  1. Not the case on my ES300, but I will check my dads 04 LS when I get a chance...
  2. I wouldnt use the synthetic transmission fluid, I would stick with Toyota's fluid. Also only use Toyota's coolant. Welcome to the club! Couple changes to make to Lat's post: The 01 has Iridium plugs, no idea who makes them. And you dont have to worry about the needles burning out on the 01, they use different needles than his 95.
  3. Check out http://store.yahoo.com/parkplacelexus/
  4. You mean it resists being shifted? There is merit to having the engine, transmission, brake and power steering flushed, but this is something to be considered around 100,000 miles to clean from deposits, at 38,000 miles this would be extreme overkill. They're definately trying to take your money. The TPS Sensor very well could be the problem, and no that wouldn't be covered under the warranty. I agree, second opinion. Welcome to the LOC!
  5. This is actually a Lexus feature, and one my ES doesn't have LOL ;) LS, GS, RX, GX all do this. In order to defeat it simply turn the dimmer knob all the way up until it clicks. What its doing is dimming the gauges when it detects a drop in outside light to keep from blinding you. Bear in mind that when you turn it up the gauges will be at full intensity at night also.
  6. Tan interior right? Or maybe grey? This is very common and it is happening because Lexus has switched to an uncoated leather. Its a higher quality leather than in your friend's Volvo which has a coated leather, leather sprayed with a clearcoat. Unfortunately a lot of times higher quality means more delicate. Its actually pretty easy to clean off, just mix up some Woolite and Water in a spray bottle, dilluted 6:1 and spray it liberally onto the seat, spread it wround with your hands and let it work for a minute or so, then wipe the seat off with a damp cloth and dry with a dry one. May take a few tries but it will come off. I've even heard in a few rare cases where its so bad Lexus will replace the leather.
  7. One of these days ;)
  8. Ah okay, I misunderstood your figures, they make sense now.
  9. Yep, those are HIDs ;)
  10. Its worth a shot, I've tried this before though with limited success...
  11. I only have one tip! lol :P Actually I think SOS pads may be #00 Steel Wool...
  12. Nope Toyota is completely dropping the inline 6. All the 6 cyl. models are going to be the 3.3. I thought the same about the new ES, but now I think its one of the best looking sedans around. Lexus styling grows, which in a way is better than it looking amazing at first, that initial lust fades and you're left with a design thats ho-hum, like the new E Class or the S Class. The GS still looks great today, the slowly warming styling works out for them.
  13. Cool! Always wanted to go to europe...
  14. The Laser Wash is the creme de la creme of the touchless washes, it does a very good job. There is one in Ocean City, MD but none around here unfortunately. We have two kinds here, one like the Laser Wash but it has two wands, and one conveyor type that uses rotating water sprayers. The thing with road salt is that if the temp is below freezing, it cannot even corrode bare metal it becomes inert. Thats a big problem for treating the roads, but a plus for a car owner. If it wafts above freezing it is active and acting on your paint. The paint isn't as big a deal, but the undercarriage and wheel wells are. I would run your car through a touchless or at least pressure spray the undercarriage once a week during the winter. Remember that during the winter its not really about the car looking good, its about keeping it as salt free as possible.
  15. Well, on 95 today my windshield met a rock. Not bad. small chip and a small bullseye right in the center of the windshield. I'm very anal about chips and cracks in the windshield though and will have to get it replaced...once winter's over. They dump gravel on the highways here...on purpose. Just wanted to vent ;)
  16. And they charge 2 or 300 to install it... $288 is even expensive. Maybe someone on ebay sells them...
  17. I don't buy it, the type of drive makes no difference in the stopping ability of the car. Sure, all season vs. winter will make a difference, but AWD vs FWD? Shouldn't. You agree with this fact, but your data shows otherwise, I don't get it... As for winter tires, sure I agree that if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, then yeah winter tires are worth it. But if you get snow even just on a monthly basis, in all honesty all season are better. You talk about the minuses of all season tires in the snow, but what about the minuses of winter tires in the wet or the dry? Dry traction is radically reduced with winter tires (this is getting less so) and rolling resistance is dramatically increased. If you have no snow more days than snow, then I reccomend you stick with all seasons.
  18. No, and actually Lexus has all but stopped producing the GS430, and GS300 production numbers are way down...
  19. LOL, everybody thinks their model is the best. Trust me, car comes out it'll be a resounding success ;)
  20. I have the Edmunds price book for every year since 1994 or so and the 2000 brochure ;) I'll look it up for you, I just have to find the right book.
  21. Good idea...I'll call the girl who sold me mine too lol
  22. Agreed, I've driven both and my dad has the 04 with the 17s. Couple reasons not to get the 18s- 1. It limits your option choices, no Ultra Luxury package if thats what you want, which limits your color choices. 2. it does ride firmer. Still well, but if you dont care about handling then why take any degredation at all? 3. Tires will last half as long and cost twice as much. Again, since you dont care about the handling why spend more for degredation of something you don't want? I say Ultra Luxury with the air suspension, 17 inch wheels ;)
  23. Your insurance SHOULD cover the glass replacement... Do a search in the LS forum, there was a big discussion about windshield replacement a while ago. Your insurance should pay no fault, and you can make them pay for genuine Lexus glass so the thickness and tint match. A lot of times aftermarket windshields have distortions and such. Genuine Lexus glass will cost over $1000.
  24. I've got 900 miles to go before service, so sometime in the next two weeks I'll know.
  25. May be worth it, we should see what kind of deal we can cut for it. Some dealers will give it away for free if you claim the disc doesn't work properly. Worth a try.
