  1. time for a new mechanic my friend
  2. mo, i referred him to jeff tsai! i figured if ne1 would have some insite or info jeff would....good luck with the install!
  3. 5 mpg isnt close though! what i wouldnt do for 5 more mpg. lol but i gotcha. see im coming from a es300 lexus and i actually got DECENT mileage outta that thing. some1 tell me y i sold it to my pops again?
  4. did u EVEN read the posts i sent u? apprantally not cause RIGHT under 1st pic it says "This is actually where I have stopped for the night. It is late and I need an O2 sensor to replace the one before the cat because it is impossible to remove. I will call LMS tomorrow and get the details on how to wire it in, per LXOGOOD's recommendation because, to my knowledge, he is the only other member with a header installed on the GS300. I have been in communication with him for a couple months about this install and he said LMS handled everything. O2simulator.com does have a skimpy "guide" for an IS but, the diagram does not match what I see. I even had a fellow CL member "kurby" from the IS forums open his up for me and the connector was still different. Here is the link to the seeminghttp://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?#ly wrong IS diagram. No connector on either of ours under the cover has four rows of wires. We both have three." essentially he is needing a new o2 sensor, buys a O2 simulator instead and these are the directions to wire it BUT he then realizes he has the wrong ones,he eventually gives you the right ones.....bout 3 pics down
  5. im a newer gs owner (within last 2 years but i been in the lexus family for almost 5 years now...i know its not that long but im only 26 and i bought and paid for EACH of my own lexus myself, my 21st b-day to myself was a es300 lexus) neways here is a company that uses the purolater c35518 cabin air filter for CHEAP. its the same as the oem filter (i dont recall if this is the carbon activated filter or not) it is what i have in MY car right now but i will check next time its due and if its not the carbon activated i will be removing it! http://www.automotivefiltersdirect.com/ind...t&Itemid=29
  6. um get the car hooked up to a diagnostic scan tool and find out why the check engine light is on, then you'll know if you should buy it and if you should worry!
  7. yeah when i bought the car it had almost 72k on it....im closing in on a 100k soon (im at 98k right now) yes i drive alot, yes i travel, yes i love my car.....i knew it would take a depreciation but cause of the stupid gas shortage it took like a 13k price drop! BOO HOO um are you saying you get 20 mpg CITY on the gs430? so your claiming to get 2 mpg HIGHER than the factory 18 city they claim?i would say its possible but VERY unlikely, most the gs300's BARELY see 20 city so sorry brother on this one i'm gonna call shenanigans (you'll know where and what i ripped that off from, if ne1 besides me gets the joke)! i have NEVER seen better than 16 city although i have actually gotten the 23 highway they claim.
  8. it really depends. sounds like a good deal but like he said, a BUNCH of the maintenance probably hasn't been done on this car and no telling what has or hasn't been done to it. make sure the maintenance hasn't been done that u wanna get involved with this car. your gonna be doing or need to be doing alot of things if it hasnt been kept up! ALL these probably need to be done: a timing belt, idler pulley, pulleys, acc belt, spark plugs, differential fluid, change oil, tranny fluid, a/c filter, air filter, water pump (not required but i recommend),make sure cam seals not leaking, lower control arms, there is more i just can think of what. im not saying it needs all these but these are some recommended maint at this mileage and some from past mileage that you dont know if they did
  9. um don't u think u should ATLEAST have it looked at by a competent mechanic...so you don't end up stuck somewhere someday?
  10. the short answer to your post topic..... YES,yes u r getting hosed. find a new (new to you or a used) and leave that shop but remember SOME metal shavings are normal
  11. i was considering headers for my 02 gs300, but decided against it because of emissions testing in my county. The header i was considering buying was from Mazzuri Super. Their website is http://www.mazzurisuper.com/ and run about $850. Out of the others I looked, these appeared to be constructed much better. They were also helpful over the phone and email. see ya. search some old posts..... i know obx has them, i haver heard to stay away from them butt jefftsai has them....u can ask him (pm me if u need contact info) http://www.projectgs.com/diy/Engine/HeadersGS3/index.htm carbon modified some is300 toyomoto ones to run on his gs http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=43637 i think rmm used to make some but i dunno good luck
  12. Good luck on this....keep us posted. i gotta run for a but i will c if i can help you with this info l8r...oh try using google for some of this info. i started looking into a turbo project when i bought mine and quickly abandoned it due to all the obstacles. started looking at a jet supercharger (u can check my old posts my 1st handful on these) but thinking bout going to the remote mount STS turbo now though. ttyl
  13. I hope it has every option including navigation.....Because hes about $4,000-$5,000 above Kelly Blue Book Value!! My suggestion is when you book a vehicle you need to consider condition inside/out. What options are included Nav, Spoiler, Uprgraded wheels etc. How it runs, How many owners, And what maintainence has been done!! $12,000 is what my 2001 GS430 Blue Books for. Keep in mind also he may be booking it at "Retail", And he has to book it at "Private Party"! Hes not a dealer, and unless hes offering you a warranty he cant ask what hes asking PERIOD!!!!!!! So at $12,000 that sounds like Retail...... As far as reliability and longevity these cars are built for just that!! Its not a BMW or MERCEDES. But prices for parts can be above average but it is a LEXUS, and overall from what im seeing they can run over 300,000 miles with ease as long as there kept maintained!! And yes I believe the timing belt and usual maintainence needs to be done at this mileage....Unless the current owner has addressed everything!????? Again the values im getting on KBB.COM are as follows:( "FAIR" $7,075 / "GOOD" $7,850 / "EXCELLENT" $8,475 ) And rarely does a car fall under excellent condition!! But go ahead and do some research you will rarely find a Lexus owner that is unhappy with their vehicle, And on a scale of 1-10 I see the average being 10 as far as quality Not many complaints about these cars that ive seen (lexus gs)!! Hope I helped!! Good Luck minor major problems....biggest one is ball joints NEED to be changed at 100k but can go out again...just a design flaw on the 2nd gen! i do agree with midnight....dont pay 12k for a 1998. u can get a 2001-2003 gs 300 or 430 for bout that price. maybe a tad more. dammit......i thought u were wrong bout your gs430 retails for....so i kbb.com it....when i bought my car last sep, my car had a kbb of 23k on it....PLUS IT ONLY HAD 70,000 miles on it. now it has 97,000 miles on it and a kbb $13,010 how lame is that....before this dumb gas crunch my car was worth a ton....oh well boo hoo i aimed to keep her till she fell apart neways! but that still sucks! http://usedcars.kbb.com/fyc_b/vdp.jsp?ct=u...amp;cardist=479 i would buy a example like that if u can afford the difference in price....if i it had a nav i would jump all over it. ALSO look at pic 25....look what band he has on his radio! hahahaha if you could get him down on the price some this is a good find also http://usedcars.kbb.com/fyc_b/vdp.jsp?ct=u...amp;cardist=318 or u could come play with the big boys and get a GS430 with a v8 for dirt since no1 wants one nemore since they gas fiends lol (they really not that bad) if u could get him down to 17k i would JUMP on this if u can afford it.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...%3A1|240%3A1308 another good deal, buy this one and TRADE ME the interior lol http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...%3A1|240%3A1308 hell this one just needs a interior detail and maybe a good buff/wax http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...%3A1|240%3A1318 or get this and sell those HIDEOUS rims.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...%3A1|240%3A1318 AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU GET, PLEASE DONT DO THIS TO YOUR LEXUS AND TRUST ME THIS ISNT THE WORST http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...%3A1|240%3A1318
  14. Did you recently purchase the car? Do you know the history of the car? I would suggest taking it to Lexus! And as far as price im guessing the average cost of an inspection?? So in the ballpark of $65-$100 and change. And the manual should have suggested intervals on maintainence! But I believe "Preventive" is the best maintainence you can do! It'll save you alot of hassle and money in the future. My GS430 has 95k and I just replaced the air filter changed the oil, and im gonna replace the belt and hoses. It may also be due for a timing belt? But im gonna have Lexus handle that. Its hard to trust the quality of work done on your typical "Jack of trades" mechanic shops!! The dealer may cost more, But I think you might get a little more piece of mind. Take Care welcome to the club u 2. manual does have suggested intervals...try using the search too next time guys....it will help noobs and og's and people in between! who gave u those prices for a service? he probably wont get out on a 60k service FROM a dealer for less than 200. Have u EVER been outta the dealership for NETHING for less than a bill? try this post dc fish made... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=34718 look at page 18 on the pdf! midnight SOME of our service is diffrent than the gs's service....not much but if your at 95k your past due for a timing belt, idler pulley, tensioners, spark plugs, differential fluid change, a/c filter, check ball joints but i would replace them at 95k regardless, also in this service i would do acc belt, water pump, check cam seals, and change radiator fluid...some others but im kinda frazzled this morning so i cant think of the rest. as far as piece of mind, i actually dont like my stearlership in town....except a guy named kurt that works at the parts counter, he's great. i trust my personal mechanics (yes i have 2 they work in same shop) more than ne other dealer in town as i have been using them both for years....no complaints, FEW problems, helpful and cheap (get the long time friend + the brother in laws best friend is one of my mechanics so that helps too)
  15. thats true, nothing will tell better than time! before u install try using some of those felt covers to go over the terminals they sell at autozone. i know they look silly but they supposed to reduce corrosion and some petroleum jelly (n no not of your night stand, your gonna go blind ) or some grease can also help reduce corrosion ODDLY enough Baking soda and water works very well to clean them also AND NOT the coke theory we have all heard for years.... http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/acid.asp
  16. hehehe :D thanks for the compliments on my art work, but I still don’t know if I should just leave it alone or ask my mechanic to take it off? Or should I take pitcher and comeback later? take a pic maybe its actually something hightech from the future that fell off a delorean. so now a delorean is high tech? even back in the 80's when i was growing up on the BTTF movies (if u dont know im not telling you) the delorean wasnt high tech till those movies came out and even they (the movies) didn't save them (delorean) from money woos as they shut down not long after the 3rd one i think. funny though lately i have been seeing more and more of them. mechanic has 2 up at his shop right now...people stopped driving them after that movie i guess thinking they would be worth more as all models of them i have seen have less miles than i put on in one year! NEWAYS back to the topic.....after looking at his pic and semi understanding...it almost sounds like a CHEAP set of coilovers he's describing....but im not sure...or is that just me? he says "The car has after market brackets installed on the top pat of shock absorber springs" which wouldn't/couldn't be pillow mounts possibly? "The brackets fitted around center pipe and are locking two coils of the spring together on each side" which possibly would be the spring wrapped around the shock with the 2 adjustment perches (the place u turn your wrenches to lower/raise a coilover) what color are these items? r there ne brand names written on them? (is it supposed to br written or wrote here, haha and my mother is a english teacher) look best way to help us figure this out to help you figure it out (am i confusing everyone today lol) is 2 TAKE A PIC and post it up here
  17. if its like my gs430 there are 2....one is under the dash by the steering wheel just further under the dash and the second is under the hood...i think on the right.....ok just went and looked at both of mine.....ok dash one.....look for the foot light that comes on.......drivers side, its RIGHT next to it but its really low so u gonna have to bend down, says ecu on it i think it said, its cold so i didnt stay long! one under the hood.....IF YOUR LOOKING AT THE MOTOR FACING THE CAR....its on drivers side to the left of the fuse box, says diagnostic or diagnosis. i forgot what it said already and its cold, im not going back outside lol
  18. it sounds like a front strut bar....but im a little confused as to what your talking about does it look something like this? or maybe you can post a pic of it and we can all understand (or maybe its just me). ignore the brands i just googled the images NOT all of them are for our car...the first one is for sure http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=389303 http://www.boomplustoys.net/images/sti/STi...t_Strut_Bar.jpg http://www.maxdax.com/images/t_altis_strut_bar_cf-t.jpg http://www.advancespeedshop.com/images/tei...trut%20oval.jpg http://images.importtuner.com/features/071...0+strut_bar.jpg
  19. no problem. i just ordered my 2nd set and will have them in shortly. finally i can put my glove box back together! after last install with bad servo's (i bought some used ones, never again) i just decided to leave glove box off until i got new ones so FINALLY i can fully fix this! can walk you through this if u need BUT I SWEAR TO GOD IM GONAN TRY AND FINISH MY DIY THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT WEEK AS I HAVE LIKE 100 PICS TO GO WITH IT AND NEED TO DELETE SOME!
  20. i 2nd this.....think dealer would know better than most of us! yeah your mileage is gonna increase some (dunno bout 2 mpg) but your tires will ALSO wear faster at 37 than at 32.....i run mine Michelin mxv4's with nitrogen at about 33-34 ALL year! deflate those tires a tad...im my opinion
  21. welcome to the club.....sound like u have the MODE servo out....mine did that also as my temp servo went out! try searching next time please, it will help immensely. i will post some links to get you on your way though...fairly cheap i think the part is like 150 or so.....plus labor if u paying someone....they under the glovebox so no need to remove all of dash http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=53289 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...hl=servo+motors http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...hl=servo+motors http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...hl=servo+motors if your gonna do this yourself (its fairly easy....and i swear one of these days im gonna finish my DIY) make sure u get new ones....if u gonna have a shop or a dealer do this, i recommend doing both the mode/temp servo so 20 days later the other one doesnt happen to go out and you gotta pay for this AGAIN.
  22. ball joints, eventually servo motors (most the time), make sure maintanance has been done and is up 2 date, other than that nothing i can really recall
  23. ok we BOTH apparantally stealing off jeff's DIY BUTTTTTTTTTTT the wiring diagram u gave him is incorrect this is the one he needs....its on the top http://www.projectgs.com/DIY/Engine/ECU_Pinout/index.htm he has a 2001 gs300 and you posted the pinout for a 98-2000 gs300
  24. I am running a yellow top optima battery sits a tad lower but here is a fix, one like i'll be doing soon. i used motor spacers (not car motors but like condensor and blower motors for hvac) http://clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=393495
  25. nope never used them before. 200...........hmmmm just replaced one on my buddies nissan altima was 500 something list i think n he works for nissan....his car came from up north like mine and the salt in the road ate the sensor up. who knows, might be more problems than not having abs. take it to a compentent mechanic or a brake specialist. i know thats what your looking for but i try to steer clear or certain problems with cars....if its a little minor brake thing thats cool but something major and i dont wanna touch it with a pole Thanks for your help. I totally agree. The car has lowering springs and I know that the sensor's wires are often damaged during less than careful suspension swaps. Hopefully that's all that has happened. here is a DIY repair for this IF ITS A TORN WIRE.....yeah these wires get bojangled ALOT http://www.projectgs.com/DIY/SuspBrake/ABSVSC/index.htm
