  1. And if you wait until you retire, you may not be able to finish the trip! 😅 But that IS the longest walkable trip I've ever seen (on a map).
  2. It appears to be your fuel mileage over time, taking into consideration your vehicle's assistance from battery power. Here's a good article that explains this is more detail: What is MPGe: electric car fuel economy ratings explained | YourMechanic Advice
  3. You can always call the pros at tirerack and ask them what they think. If you had a 1990s-era vehicle, I'd be less concerned but there are so many safety-related electronics in today's vehicles that a tire diameter change could cause issues of which we do not consider.
  4. I forgot to check availability of the 255 tires. It looks like only Pirelli has them as a Summer tire and they are extremely expensive. Discount Tire will order tires and receive them within a week. They rarely keep stock of the tires I buy. Honestly, I agree with Lexigrl that going with a much smaller diameter tire is risky.
  5. I believe there is only one blend door actuator. See: Genuine Lexus Blend Door Actuator - Lexus Parts Now Lexus IS250 HVAC Blend Door Actuator Replacement Cost Estimate (repairpal.com) But really, you should not need one in a vehicle that is only 8 years old. Our Lexus is almost 17 years old and its actuator has never been replaced. You could buy a service manual which could pay for itself after one repair.
  6. You'd have to go to a 255/50/18 (28.04 inches diameter) to get close to the 235/55/18 (28.18 inches diameter) Here's how you calculate it: Example: 255/50/18 tire 18 + (255x.50x2/25.4) = 28.04 inches 18 + (235x.55x2/25.4) = 28.18 inches Of course, you'd have to find out if the wider tires would fit. Why do you want to change?
  7. Did you check the negative cable? A bad ground could prevent proper charging. If you can't find anything obvious, you may consider taking it to an Auto Electric shop. Solving electrical issues is their business.
  8. Yes, indeed. A few years ago I had asked a girl at work what kind of vehicle she was going to get and she told me she was looking at Mercedes SUVs. This same girl had told me previously that she was going to look at Lexus SUVs. When I asked her why she was leaning toward the MB, she told me that the MB salesman told her that Lexus vehicles have Toyota engines. (....as if that was a bad thing!) If I were there I would've whipped out the Consumer Reports magazine showing that Lexus is the most reliable brand sold in the US, and that Mercedes came in 23rd out of 28. 😏
  9. Hello, Robert. I've noticed that throughout the history of Lexus, many vehicles were based upon Toyota drivetrains and hardware. The main differences were interior materials and features. Obviously, the Lexus name brings with it, status. But other auto manufacturers have been doing the same thing. The Acura Integra should've been a Honda, in my opinion.
  10. Yes, always look on the bright side. I was almost killed in a motorcycle crash in the early 80s. Check out this guy's quote:
  11. That makes sense. You could use an RTV sealant on the outside. Silicone has a very wide operating temperature range.
  12. Paul, I am curious as to if you sealed the hose fitting. While Teflon tape or liquid pipe thread sealant is typically used when tapered threaded holes are formed, RTV would work for low pressure (vacuum or positive) applications. McMaster also has straight thread hose fittings that contain a gasket or o-ring seal.
  13. Wow, that's over 100,000 miles more than I have! But yes, with some other vehicles multiple issues make swapping vehicles very easy. With Lexus, Mazda, and Toyotas, there are far fewer reasons to let them go. I picked up one of my sisters and brother-in-law at the airport a few years ago and they thought the RX400h was new. I recommend checking your tire pressure and adjusting if necessary, every 2-3 months. It does make a difference with fuel mileage.
  14. Nice website of Ringwood Brewery, Trevor! I feel like having a beer!
  15. I like fruit-flavored carbonated water on ice - no sugar but surprisingly satisfying on a hot day.
  16. Have you checked the cabin filter? When was the last time it was replaced? Another possibility is a dead rodent near the engine or somewhere inside the air ducting.
  17. Did the dealership check stock in the US? Just because it is no longer made does not necessarily mean that there are none in stock at any dealership. Another option may be to find a rubber hose that you can cut to size and modify as necessary. If you can measure what you have I can try to find hose that might work.
  18. Believe me, if you instead owned a 2006 BMW, Audi, or Mercedes, you'd have already spent many thousands of dollars. Lexus vehicles are almost always far more reliable.
  19. Perhaps titanium screws are part of your body, then. I know dirt bikers who have them.
  20. Another possibility is to have someone create the design and then have a custom metal label made with self-adhesive (for outdoor use). Vistaprint and many other companies do this.
  21. Ah, you played professional football far past your prime.😃 I have a brother-in-law who ran longer distances for many years. He had to have a hip replaced at the age of 60. There were too many miles on his odometer, also. While I ran long distance races in high school, I stopped after graduating. Even at 17 years of age I was getting shin splits and hip pain.
  22. I spoke to a mechanic who was telling me that many Mercedes owners were coming in with oil sludge in their engines because they waited too long in between oil changes and they were not using the recommended synthetic oil. I believe that turbo engines and those that are not maintained properly can benefit from synthetic oils. I like them because I'd rather change the oil only one per year. Costco has a great synthetic oil now that is very reasonably priced. I just picked up a couple packs of 5-gallon containers.
  23. Excellent. You can often cure urethanes and epoxies much faster by backing. I've made quite a few polyurethane shifter knobs during years past and post-curing them for 3 - 4 hours at 60C replaced letting then cure at room temperature for one week. Dand, you are a Lexus guy!
  24. Very nice! Is that a metal cup? You should also be able to find T-shirts with the Lexus logo. I have a Mazda one. There's a custom t-shirt store nearby. They can apply any kind of image to a shirt or shirts of your choice. I had them make a couple that are super-soft 100% cotton.
