  1. NewtoLexus: the system isn't letting you send a PM or email through LOC because you will not have access to those functions until your post count is above 20. steviej
  2. I think you will find that lexusk8 is riding on LS-V's now. steviej
  3. maybe so on the early models. However, on the 2002+ ES models, that indicator light now covers taillights AND brake lights. sj
  4. if it only comes on when you step on the brake, then a brake light bulb is out. If it is constantly on, then a taillight bulb is out. Check them all, some people have reported that this light comes on when liscence plate bulbs are out as well as side marker bulbs. steviej
  5. Factory chrome rims will run you $350 to $500 depending on where you get them. Another option would be to have you alloys chromed. Last option would be to check out www.tirerack.com and go through their wheel selection routine as you will be able to see the rim in question on a picture of an 04 ES. Keep in mind the higher you go above 16" the less the ride will be like the stock rims. You will sacrifice smoothness for size. But 18" do look sharp!!! ;) steviej
  6. Next year I will be getting new treads and it is down to the LSV's and the Michies that SW has. Hopefully Goodyear will decide to market the TripleTread in an H or V rated 215/60-16 by next September. I just hate the Bridgie dealer near me and I feel funny about bringing Bridgies into my Goodyear dealer and asking him to mount them. steviej
  7. you may have to leave it with the service manager so that they can drive it for the week and hopefully it won't start eventually. Does it just happen when the engine is cold or will it not start when the engine is warm/hot? Does it ever just cut out when it is already running? in accordance with the other posts: what sound does it make when it won't start? does it go click click click or whhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh wwhhhhhhhhhrrrrrhhhhhhh wwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh? you need three things to start a car: fuel, spark and air. the trick is to find out what is missing when your car won't start. steviej
  8. no, 92-98 are non-interference 99-05 are interference. 99 came out with VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) I remember it as Variable Valve Timing - Interference. steviej
  9. don't forget the RX, they have them, too. steviej
  10. don't be surprised if their responce or resolve is a rework/reprint the numbers in the table so that the totals stay as printed. If this is so, then an entire article reprint would have to be published. That would not be good for their credibility. steviej
  11. sk, the rims in the avatar are the stock run of the mill 16" 9 spokes alloys. steviej
  12. 2 manual set was obtained from www.lexus-parts.com for about $250 shipped. I am in the process of contacting the www.troublecode.net to alert them of their misprint. steviej
  13. opinion! I personally think they look very nice. I am partial to 5and 6 spoke wheels. Just today I saw a new 5 series BMW with a rim very similar, so similar I had to look real close to see if they were actually the Lexus ES rim. steviej
  14. interesting, on the other side, I have seen a major increase in the number of AWD sedans and coupes hit the showrooms. Just saw that the Chrysler 300 is not offered in an AWD version. steviej
  15. stand in front of the car and peek under the front exhaust manifold. you will see the bottom end of the filter sticking up at you. hints: wear long sleeves as the manifold may be hot. I take a 20oz soda bottle and cut off the top about 1/2 to 3/4 the way up from the bottom. Place this newly made catch basin under the drip spout just under the filter. The drip spout is on the side of the engine block where the filter mounts and will direct the oil right into the your catch basin. The catch basin sits on the crossmember just below. It keeps the oil from getting all over the top side of the plastic splash guard below. You will get about a cup or so of oil that spills out of the filter when unscrewed. When the filter is then extracted, the catch basin can be carefully withdrawn while holding it upright. This will eliminate any oil spillage whatsoever. steviej
  16. since the GS is RWD and the ES is FWD you may have to add spacers to conpensate for the different hub depths. steviej
  17. Interesting: www.troublecodes.net/lexus says P1155 is Bank 1 Sensor 1 2002 ES Lexus shop manual says P1155 is Bank 2 Sensor 1 comparing the two references with other codes, the www.troublecode.net sight is incorrect. All other P115# codes on this sight say Bank 2 Sensor 1. The P113# codes are Bank 1. you may still be ok. The only difference between the Bank 1 sensor and the Bank 2 sensor is the length of the wire from the sensor to the connector. B2S1 is easy to get to. remove the air intake tube so that you can get you hands to the connector. Eyeball or actually measure the wire that goes from the sensor to the connector. Then measure the wire on the extra sensor you now have, assuming you didn't throw away the one you originally took out from B1S1. If it is the same length or longer, then replace the defective B2S1 AF sensor with the extra one you have. However, if the wire is shorter it may not reach. steviej
  18. the VX was supposed to the the replacement for the LX. The VX was to have the same base as the Sequoia. However, I can't help but wonder if Toyota/Lexus has put this on hold given the bad rap SUVs are taking lately with the rising/high gas prices. steviej
  19. what year are we talking? Because you are jumping terminals I am guessing that it is a 92 or 93? also check the black accordian style hose that goes from the air box to the throttle body. Check for cracks and holes. They get brittle and can be break thus allowing more air than expected into the mix. Cheap to replace. steviej
  20. please try using the SEARCH function as your gas and oil questions are asked on an at least monthly basis. steviej
  21. the question about interior damage was to assess how far back the visible damage goes. If the dashboard was moved or glass cracked.....it all adds in to the cost. The airbags if deployed would be a good for another grand in the totalling cost. Suprising....that much front end damage and no airbag deployment. Hope the frame ain't out of whack now. What happened, is it your car or a friends? steviej
  22. can you give us a few more of the details? what is the year, make, model and mileage? did the air bags go off? what's the left side look like, what does under the hood look like? what does the interior look like? steviej
  23. yeah, my bad too <--- sarcastic moderator toys, you need to cool your attitude. It is becoming apparent in this and several other threads. steviej
  24. With all of your excellent tech advice it's a pity that you aren't mature enough to respect the opinions of others. ← yeah, xxxavier, I caught that too, but then I interpreted it as an arrow pointing to his own avatar, then I thought maybe it was an icon code that lost the right side bracket. Actually, now, I am not sure what it means. I will give Toysrme a chance to explain the "<-dumbass" comment and fix it or I am just going to remove it. I am not sure whom it is directed at. steviej
