  1. bras will guard against rock chips and very light objects that hit the car. I doubt the bra would prevent a bike pedal or handle bar from leaving some sort of dent. The paint may not be cracked or chipped with a bra but there are inherent problems with the bra itself. The most notable is if dirt and dust are under the bra it can wear on the paint surface. I have also read stories with dulling of the paint can occur under the bra especially if it rains and the bra is not removed to dry. It would be cheaper to move the bike to the basement or another storage place. steviej
  2. repeat your search on "spark plugs", limit to an exact member search for "ifixem" and open the search for a last week and longer. he posted a pretty good write up for the back three. It ain't fun but can be done. steviej
  3. iceman, your point is well taken but your attitude is a bit overwhelming. Please tone it down a tad, this is a friendly place and not everyone may be as auto-savy as you. On the other hand, welcome to LOC. steviej ES/IS Forum Moderator
  4. sorry to inform you but the ES does have a rubber timing belt and it does need to be changed. Somewhere between 90 and 120k miles depending on year. Usually when the belt is changed so should the water pump, cam and crank seals and pulleys just as a precaution. $1300 about the going rate for the entire 90k mile service around here. two thing to help you: 1. do a search on "timing belt" and limit it to the ES forum. You will have a ton of threads to read through. 2. Check out pricing at your local Toyota dealer, they may be cheaper for labor and use the same parts. price will always depend on what work is done: ie, not having the water pump replaced, etc. steviej
  5. Samsung P407, with the cool swivel camera. Cingular service but all service stinks in my area cause I am right on the water. I am thinking of dumping the phone for the RAZO (motorola) steviej
  6. It would have been easier if you posted this in your already ongoing EGR valve thread. Two simultaneous running threads virtually about the same problem gets very confusing so I have merged the two threads. steviej
  7. I would suggest: 1. YOU STOP YELLING. Typing in all caps on this website and many others is considered rude. 2. Run the numbers through www.kbb.com to find out the going selling price for your area. 3. Read the rules for selling items on this website if you don't want the contents of your post removed. Those rules can be found under the general rules that you agreed to when you joined, in the Buy and Sell forum and at the top of the webpage. steviej ES/IS forum moderator.
  8. That's the combination that I like the best. Been using it for 50k miles now. Try this. 1. get in car, shut doors. put key in ignition and do not move it. 2. make sure you odometer is on total miles and not trip A or trip B. If it is not on total, then push the button right next to it to scroll through trips A and B and back to the total miles. 3. now take you finger off the button and wait a second. 4. With your left hand push that button in and hold it, DO NOT take you finger off it. 5. With your right hand turn the key to the ON position. DO NOT START the car. 6. Keep your finger on the button until the maint. reminder light flashes at you or goes out. 7. Turn the key back to off. 8. Take your finger off the button. Now start the car normally, the maint. reminder light should be out. If it doesn't work, repeat the procedure and reverse steps 7 and 8. steviej
  9. I seriously doubt the car can be considered a lemon because of a molding strip that may be getting snagged by whatever system is in use at that carwash. I tend to stay away from any sort of carwash that touches the car. Even "Soft". The adhesives they make for moldings are very strong and should hold steady if applied correctly and allowed to dry properly. Look for anyplace that has the LaserWash 4000. Does and awesome job and doesn't touch the car. When in doubt, do it yourself. I spring for a complete detailing by a professional 3x year. Then the laserwash about every other week. steviej
  10. I still want to here his story during a torrential rain storm or 3 inches or snow/slush. But I am hoping for the best. steviej
  11. Request #1: STOP YELLING. Typing in all caps is considered rude. Second, it would help very much if you enlightened us to the color of the smoke. White, Blue or Black? steviej
  12. it is possible as several members have them. There are good ones and there is crap. Most likely you will have to sacrifice one of your keys so the chip is left in the car (promotes starting). Best advice is to ask around like you did. Use the search function and not just in the IS forum as the same rules would apply to any Lexus with similar keys and a remote start. Have it professionally done and get a guarantee/warranty. You might want to call a few dealers and see which one they offer and who they subcontract out to to do the install, just to get some idea of what is involved. If it is not done correctly, something electronic usually ain't gonna work after it is installed. steviej
  13. save your search. There is a pinned thread at the top of this forum for "clearing corners. follow the instructions for removing the headlight. bake them to open them up and have the inside and outside of the cover buffed or polished with a plastic polish. You can also clean the lens of each individual lamp. follow the instructions on how to reseal and reinstall them again. However, doing a search will help you find more related threads. I remember one particular thread where before and after pictures were posted of exactly what you need to do. What a difference. steviej
  14. try www.newlexusparts.com www.irontoad.com or www.lexus-parts.com I think you will find that they are charcol impregnated filters and not just paper. At least the 2002+ ones are. I agree though, this still does not justify the high cost. steviej
  15. Steve, I was talking about fall 2006. I still got at least another year to go on mu current Dunlop Sport A2's. The Michelins are on my short list however. I still have to hear your comments on how these perform in heavy rain and next winter's snow. :whistles: steviej
  16. See that stuff all the time. It varies from station to station. Around here it is usuall all octanes that get the sale price. On guy has Wacky Wednesdays, $0.06 off posted price. The Mobil stations usually do theirs on Mondays to catcht the begining of the week fill ups. They usually run $0.06-0.07. It makes the customer think they are getting a deal. It's marketing and whatever gets them in there. steviej
  17. do a search on this and limit it to the IS forum as it has been reported previously There may even be a TSB on the situtaion. steviej
  18. not on mine, I'm am still very pleased with it. You could try pulling your ECU fuse and have it learn your style all over again. steviej
  19. shawn, an intake by itself won't increase the HP a whole hell of alot. You got to open up both ends. Think intake, exhuast and TURBO. Now we're talking seriously increased HP. There are many applications available. It all comes down to one thing..........."what's in your wallet!!!" steivje
  20. go to www.kbb.com and run the numbers yourself. This will give you commensurate pricing based on your zip code and you know what options are on the car you are looking at as well as the condition. Run it for both private sale and for sale by dealer. steviej
  21. Pretty clean engine bay, not bad for 62,000 miles.
  22. I totally love a freshly detailed car. (the white lines on the wood are just a reflection)
