  1. You may have never heard a dealership service advisor tell you that they will not touch aftermarket installations, especially those involving electrical/electronic devices. I had my own-designed catch can and an aftermarket air intake filter installed in my 2001 Corvette. The dealership wouldn't touch it in that condition so I swapped out the filter with the OEM one and removed the oil catch can before having anything else serviced. My point here is that the dealership may not want to touch Desert Man's ES, so his best bet may very well be an auto-electric expert.
  2. Yes, although it tends to be polarizing to some people.😏 However, they can always buy the Lexus in black.
  3. The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, sometimes also referred to as Right to Repair, is a name for several related proposed bills in the United States Congress and several state legislatures which would require automobile manufacturers to provide the same information to independent repair shops as they do for dealer shops. Yes, some of the diagnostic tools are expensive but I believe the car in question is a 1998 ES300 - not exactly a Tesla.
  4. I think it's a good idea for Lexus to continue to improve hybrids. Most countries are nowhere near being able to support a high percentage of EVs. Hybrids represent the best of both worlds at this time.
  5. There are at least two auto-electric shops in the San Diego area. Here's one that I have used: Welcome to Pacific Auto Electric | Best Car Repair Shop | Poway A quick search for auto-electric shops brought up many of them throughout the US, so they are far from dead.
  6. I believe you can add a UV dye made for engine oil. Once everything is cleaned, you would check your engine, frequently to spot the oil seepage using a UV light. Finding Oil Leaks with UV Light - Did It Myself (did-it-myself.com)
  7. Have you contacted this company? New LCD + Touch Screen for LEXUS iS250 iS350 iSF Navigation Monitor Di – German Audio Tech I believe they have the screen for the assembly but not the entire assembly. You may want to describe your issue to them.
  8. This web page contains some general checks after the U0100 code is retrieved. U0100 Code & How To Fix It - PCM Repair - Solo Auto Electronics (solopcms.com)
  9. You might want to consider taking your car to an Auto Electric shop. They are experts with auto wiring. I've used them a few times when the cause of some issues was not readily apparent.
  10. It could be that you ran over something that is wedged underneath. If you have vehicle ramps, you can drive up and check underneath. Apply the emergency brake before you crawl underneath. I also use wheel chocks behind the rear tires when I change the oil in any of our vehicles.
  11. That looks about right. The next thing I'd do is to remove the brake light bulbs and repeat your stepping on the brakes while monitoring the AC and sound system. If they are not affected, then you should replace the bulbs with new ones and then repeat the test.
  12. While the engine is running, check battery voltage with a multimeter. It should be a bit over 13.5 VDC. If it's not, the alternator may be bad. Incandescent brake light bulbs draw a fairly large amount of current.
  13. Hello, Jonathan. If no one answers here, I recommend that you check with Tirerack at 1-888-541-1777. 888-541-1777
  14. I guess you'd have to know the temperature at which the fan is designed to switch on and it would be beneficial to be able to measure the coolant temperature to and beyond that temperature. Without knowing this information, you are just guessing if there is an issue. Do you happen to have a factory repair manual? Sometimes you can find these at reasonable cost on Amazon or Ebay.
  15. Here are a few of ideas: 1. Did you check the oil to make sure it is not milky white, which would indicate a possible head gasket leak? 2. When the coolant was last replaced, was the air bled from the system? 3. The radiator could be partially clogged, or water pump could be bad.
  16. Welcome to the Lexus club, Fighter Pilot. You might want to peruse this website page: Catalytic converter thefts: Most targeted cars listed (way.com) It seems that your car is not targeted as much as some others on the included list.

  18. Jim, I have read that many leaking wheel/tire interfaces can be fixed by a thorough cleaning. You may not need to do anything else. I would also call your local tire shop and ask how they feel about your choice of sealant. I would think that they've seen many wheels that were coated with tire sealant. In other words, what do the experts think?
  19. I have quite a few watches but rotate through 6, all high-contrast so they are easy to read at any distance. My two favorites are these: The Seiko Kinetic watch cannot be wound using the knob or with a typical watch winder (You have to swing it back and forth many times.), so I experimented with various ways to move its pendulum frequently enough to charge its capacitor. It took playing around with a stepper motor and controller, as well as differently shaped motor attachments. Finally, I have something that works. I've sold at least 20 of them over the past year.
  20. Apparently, there is a cord inside that can break. Trying to replace antenna mast on my 2000 RX300, got the antenna off but the cord with the teeth didn't come out. Trying (justanswer.com)
  21. I would consider replacing it with a newer version from a salvage yard or ebay. Another option is to design a component that can be made by 3D printing. The cost should be reasonable.
  22. Have you called the dealership parts department to see if the piece has its own part number?
  23. Jim, did you apply soapy water to the tire, its stem, and the tire to rim interface? Checking the tire/rim bead should be free at a Discount Tire store, especially if you've purchased from them previously. I would not recommend tire sealant. This made to be temporary, only.
  24. Many years ago when I had either my 1968 or 2001 Corvettes, I would drive them to work and then cover with a car cover. But there were certain destinations that were best visited with a more common vehicle, so as to not attract any unwanted attention. Home Depot, certain restaurants, grocery stores, etc. were mostly off-limits. Since 2014 I haven't had this type of concern. However, within a few years I plan to buy a sports car that will most likely be quite a bit more valuable than my 2008 Miata PRHT. It this time, the contenders are an LC500 or 500h (new or used), a Lotus Emira, or a used Lotus Evora (last year produced was last year (2021). So, would you be so kind as to let me know where you feel comfortable parking your car away from home? I have one neighbor (a few houses up the street) who has a black LC500 convertible but I have not had the opportunity to talk with him. Thanks in advance. Dave
