somewhere. If that doesn't work, you may have to go to the dealership. Since the wrong code was entered possibly more than the allowed tries, it may have locked you out totally. The dealership may know the proper code. Give them a call and see what can be resolved over the phone. steviej
  18. what were the CEL codes that Autozone pulled from your ECU? That will help us. so a search on "transmission" and restrict the search to posts by a member lexusk8. He had a similar situation. Open the search so it will cover the past year. steviej
  19. Bring it back to the body shop and at least give them a chance to fix their work. Speak directly to the manager and be polite. Document everything. You may have to fall back on to your documentation in small claims court. If the re-repair is not to your satisfaction, then tell the shop will you bring it to an second shop to have it fixed properly and then take the first shop to small claims court to reimburse you for the cost of having the second shop fix the first shop's unsatisfactory work. If your insurance paid for any of this, keep them in the loop of the shops attitude and ability, especially if they are the ones that paid the shop. steviej
  20. covered by the basic warranty of the car, 4 year, 50k miles. he is less than 2 year and 30k miles. sj
  21. they are well aware of the TSB (BR002-02). It requires replacement of the front pads and rotors. If your car is still under warranty, it is totally covered and they won't give you a hassle. I had to have mine done when I hit 24k miles. Same exact symptoms. steviej
  22. maybe "fan belt" is an antiquated term because the belt doesn't actually go to the cooling fan as they did in olden days. 1995_ES300, how bout "accessory belts" instead. either way the 1MZFE has 2 of them. one to the ps pump and one for the AC and ALT. steviej
  23. does the reverse ever happen, meaning do you ever lock it only to find it unlocked itself? I have heard that when the battery starts to go, strange electronic things start to happen. Even though the battery has enough juice to start the car each time, little electronic gremlins start to present themselves. On my old SSEi, the clock would loose time and the radio sometimes lost presets. Turned out the battery was going. Put in a new one, electronic quirks ceased. What kind of battery and how old is the battery you have in there now? Next time you run by Autozone, pop in and have them load test you battery. Takes a few minutes, but it is free. steviej
