  1. Well the 2003 and 2004 navs are a completely different system, different manufacturer etc. Tried this on my dad's and sure enough, its the same way.
  2. Yeah as long as you keep the Lexus clean inside and dont smoke in it, it will always smell fresh and new. Its the high quality of the materials. I dont know how well purchasing an ozone machine will work, you need a professional grade machine. I would just call a detailer and have them do the entire interior, shampoo the rugs etc and ozone it. Shouldn't cost but $80 or so. I dont have the ozone machine but if you weren't halfwar 'round the world I'd do the interior detail for you for free ;)
  3. Check out the gallery, lots of pics of ES's with spoilers in there ;)
  4. Hey Alan... Have you tried calling a Toyota dealership and see what they want for the DVD update disk? Toyota uses the exact same system, in fact on the Camry, Solara, and the Sienna they use the same motorized screen that the ES has. I can't imagine a Toyota Camry owner forking out $350 for an update disk, it must be priced lower. It may say "Toyota" at startup instead of "Lexus" but if its $200 less thats a small price to pay...
  5. Be sure to keep me updated, I want to do it too ;)
  6. You need an orbital buffer like the Porter Cable, with that and the right pads you can remove most surface imperfections with higher grade polishes.
  7. Definately replace those interior filters... Cigarette smoke is one of the hardest odors to get out of a car, have cleaned all the ashtrays well? The only way to perminantly remove it is to have the interior of the car ozone fogged. Look thgrough your yellow pages and find a detailer that specifies in odor removal, he or she should have an ozone machine. They'll seal the car up and let this thing run inside and it will nutralize all the odors. It will smell brand new inside. Shouldnt be too expensive either...
  8. Steve, you meant to say CL, right???!!! steviej Yes I did! LOL oops, all fixed ;)
  9. Looks to me like the cover just snaps on...
  10. As far as I know it doesn't come with any instructions, Hang on let me go out here and look at mine and I'll tell you what I see...
  11. I think those sunroof wind deflectors are tacky at best. JMHO. As for spoilers you might be surprised, look through the gallery at some of the members who have spoilers...
  12. I wouldn't do that. Especially since the car is under warranty still, I would definately get everything looked at while it still is... Especially since these noises started after a service, it should be a free stop...
  13. Take the VIN # to any Lexus dealership and they can pull the maintenance history. That will let you know what services were done at any Lexus or Toyota dealer. One thing that concerns me is those wheels. Those are SC400 wheels, typically these wheels have offset problems when installed on the ES because the ES is FWD, and the SC is RWD. Sometimes it requires the use of spacers. I would pull a wheel off and look, if they've been using spacers than there could be premature wear on the hub and suspension components. The car looks to be in okay shape in the pictures, the paint is a little rough...
  14. The voice is the same (I like her too lol) and the upgrade is so easy you wont even need instructions. Just take the old disc out, put the new one in, and push "OK" a few times on the nav screen. All your saved locations, calendar information etc are carried over. The only reason NOT to upgrade is the cost.
  15. The only problem is that different areas have different gas chains. For instance, no Arco, 76, or Olympian here. All Texacos here are now Shells (which will eventually happen everywhere) and we just now have BP after they bought Amoco. Then we have Exxon, Chevron (Rare), Mobil (same as Exxon), and increasingly a chain called "Liberty". I know steviej will chime in on this so I'll let him explain it but basically all brand name gas is pretty much the same, with a can of additives added. Generally its best for the motor if you skip around gas types.
  16. Leatherique is an excellent leather restoration product...
  17. Check out www.cellport.com they make a great professionally installed handfree kit. Great thing about it is its upgradeable when you change phones. The website has a full list of compatible phones and some Lexus dealers even do the installs. Really and truly though, the easiest way is just to get an earpiece. You can get a nice one with a button on it to activate the phone for like $20.
  18. Theres really no way to guard against it, just gotta clean it off.
  19. Sounds like you have my luck. That kinda crap always happens to me too...
  20. If it was 96 it had to be a GS300, there was no GS400 until 1998. It could still be a little quicker than your 92 LS. Bear in mind here I'm talking about the second gen GS here (98-05) The GS and LS are totally different cars, and when you drive them back to back you'll see that there really is no comparison between them. Not a bad thing for either car as they each fill a different niche. The GS is sportier, has more road and wind noise (it is not as aerodynamic as even the first generation LS) more feedback, stiffer suspension, throatier engine and exhaust note. Its a common complaint about the GS that they have uncomfortable front seats. Though the LS400/430 and the GS400/430 share the same engines and transmissions, the GS430 is faster. This is partly due to the fact that the GS is lighter (but its actually not much lighter) but mostly due to the fact that the GS has a freer flowing exhaust. Drive em both and see what you think!
  21. As I see it about the K&N theres nothing dangerous about it. I don't read CL's forums but let me guess, somebody over there has told you it allows smaller particles through its matrix than a paper filter? If you were driving a formula one race car that would be a problem, not a problem on the ES300. I've never gotten one because I don't think I'd like the added intake noise. I say get one, if you don't like the noise they'll let you return it. One thing you'll quickly learn about CL is that its their way or the highway, and a simple discussion like this can quickly downspiral into a huge snafoo resulting in a closed thread and banned members. That doesn't happen here LOL. We don't allow it, but really our membership is so respectful of each other our site really moderates itself. Generally the Toyota transmission fluid is expressly designed for the Toyota transmissions. Its a very good, high technology fluid that is long lasting. If you have transmission problems down the road you'll always be in better standing with Lexus if you've used the Toyota fluid. I remember several cases of members encountering transmission and shifting irregularities after switching to the synthetic fluid...
  22. You have to work it into the paint with straight lines until its almost gone then wipe off. It is a good product, but removal by hand will only work for light defects.
  23. 6 parts water to 1 part woolite. There's a color on the LS and SC called "Ecru" that is almost white, the discoloration drives them INSANE... Good luck!
  24. What incorrect information? You should correct it ;)
