  1. Can you move it to that section, and btw where is that section on this site. Right here.
  2. I'm going to ask you to keep the banter out and keep politics out of this. I've been reading the same thread you have and other than where he/she is from, no one has brought up any foreign observations than you. With that being said, the points you make about how dangerous this is are very valid. Not to mention a slew of other issues your dealing with here.
  3. Alright guys, let's keep this conversation civil. ASE techs and regular people alike can come here to learn a few things from others experiences. I already knew the answer to the question I asked , I was just trying to find out how much you knew about freon systems first. I've always been straight out of the book when it comes to certian systems like a/c. But I hear alot of talk by others mixing down R134 and adding what sounds to me like crazy gases to produce better results. But when I talk to whom I consider to be HVAC pros, who have been in this feild for 20+ years I always hear the same answer. Don't mess with it. We've allways figured if it was that safe, and that great to use, then why wouldn't the developing engineers just use that instead. There must be some trade off/risk that makes those results not worth it. Does anyone here have experience with the new Puron systems? or 410a?
  4. Yeah, but I think it's more trouble than it's worth. You have to get a Lexus immobilizer bypass system installed first. That disables the security system that contains an internal "Kill switch" in the event the car is attempting to start without the key fob in range to verify the start sequence. Then they have to bypass the brake sensor. I think it's to much to give up and your just buying some problems. The stock security system in these cars aren't a seperate unit anymore. They're actually inergrated into the main CPU. I don't know if messing around with that is a very good idea yet. I think they may eventually come out with something, but everything I have seen so far isn't there yet.
  5. Soooo, i recovered about one can of R12, dropped in one can of R134a and guess what, the system is back to live. ICCCCCCE cold. The compressor is still fine, even though the system was running with that mixture for years and there was absolutely no residue in the hoses and pipes. I tought this might be interesting for anybody having a R12 system with low refrigerant level. The only problem i see is that the R134a might cause corrosion, i read somewhere that this might be an issue. But again, on my LS it did not cause any problem so far. I have to replace some O-rings soon and will switch to a Hydrocarbon Refrigerant. It seems that the energy savings are amazing. Already bought 5kg of R290 and R600a these two mixed at the correct ratio 80/20 should deliver a nice result. Will post the outcome later :o Ok, but that covers an R12 ac system with R134a added to it, but what about an R134a system and your adding R12 to it?
  6. Your drivetrain isn't like the Ford's of days gone by where you can just pound on it. There are harmonic balancers located on your flywheel which are designed to prevent damage to the transmission. If you say the transmission pros say your clutch and trans are fine, then you may need to reset the ECU by unplugging the battery for 10-15 minutes and then reconnecting it. Once you restart it, let it idle for a few minutes and then go for another ride and see if that restores it.
  7. Did you notice the info sources? Cool! They list our forum, Club Lexus and MY IS. I think that's a huge compliment. :)
  8. I haven't really been able to make up my mind about this yet to be honest. BMW, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Lexus and a few others all have the sealed transmissions now. It's really hard to argue with that many engineers. They all seem to agree this is the way to go, and more and more are going this way. I mean, as hard as it is to beleive, I also would have never thought that car makers would be able to reliably engineer a naturally asperated stock 300+ hp V6. I remember when we were chasing the 1 hp per cubic inch dream. So anything is very possible when they say it's better to just leave the transmission alone. Let's not forget that the cooling system went thru this same morph years back. There was a time when you should have changed the antifreeze yearly. Now it's almost maintenance free as well. I do know one thing though, have you looked into how much the transmission fluid costs per quart yet? LOL!! That might change your mind about doing a tranny flush. LOL!!
  9. I've had my 2006 IS350 for 2 months now and i just noticed this sound. It does it like every 10 or so startup's, it's very weird. It also make it nearly impossible to show the dealer as you never know when it's going to happen. My car just his 40k too. At first I also thought something was caught in the radiator fan. It's the Vvti. There's a position that they can come to rest in when you turn the car off and it gets cold, then restart it and it causes them to rattle. There's a TSB out on it. Tell your tech and they will keep the car for a few days and try to get it ot do it for them. Once they determine it is doing it, they have a kit put together, but it does take a couple days to get done, so you'll be without your ride for awhile. But I would only have them replace the Vvti system if you really have to. They literally have to take your entire engine's top end out to get it done. That isn't something you want them to do so you can have a new part on your motor. There's nothing like a factory sealed motor. Once you open it, "things" just don't fit back together right, or the same. And later "other" things start happening.
  10. I don't know, it sound like more of an issue than that. Idle is controlled by the ECU. Your only in the open loop mode for about 2 minutes at most. It's in complete control of idle and light load transitions. Can you make this happen under curtian circumstances? You may need to replicate it for the tech to experience what your saying is going on.Then they can look at the ECU reports and see if anything is logged to find out what is causing this.
  11. Here's what I would do, first, get a friends ipod and connect it and see if it sounds better. Both thru the aux and the interface. If it sounds the way it should, then it's your ipod. If it sounds just as bad as before then I would take the car in and have them first check the interface connection to make sure it's connected right , and then if needed replace the head unit. There are several internal electronic filters and audio shaper circuits that may for some reason not be calibrated right or just set to defective levels from the mfgr. I have an 08, and the ipod interface sounds great. the stereo used to be the first thing I would rip out and replace with an aftermarket unit, but not with this set up. I did add some peripheral hardware though like a bass amp and larger sub, but that's been it.
  12. Different strokes for different folks. I've owned pretty much everything. And at that time in my life it was the right car for me to have. When I was young, and single, I owned 69 Camaro's, 72 Cuda's, and Turbo'd Grand Nationals. Not exactly the cars you want to be driving long distances. But my priorities were different then. If I ever have kids and need to take them to soccer practice and get the groceries, I might consider an RX or some SUV that fit the bill. Right now, I need a car that I can sport around in, take mom and the wife out to dinner on Friday nights with, throw my golf clubs in the back on Saturdays, jump from business meeting to business meeting, and still be able to take long trips to Miami and back in. The IS C would never work for me. So your perfection is not the same as mine. I love the IS 350 as a sedan. What Lexus has done with that car is nothing short of amazing for it's class and price range. Not to take anything away from the IS C. I do like that car as well. Of course, it looks just like the IS 250/350 but shorter. (I'm still working out the rear section when the top is up though. I'm not to sure about that yet.)
  13. I think so to. To my knowledge, no dealer selling any make does transmission work.
  14. I think a wind visor for the sunroof would fix the wind buffet issue your having. When I added an adjustable suspension to my 350 I lowered it and leveled the suspenion height. Now I can have the sunroof open and all the windows closed while cruising at 70 with no problem. I would imagine that the 250 AWD models would probably have a tougher issue as they have to be a bit higher and I've noticed a bit more uneven as a result. The sound quality issue your having....does it sound ok if you use the auxilary input from the center console? what interface unit are you using?
  15. "They" is the operative word above. I'm sure JustFlyin meant the transmission wasn't "dealer serviceable", not that the original manufacturer, sub manufacturer, or specialty house couldn't open it and service it. I bet Lexus has a cost/benefit analysis for all parts to determine whether it should be repaired or replaced when it is on their dime. Wait, hold up here. "They" in this case is Lexus. Correct? Lexus doesn't service thier transmissions, but will warrentee someone elses work on rebuilding a transmission they make. So my point is the transmissions are servicable, just not by the dealer. They have a swap service. The trans they take out goes to the place that does the rebuild, and you get someone else's rebuilt tranny in it's place. It's actaully a smart program.
  16. For your stereo issue, I don't think they are connected to each other, so you should be fine. You might want to look up DCfish here on the forums. He's an authorized vendor for Lexus OEM electronics. He may be able to help you out there.
  17. I would post this question in the detailing forum and ask the proffesional detailers that frequent our forums for an answer on this. If you want I can move this topic there as it really should be in there anyway.
  18. Welcome to the LOC. You need a new key. They are programmed to the code in the ECU. It's going to cost you more than you want to spend, but that's the price of security with the ease of remote control today. You may want to start with the dealer. That's going to be the easiest route, but not the least expensive by far.
  19. From your description of the engine, I would venture to guess that your not a tech yourself. You have to resset the ECU. Your probably in limp mode right now. It's a safety mode the ECU goes into to protect the motor from further damage. But the issue is if you resset the ECU< you also erase information that was logged so the proper tech can find out what and why this is going on. My advice is to take it to someone who specializes in Toyota/Lexus. The 2JZGE motors and ECU's have been around long enouph now that any competent tech should be able to diagnose and fix your issue. With out being able to check over the work that was done to the motor, and look at the adjustments and read a scanner we're just shooting at pigeons in the dark here. This could be as simple as a vacuume hose that wasn't put back on tight and fell off, or your timing belt jumped , or your IACV is stuck or not working, etc. etc. etc.
  20. Yeah, but you aren't getting any codes off the cel other than misfire 123? The IACV also controls the Vvti. And while we'r e there, the car is timed correctly? I mean your sure it is right? Your mechanic knows what he's doing? You're sure?
  21. Another great job Armyof1. Make sure you tell the guy to buy the missing lugnuts also! Why would you spend all that money on tires like those and not have the all lugnuts on it? Some people! LOL!!
  22. Man I'm tired just lookin at all that work! My arms started screaming at me for the thoughts just contemplating that big truck! Dang!!!! LOL!! Great job though! The before and after is really eye opening!
