  1. I have to concur with SK. Doug, I tend to think you may have had a coincedence and the K&N was the most likely candidate for blame. But one will never know. I had one in my SSEi for almost 75k miles before selling and never a problem (washed and reoiled 2 times). I have had one in my ES for over 40k miles now and no problems (even after the first wash and reoil). The key to the oiled filters is the washing and re-oiling. The savings will be in the lack of yearly replacement of the standard filter but only if you extend this to over 5 years of replacements. Any gas savings varies greatly between users. As for performance as in increased pickup or hp............none here. steviej
  2. 93LSOwner The top picture is the (..........drum roll..............) KIA Amanti steviej
  3. $1200 hahahahah, you were gonna do it, weren't you? :D I guess your other half is a pretty smart businesswomen, wouldn't you say? :whistles: steviej
  4. interesting. most lexus dealerships want to do a tranny fluid drain and fill on the 15k services (15, 30, 45, etc.). Maybe cause yours had to be free (CPO) they didn't throw it in. steviej
  5. I have a bunch of LOC stickers and stuff...I'll bring them. This is gonna be cool. steviej

  7. we should put a post on CL and link it to this thread. steviej
  8. LexKid, is this experience with a previous 2002+ ES talking or just speculation? I have 58k and the O2 sensor was the last non scheduled maint item I had to go to the dealer for. steviej
  9. line up a new Infinity, a BMW 5 series and a new Lexus. I think you will see that the tails are becoming very similar across the board.
  10. Dan, please watch the sexist remarks. Don't *BLEEP* off our female contingent of members. Besides, I am sure we both know some guys that this applies to, too. steviej IS Forum Moderator.
  11. that's funny, all the meets I have been to in NE and NY start between 11am and 1pm and last to late afternoon. The high sun makes for better pictures and less shadows. We usually do some sort of BBQ and then just stand around and gawk at each others rides and stuff. steviej.
  12. Let me guess, P0135: Bank 1 Sensor 1. I got that too at about 40k. My service manager said the 2002-2003s had a large batch of O2 sensors that failed prematurely (around 40k) but it is during warranty. steviej
  13. :chairshot: always keep your paperwork.....its your documentation for when the dealer says they have no record of it. steviej
  14. why so late in the day? not complaining, just curious. steviej
  15. fair warning to all: Let's not reopen the age old oil debate unless someone has some new information to bring to the table. If the agruement does commence like usual, the thread will be closed. For all you new members: if you have to ask what oil to use (synthetic or dino), use the search function first! steviej
  16. to you it may not be luxury, but to Nissan, The Maxima is it's flagship sedan. It does come with HIDs. Maxima is to Nissan as Avalon is to Toyota (did that sound like an SAT question or what?) Keep in mind, that HID headlights to the common market immediately raises a higher maintanence cost flag, too. Manufactureres know this. steviej
  17. ahhhhh, let me check my signature. ok, got it! steviej
  18. www.newlexusparts.com when you get to the selection boxes for your car, make sure you click on collision and not mechanical. steviej
  19. LexKid, neither of your 2004 or 2005 ES's should be anywhere near needing a complete fluid flush. However, if you want to save some money on the 15,000 mile intervals and maintain your tranny in tiptop performance you can do a drain and fills yourself. I posted a thread, here, for a 2002. It will work for 2003-2005. steviej
  20. did you not keep any paperwork from when you brought it in to be checked out? steviej
  21. P0135 is specific for the Bank 1 Sensor 1. You have 3 O2 type sensors. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the one sensor between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter that are closest to the firewall. Did perhaps you change the sensor that is in the exhaust manifold closest to the radiator? If so that is Bank 2 Sensor 1. search on "sensor" and limit the search to posts by me in the last 6 months. There was an extensive thread with pictures not too long ago with the same dilemna. Keep in mind that there are other causes that will trip code P0135 by creating an environment that makes the ECU think that the O2 sensor is not functioning. Did you happen to test the O2 senosr you took out to make sure it was faulty? steviej
  22. Steve you confused me here, did you mean to say?: As for platform sharing I have no reason to think Lexus will stop sharing platforms with Toyota, it wouldn't make sense. I think at least powerplants will be shared. steviej
  23. HoeBag, I happened to snap this pic at a LOC/CL meet in NJ last year. It doesn't do it justice but the Parchment Pearl color is pictured here. steviej
  24. look in the manual. There is a nice step by step instruction in there with pictures. It will be under Air conditioning filter. The glove box gets emptied, remove one philips screw on the right side, unhook the black piston, remove a large black plastic knob on each side of the glove box, then let the glove box flop wide open. You will see the slide in filter holder. It is a yellowish plastic about the size of a VHS tape. Pull it out, through out old filter, pop in new one (match the arrow directions on the filter and the holder) slide it back in and reattach the knobs and piston. You're done. steviej
  25. see if you can get the shade of white that comes on the 2004-05 GS called parchment pearl. It is a stunning shade of white especially in the sun. It looks as if there is a hint of mother of pearl in it. steviej
