  1. I had a similar problem on my 91 LS, turned out that the rack was shot, replaced for 2k at the local toyota dealer. The steering would die at extreme right turns and thats it, but over time it started to die randomly, until it was undrivable.
  2. There have been previous posts on this topic. Personally I replaced my speakers when they stopped working with 4 inch pioneer speakers they weren't a perfect fit, but i would suggest taking your door panels off and checking the size before buying anything.
  3. I just recently discussed this issue, I broke mine when i pulled up on it not too long ago. I had it replaced at a body shop for $315, matched and installed.
  4. Well, I took the LS down to my local body shop, they quoted me 350 for a new assembly installed and matched. I spoke with the head of the shop, ive done bussiness with them before on several occasions, they do great work (cosmetically at least). The handle is on order, he said that he's has seen this before, he claimed that someone may have tried to steal my car or somebody put way too much pressure on it. I'm the one who broke it, I wasnt putting any huge amount of pressure on it! I think 350 is really steep but I have to have a door handle, oh well another 350 to keep the LS happy!
  5. I went to open my driver side door tonight and the handle seemed to pull too far. I broke what seems like half of it. Now when i open the door (still can) it is very difficult to pull the handle and it scrapes steel on steel. then when i let go of it, it doesnt sit flush with the door anymore! HELP, if i cant open my drivers door the car is junk! What can i do, i dont want to risk breaking it anymore! I've had nothing but problems this year, im ready to just toss it, if this stupid handle cant be fixed easily and cheaply, then im afraid the car is going to have to go.
  6. Just today I had everything taken apart to fix my rear speakers, I took a look at the amp first, just looking for signs of damage(water, corrosion, broken wires). I couldnt find anything, it looked completly fine, so I resorted to taking my rear door panels off. I couldnt believe it, both of my rear speakers stopped working at the same time, both looked fine but simply dont work! I replaced the rear speakers with the same speakers i put in the front doors. I now have all new two way speakers and it sounds great! The front speakers that are mounted up by the window, are just component tweeters, Ive found them to be quiet and dull, so i installed 2 way speakers. They probably are working but dont really give you much effect. I cant help you too much with the sub, you might try a multimeter to see if the amp is producing any power, just a suggestion. Ive heard that its a common problem that the paper cone of the sub deteriorated over the years because of its location where it bakes in the sun. So check the power output, pop the cover and look at the sub. There are replacement directions at http://www.lexls.com/tutorials.html
  7. The rear speakers may be a problem with your amp, might be lose or corroded connections, the amp is located under he changer. The instructions for removal can be found at http://carstereohelp.com/strlexus.htm
  8. I purchased a new master key after I misplaced my second master key. I purchsed one from Swell Lexus (www.lexus-parts.com). I bought the non-remote master key. They cut the key specifically for your Lexus based on the VIN you give them. They required me to supply them with proof that I owned the vehicle, just faxed them one of the documents they requested, it wasn't a problem at all. I recieved the key in just over a week. It works, not much else to say! I was very pleased with Swell Lexus and plan to do bussiness with them again! :)
  9. Where can I find a set of the correct size steel rims?
  10. Well everyone here is a strong beliver of snow tires, should i just get snow tires mounted on the wheels ive got now? Any suggestions for where and what to buy?
  11. A little early but it's going to get down near 30 this weekend in Ohio and I was wondering what amount of weight in the trunk, over the rear axle, was best for traction. Through the winter I always try to keep a full tank of gas and my traction system doesnt always work, not that it really helps that much anyways. I drive in the mornings when they don't always have time to get to all the roads and I need traction! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  12. Great tutorial listed on this members webpage.... http://www.lexls.com/subwoofer.html
  13. Power steering, it finally just died, it got it to the local toyota dealership and they just got back to me that it needs an all new rack and pinion system at a huge price, $1800! Is this an acceptable price for this service? Also I'm a bit concerned about if they know what their doing with my lexus, do the toyota models that they know have similar rack and pinion systems? Is there anything I should ask for, like the old system?
  14. Starting about two days ago whenever I turn the wheel all the way to the the right, almost to the lock the power steering fails, after turning it back and waiting about 5 seconds power comes back without a problem. I was researching the problem and I noticed that when I turn the wheel to the extreme right there is a hissing sound coming from the rack. I think I'm going to clean that screen on the rack next weekend. Has anyone had this problem, any ideas?
  15. I replaced my front door speakers with 4" pioneers, the speaker was just a little small for the opening, but I was able to align them to fit.
  16. You can get cheap replacement keys from lexus-parts.com (swell lexus), I got a new master from them, works beautifully. They have all of the keys you need: the valet and the flat, emergency one. They require your vin # so they can cut the key for your specific car. After I ordered they required me to show proof of ownership, i just faxed my title to them. I seached for quite a while, this was the only place I could get the key at a reasonable price from a reputable seller.
  17. I just got my car back from service at the Toyota Dealer, I had them check out the braking system, $30, and I forgot to give them the special tool to remove the locking lug nuts. Did the dealer rip me off and just bs the whole brake check or did they use their own special tool, do they even have one? Am I wrong in thinking that they needed to remove the wheel to check the brakes?
  18. I got a new key from swell lexus (lexus-parts.com) for only $50 for my 91 ls400. The key works perfectly, all you need to do is provide them with your vin. They will probably require some type of proof of ownership of the vehicle.
  19. On my 91 ls the shiftlock button will allow me to shift the car into any gear, key or no key! I think the later models dont have the button but instead have a slot?
  20. If you can.... Try to salvage some of the accessories if they determine it to be totaled. People want many of those odd accessories!
  21. All I can help you with is that on my 91 LS you have access to the brake light burnout sensor if you remove the back carpet trim piece from your trunk. It may be a broken wire or a loose connection. Theres one on both side, its a little black box with several wires running into a harness. You cant miss it!
  22. Yeah, the same thing happened to my passenger side speaker, just replaced the main speaker and now it sounds even better!, any questions just pm me or post a reply!
  23. the site listed above doesnt have the instruction on how to get the trim up....
  24. I cant get the wood shifter trim up so that i can pull it off. Where do you pull the trim up. Do you pull from the bottom of the shifter, I have heard that you pry the corners up, what corners, and how?
  25. I just want to set up the remote entry, I dont want the alarm system to be active. All I want is the remote to open the trunk (if possible) and to be able to lock/unlock the doors, a beep or horn sounding when I lock it would be nice too, but now I am getting ahead of myself. I like the factory alarm and would like to leave it alone. If anyone has done this, help would be greatly appreciated!
