  1. I bought my 94 LS with about 156k on the clock about 4 months ago. The car had Bridgestone Turanzas that tooked like they had NEVER been run on. They were BRAND new. Since the purchase i have put about 10,000 miles on my car and have not had a single problem. You said that your neighbor was having a problem balancing these tires? If he/she doesn't drive on the highway for too long or even at all then thats probably why they seem out of balance. Here is an example of what I mean. It is really hard to word properly what i am trying to explain but here it goes. Just bare with me. I took a road trip to California from North Carolina. It took 3 days to get there. I stopped and slept for 2 nights. When i got up the second day and third day and got in the car to start driving again, the tires seemed to be out of balance. After driving for a few minutes the vibration went away. This vibration was by no means overly disturbing would have had no problem if it never went away. Apparently, tires are made out of "special rubber" (dont know how to explain it) that can kind of go with the flow of gravity and some of the mass of the tire can "run" to the bottom when sitting for a long time (i.e. over night). I don't know if you know too much about tires but tires used to not be steel belted. Tires today have steel belts to prevent this "sagging" of the rubber. Steel belted tires may still have some "sagging" like I experienced. I dont know if all tires do this to the extent of the Turanza but what probably happened is that as i started moving at a high rate of speed again the tires "rebalanced themselves" as the rubber moved back to where it was supposed to be. Maybe your neighbor wasn't on the highway for long enough for the problem to fix itself like mine did. Anyway, I would highly reccomend the Turanza but then again maybe i got the only good set ;). Hope this helps in your search for a good tire. Thats my 2 cents! btw, the treadwear is excellent, they are rather grippy in dry & rain & even in snow, great ride, and road noise is minimal.
  2. 90LS400Lexus, actually im only 17. back in the mid 90s i was much too young to be working at Lexus. ;)
  3. probably, what happens if it does?
  4. im kinda interested in a conversion too. i DO NOT plan on doing it any time soon knowing as how i have no money saved up and dont think i will any time soon. Does anyone have any idea what kind of price tag something like this would carry(parts and labor)? even a ballpark estimate would do.
  5. I bought a 94 LS a few months back and got a pre-purchase inpection at the dealer. They told me that the PS pump was leaking and b/c i was a looking at this forum i knew that the PS pump leaked directly on to the alternator (design flaw i guess). I got that fixed by the dealer i bought the car from before purchase. A few weeks ago when i was stopped for a while at a red light or something, the radio would start to die, battery, trac, abs lights would come on. when i hit the gas everything would come back to life. i thought it was the alternator but turned out to be the battery. it had 2 bad cell. Moral of the story is that when i talked to a Lexus tech about my electronic problems, he said that if the PS fluid leaking on the alternator was the culprit, it isn't always going to be immediate. He said takes a while for the oil to work its way into the alternator and fry it. For example, the PS pumb could be leaking for a month, then fixed, and the altenator might not go bad for a year or more. Hope this helps, just dont end up like the guy 90LS400Lexus described with the fire under the hood. That would SUCK!!! P.S. check out my avatar. gotta love that exaust glowing red on my 1UZ-FE!!
  6. DEFINATELY get that airbag light checked out if u care about the airbag going off should u be in an accident. If you really dont care about airbags, dont worry about getting that checked out.
  7. I dont have one....how do i go about getting one?
  8. I have a 94 LS and when i first bought the car the chirping/beeping was REALLY quiet. I was bored one day and looked through the owners manual and found on one of the first few pages a diagram. It is located right near the hood release. it is a small black knob just like the volume for a radio, but way smaller, smaller than a dime. If you turn it all the way one way it clicks off and turn it the other way and that is all the way up. I hope this helps. try this b4 goin to the dealer.
  9. Sounds good guys, glad i am getting some suport. Wow, I totally didn't even realize that I typed "SW". Is there any way to change it to "SE"? I would really like the meet to be in NC but then again thats kinda selfish. TN sounds good too. Thanks all for all your support and everything else. Now all we need is someone who has the power to make this whole thing happen. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thx again 1uzfe
  10. I am gonna have to agree with silvermate. Those rims look kinda cheap to me, but do whatever you want to do. Its your car and its whatever you like.
  11. I live in Raleigh, NC and would love it if a LOC/BMW/MB came my way. I believe that there are a bunch of LOC members in this part of the country and would like to attend. All in favor of this idea please post here and say YES!! Then all we need it someone to organize it. Thx in advance.
  12. On my 94 LS the kick panel fuse box thing is best accessed if you get out of the car, stick your head where you feet should be while driving (near the pedals, i hope) and look up. i think that there is a cover but i was only in there once. To figure out which fuse goes to which device, u must use the diagram in the manual and i think theres a diagram on the back of the fuse box cover. Once again, the "kick panel" fuse box IS in the car, just under the dashboard. I hope this helps 1uz-fe
  13. air filter is in good condition bought about 5k miles ago. just filled up today and have to wait till empty to get gas milage. will get back to you about milage.
  14. Lex3486, i own a 94 LS with almost 165,000 mi on it. my car is rather fast once you are moving. from a stop the LS is a dog. next time you test drive an LS try this: go about 25 mph and STOMP on the gas pedal. Im not sure if you are aware of the "button" under the gas pedal. You said you were going about 25-30 and floored it and it didn't downshift to first gear right? It will if you FLOOR the gas. you can push the gas pedal down to when it feels like it stops and then push even harder. dont be afraid of breaking anything. also remember the LS's gas pedal is hinged on the floor and not at the top of the gas pedal so push with your toes at the very top of the pedal. The pedal should "click" down and back up when u let off. This will definatly throw you back in the seat right around 25 mph. Dont think that the LS is slow. it only is from a start. heres an example: I was with 2 friends in my LS at a light. Next to me pulls up a red IS300 with texas plates. it was an automatic and i know this b/c i work at the lexus dealer and remember driving this specific car (not too many red Is300's from TX in NC) the light turns green and we both floor it. He got a pretty good jump from a start b/c the LS weighs 2 tons. At 60 mph we were even and i was moving past him quick. We raced up to 115 mph at which point i saw him drop off quickly when he realized he was SLOW. I was easily 10 car lenghts ahead of him when he quit. Please reconsider the LS. I bet you that you wont regret it.
  15. blake, so you're saying that you have very good tires and u can spin from a stop and maybe a little chirp into 2nd? if thats the case then i MUST be missing HP and need to so wires, cap and rotor. i mean thats all thats left right? so far i have done plugs and throttle body cleaning. I wish i could do the things you say you can do in your LS. BTW, did u clock any of your 0-60 runs? if so, what time did u get? thats an even better guage of power. thx all for your input. i really appreciate it
  16. how long ago did this happen? i am from NC but recently drove to CA and found a ladder in the fast lane. this was a month or 3 weeks ago about. just wondering if it is the same ladder. The area where this ladder was, is that where there are a bunch of electricy generator wind things? just wondering.
  17. I am not just talking about a noise coming from the rear tires i mean spinning in general.
  18. I'd say 98: more HP!!
  19. blake, your car is a 95 which has 270 HP right? my car is a 94 with 250 HP i believe. i have bridgestone turanzas on all 4 and they have under 5,000 miles on them. what kind of tires do you have and how old are they. maybe im trying too hard to chirp worrying about me lacking performance and it just turns out to be good vs. bad tires. either that or they fact that my car has 20 HP less. so, i guess im looking for more 1st gen owners who can chirp. thats a better guage for me and what kind of tires they have. IF YOU HAVE A GEN 1 AND CAN CHIRP TIRES FROM A START POST HERE AND TELL ABOUT UR TIRES TOO. thx
  20. can someone move this to the RX forum.
  21. pretty much the whole topic is an eye catcher. "Big problem" is definately a must see, "wife" and "*****" also caught my attention b/c it suggests your significant other caused you a problem and you're calling her names!! hope this input helps
  22. blake, I want both performance and mpg. dont we all?? I am getting crap milage (12-15 mpg city). My performance is pretty good once im moving. I have driven other LS's at the lexus dealer after i detail them and most if not all could atleast spin 1 tire on dry pavement. i can only spin a tire from a stop when i first start it and the rpms are about 1500. i can also spin in the rain sometimes and obviously in the dirt. i just want better mpg and a little better performance. thx for all of your inputs guys.
  23. wow. very good lookin. you have great taste. i bet that car really handles well now. on a scale of 1-10 i give them a 20. lookin good.
  24. Yesterday i changed my spark plugs out on my 94 LS with the exact right plugs from the lexus dealer. I expected this to change the performance of my car atleast a little. IT DIDN'T!! I have never spun a tire for even a second on the pavement with my car. Yes yes yes, i know its not a sports car but i know i am missing HP other people have. My car has about 162,000 on it now. The original plug wires with 1994 stamped on them are still on the car. could this one thing be the culprit? i just cleaned my throttle body about a week ago too. HELP!!
  25. you mentioned the Cigarette Outlets are not working. My 94 also had this problem. When I just bought it I really didn't care about the problem but about a month ago i decided to check it out. I looked in the owners manual and found the fuse for the cigarette outlets and pulled it out to see if it had blown out. The fuse appeared to be fine so i simply put the same fuse in the same hole where it came out from. Apparently, when i first got the car and tried to use the rear lighter, i pushed it in and it never popped out since it never got hot. when i started the car after looking at the fuse still wondering what the problem could be i heard a pop noise and looked behind me and saw that the lighter had popped out and was glowing red. both outlets/lighters now work great. hope this helps
