  1. Got the job done! It required a 12-point, 30mm socket. Took less than an hour. I wrote a detailed step by step process with some pictures, helpful youtube videos and links to parts RX350 hub bearing replacement.docx RX350 hub bearing replacement.docx
  2. Thanks, I will keep you posted if this works. Have to do one last trip of the year for work, but hope to have this done before Xmas.
  3. Believe I have a bad wheel bearing. Quiet grinding noise that changes with speed and is not affected by braking (also changed brakes so know they are not the issue). I have a 30mm and a 32mm socket (both 6-point) but neither will fit over the spindle/axle nut. The spindle/axle nut is a 12-point nut if that matters. Does anyone know what size socket I need to buy? TIA
  4. Not getting any feedback, I searched for issues with the Highlander. Found several folks complaining about rust formation where the cable meets the lever at the transaxle. Lo and behold, the lever was very rusty. I hit it with PB blaster, then chain lube and its working better. Attached are pictures for the location - helps to raise the car, but you can see it from the ground. My process: Day 1 - PB Blaster, then 8 hours later WD-40; Day 2 - same as day 1; Day 3 - chain lube and moved the shifter through all its range (moving better) Plan: repeat this in one week, then perhaps every 6 months when I swap snow tires or earlier if it ever gets stiff again.
  5. 2012 RX350 Believe my shifter transmission cable has an issue. Research leads me to believe the bushing is bad or the cable itself is corroded/frayed. The cable is NOT easy access to replace or even lubricate. I'm trying to access the bushing under the shifter but I need help. Anyone done this before? Is access on the passenger side? How do I remove the lower panel? Do I need to remove the glove box? Attached pictures show where I'm at and how I got there.
  6. A warning light will stay on if TPMS are not installed or tire pressure is off. More importantly, several states require TPMS if the vehicle came that way. Here is a list of states: http://www.tirerack.....jsp?techid=214 Not sure what the regs are in Canada, however. As for the off-set, I also go to TireRack (no I don't work for them) - enter your make, model, year and search for wheels - then look at the specs and they will tell you. Good luck!
  7. Any update on changing the motor mount? I changed my upper at it was straightforward. The lower front is proving more elusive. Not sure how I can remove the top bolts. What tools have others used?
  8. Any update on the cause? Have the motor mounts been changed? Have read posts where a bad mount causes engine to shift when under load - leads to a clicking noise.
  9. Like 'lenore' said, it had a bad inner CV joint and needed the drive axle (passenger side) replaced. Bought on-line for about $100, replaced it myself. NOT a piece of cake, however. There were a lot of seized bolts and cotter pins (especially the drive shaft in the hub assemby, the cotter pin in the ball joint nut and the 6 bolts that attach the inner CV joint to the tranny). Required impact hammer, penetrating lube, propane torch, a 5lb hammer and a cheater pipe. One suggestion that I got off the internet - when disconnecting the ball joint, don't remove the cotter pin and main bolt (the one that points vertically) - there is very little room (too little to even get the box end of a wrench on it and the open end was stripping the nut) - instead remove the 3 bolts from the control arm (very easy access with a socket). This way you also don't need any special tools and are not as likely to damage the ball joint. FWIW - I don't have a Lexus dealership nearby - went to Toyota - mechanic drove the car and told me the clicking sound was from a rock stuck in the wheel! Goes to show that anything a mechanic says should be subject to scrutiny.
  10. Still waiting for some help ... anyone? If it is the CV - it looks as though replacing the axle shaft, with in and out CV joints, is the way to go... if so, remanufactured vs. aftermarket vs. new?
  11. Not with my Lexus, but with our Volvo same thing happened. There is a cable running from the cap release to the gas cap (may be more than one cable connected lengthwise). Try to follow the path; if you can order the part and do it yourself, otherwise any dealer should be able to do and should cost under $100 (cheap for a Lexus dealer).
  12. Help Please! Just noticed this morning (wife's car, so may have been going on for some time) a clicking sound coming from the passenger front wheel area when turning hard to the left. Is this a CV issue (all boots look fine). If so, estimate on parts and labor and rebuild or aftermarket parts acceptable. Thanks '02 RX300 2WD with 99k
