  1. No, it just means the phone will only work on the 1800 frequency and may not have as full coverage as it would if it could move back and forth.
  2. You're right, the Wrangler does today doesn't it?
  3. Or he may have just changed the taillights and headlights to make it look like a newer one.
  4. Yeah thats definately an LX470. Damn thats wild...
  5. What Jim is saying is Cingular is still capable of supporting TDMA hardware. Companies can't just switch what they run overnight you have past customers with phones that they aren't interested in upgrading. This is why Sprint and Verizon can share phones for instance, Sprinmt upgraded to 3G but they still provide service for their old 1X phones. They legally must do this, it was big news a couple years ago when carriers were finally allowed to start dismantling their Analog networks.
  6. There IS a fix for the "going 40" problem, the reflash will fix that. The throttle lag is the way it is though, this is never going to be resolved. We were just talking about this on the Autopia detailing board, owners of MANY car companies vehicles were complaining of the same problem.
  7. Army- Sprint still supports the older 1x and 2x CDMA phones that they've sold in the past though. You would simply be unable to access features like their Vision service (which is no catastrophe trust me). I know several people who have conned each company to activate the other's phones and they work fine. Take a company like Alltell then, exactly the same as Verizon yet Verizon won't activate their phones (Alltell has the V710 with fully intact Bluetooth.) And no, Motorola isn't responsible for the deactivation of the Bluetooth features on the V710, if anything they're just another victim of VZW's bullying tactics.
  8. Oh sure, they still have to support the older TDMA systems. Thats the drawback of the GSM coverage. Their customer support, equipment, pricing are all much more attractive than the CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint, but the GSM coverage just dies if you're out of a certain range. Thats the only thing keeping me from hopping onboard with Cingular. I don't travel out of metro areas a lot but I do occasionally (my family IS from WV), and when I do not having ANY service even roaming is not attractive. I really don't think Cingular would be able to support a CDMA phone though.
  9. I realize you're trying to sell yourself on a new car, but your ES is hardly going to have zero value if you hold onto it. At that age the value is pretty constant. Nothing wrong with having some savings, Americans have this idea that they have to spend every dollar they have as soon as it comes in. Play around with some investments, start up a college fund for your new baby, pay down your mortgage, etc. I just see no reason to trade out of a car you know the history of and back into something just as old thats much more expensive to repair (i.e. an LS). Gotta have priorities. That car will run another 100k miles if you keep it in good repair. Cars like the S class and LS (especially the S class my god) will cost more to service at times then they're worth. They are very expensive. I can understand the desire for a new car, but its not going to be a "wise" purchase decision. You've got to do it because its what you want to do.
  10. Lets say the vehicle is between $55,000 and $60,000. Its closest competition is the BMW X5, the Cadillac SRX, the Infiniti FX45, and the Porsche Cayenne. Here's the breakdown: X5 Price: $60,000 0-60: 6.9 MPG: 16/22 SRX Price: $58,140 0-60: 6.4 MPG: 15/20 FX-45 Price: $54000 0-60: 6.4 MPG: 15/19 Porsche Cayenne Price: $68,760 0-60: 6.9 MPG: 14/18 So, lets say the RX400h is between 55k and 60k, with performance around a conservative 0-60 of 7 seconds and MPG nearly twice what all those vehicles get in the city and nice gains on the highway, how can you say the RX400h is underpowered in its market? Looks dead on to me. As for size, the RX is larger inside (far larger actually) than every vehicle on that list save MAYBE the SRX. What you've got to remember is that the electric motos afford much more torque, the hp number that is lower than the competition isn't as meaningful.
  11. How is a vehicle that does 0-60 between high 6s and low 7s underpowered for its class?
  12. Like I've said elsewhere, Verizon will never unlock the ability to transfer phonebooks because it would also allow the ability to transfer files.
  13. Well the car comes with a full size spare on the same rim. Interesting the tire is missing, thats $150 right there. You can try polishing the wood with anything you can use to polish the paint. I'd try some Klasse AIO.
  14. Thats the old model, the white one in my pictures in the thread is the all new model that goes on sale this month. I think everyone is getting too into looking for similarities between cars. All you hear nowadays is "This car looks just like that car" or whatever. Well folks, they're all cars how different can they look? You can't make a car that looks too different or people won't buy it...
  15. Yes you can definately special order a car, they can even paint them any Lexus color even colors not availiable on that model. You just have to be prepared to wait 4-6 months and pay closer to sticker price.
  16. No it doesn't matter where they're sold, odds are they were bought at auction. email me the photos to swithrow03@yahoo.com and I'll post them for you.
  17. You are absolutely right, my mistake.
  18. A Sprint phone won't work on the Cingular network, totally different types of service Sprint is CDMA and Cingular is GSM. I think you're outta luck here.
  19. I just don't see it, I mean they have a passing family resemblence which is to be expected but I think "are the same car" is really a stretch. The new GS is really striking, where the Avalon still looks kind of awkward.
  20. Thats common, a lot of time its from people either using cleaners that dull the wood or using hand lotions that cloud it. Nothing you can do about it, I doubt the dealer will fix it, and you don't want to know how much one of those wheels costs (almost $3000). Now, you could have it redone somewhere aftermarket like American Stitches for less.
  21. Who was it that had cloth on an older LS and misses it on a newer one, was it Jim (1990LS400)?
  22. Army- I would have but the issue is being WITHOUT the phone! I wanted it repaired while I waited to minimize the problem. As for the company, yes the manufacturer does it but at the order of the cell carrier. Thats the difference between the US and say, Japan. In Japan the cell carriers have no say over what phones you can have, as long as they operate on the correct bandwidth. Carriers here decide what hardware you have access to and what features they're going to support. Why should Verizon have the right to say you can't use a feature that has NOTHING to do with their service? Its like selling you a computer and saying you can't save to a disk. That all files must be sent through the company's web server at a cost to you. Thats why we don't get all the cool features phones have in other countries, because we only get what the cell carriers decide to pick up and they're very careful about new technologies (like Bluetooth) that they can't charge you for based on your use. The latest thing they've done to the V710 is disable the transflash card slot. If you have your phone updated at verizon they (unbeknownst to you) disable this feature on YOUR PHONE, AFTER YOU'VE BOUGHT IT. Why do they do this? To make you pay to transfer files over their network. This is like Lexus deciding you don't need to listen to CDs anymore when you're in for an oil change and disconnecting your CD changer without telling you. I give the examples because people need to think of cell phones as what they are, your property. These companies are messing with your property and brainwashing you into thinking they have the right to do that.
  23. This is the type of headlamp used in modern cars, INCLUDING your Lincoln: As you can see its just a big peice of plastic, when a bulb burns out you pull the bulb out of the back, replace it, and pop it back in. THIS is a sealed beam headlamp: Where the whole lens glass and all gets replaced like a floodlight bulb. I can't think of a US spec car made after 1997 or so that had sealed beam headlamps, really it became uncommon after 1990 or so. LOL, what did you think when a headlight burns out on your Lincoln you go down to the Lincoln dealer and pay $400 for one of these:? No, you buy a bulb to go INSIDE it.
  24. Its not a "sealed beam headlamp" like you're thinking of LOL, its just a lamp assembly with holes for bulbs like Army said. With the bulbs out all it is is a hunk of plastic. People do this all the time. Cars haven't used sealed beam headlights in 10 years. Rain X won't do anything as it doesn't have any cleaning agents. Who'se the dope? B)
