  1. I hear that the LCD problem is uncommon in the newer LS400's, but 2 out of 3 of the 99's I have seen have the same problem. Very upsetting that something this simple would break on such a great car.
  2. My 1991 LS has some pretty worn seats. The previous owner didn't take care of the leather at all. I had some cheap turtle wax brand leather cleaner/conditioner I used. The seats look better, but nothing amazing. What do you guys use to keep your seats at their peak? Is there a certain product or any special tricks to try?
  3. You cant adjust the lights, I cant even figure out how to replace the bulbs! Is there anyone that can help? Do I really need to remove the batt and air filter?
  4. I hate taking my car to automated car washes, but I definetly wouldn't take it to one that wasn't touchless. I always wash my car by hand. There is alot of talk about salt buildup on the underside and wheel wells of the car. I always get the wheel wells really well but how do i get the under body washed well. Is there a specific place i should spray?
  5. My friends 99 ls400 had a similar problem with the radio LCD. It started like you said, a part of the display worked off and on and more and more faded out with time. Now you cant see anything on the display. Do you think Mikado Technology, the company that fixes the LCD on the 1st gen can also fix this LCD.
  6. Up here in Ohio it snowed 3 inches in like 2 hours, as usual the roads were icy, wet, and slick. It wasn't a problem, the traction control system is amazing on wet and icy roads. When I went to pull onto a snow covered road and my driveway the trac system kicked on and it wouldn't let me go anywhere I just stayed in one place regardless of how much gas I gave it. Naturally I turned traction control off, I was sliding sideways just idleing! What am I supposed to do on snow covered roads does anyone have advice, is the trac system acting up or is that what it is supposed to do?
  7. I havent ever heard of toyota sized speakers. If you look at the link above on how to remove the front speakers it shows that a standard 4 inch speaker doesn't fit perfectly. I think they made a part out of cardboard to make it fit.
  8. Happy Holidays and thanks for all the help you guys have given me.
  9. When I took the battery out did I erase some setting, do i need to reprogram the key or somthing?
  10. I went and got a new battery and the remote worked once or twice. About an hour later the remote wouldn't do a thing. I press the button, regardless of where I stand nothing happens Could I have blown something, please help!
  11. I have a 91 ls400 and my rear speakers haven't worked for years, didn't hear them up front so I didn't fix them. Recently my front passenger speaker went dead it drove me nuts with only one speaker and the sub. I bought a set of 4" speakers to replace the Nakamichi front speakers per suggestion. I bought a relatively cheap set of pioneer speakers. They had a low continuous wattage rating so I think that they wont need anymore power than is provided by the stock system.
  12. I got the key cover off of my key with a flathead screwdriver, per suggestion, I tested the battery and it still had a charge. The switch in the dash is ON. Is there anything else that could be wrong, like, something in the key, a blown fuse, or something else?
  13. The snow is falling here in Ohio and it looks as if I need some new windshield wipers. The wipers I have on my 91 ls400 now are just streaking the water so I cant see anything. What all do I have to replace, just the rubber part or the whole steel and rubber blade Does anyone have a suggestion for what wiper blades to get and how to install them?
  14. No its not the switch. I even asked the Lexus dealer to make sure the switch worked, unfortunately I didn't have the master key with me at the dealership. But they said the switch was working fine.
  15. My master remote key for my 1991 LS 400 has stopped working. I think that the battery in the key has died. I took the little screw out but the key wouldn't come apart. Does anyone know how to take apart the key and what battery it takes. This is the only master key that I have so I don't want to ruin it!
  16. My 91 LS400 has very hard steering, it has ever since Lexus replaced the leaking power steering pump. It was taken back to the dealer and we were told that the entire front axle had to replaced, I don't remember what the quote was but it was quite large. I just delt with the harder than normal steering. I would love to have a lighter steering car. Does anyone have specific instructions for cleaning this filter, the approximate location of it, and is there any engine knowledge required? I don't know much about the engine specifics, to remove the filter do I need to drain the entire system? There is also a comment that the part isnt listed in the lexus books, if I take it to the local toyota dealership, will they know what I am talking about?
  17. I have looked long and hard and it looks like they haven't ever crash tested the 90-94 LS models. I was just wondering how safe is my Lexus. I know that it has to be relatively safe, the 95 models got great marks. Does anyone know of an official test of these models?
  18. I took the panel off today, easier than i thought it would be, there isn't anthing visually wrong with the speaker. I tried another speaker and it worked, so the speaker must be blown or somthing. I looked around at some speakers, the opening doesn't seem anything standard. I plan on just modifing the enclosure a little and installing a 4inch speaker. Does anyone have a suggestion for what type of speaker to install? I just want somthing that will work and sound ok.
  19. The site that the links point to suggest using an aftermarket 4" speaker to replace the speaker. When I take the door panel off, if I find that the speaker is beyond repair I would like to purchase a new one. Does anyone have suggestions for a pair of speakers that would fit in the panel?
  20. I recently recievied a 1991 ls400 with 155k miles. Before I got the car it had standard work done on it, replaced timing belt, water pump, fixed power stearing leak, oil change, and oil filter . Beside from other not so important problems like the blacked out clock, broken remote entry, no electric trunk release, partially working stereo, and worn out seats there isn't anything seriously wrong with the car. Several people have remarked that a car with that many miles is very unreliable. All I have read on this site is that this car will last much longer. Is there any problem I should be concerned about and how much longer will my car last without needing huge repairs. All of the work on the car has been done by a Toyota or Lexus Dealership.
  21. My foglight on my 91 ls400 went out so I went to Advance Auto to get the H3 bulbs specified in the manual. The store had a great sale on the Silverstar headlamps (bulbs only). So I decided to get myself a pair, for $30, figured i just do preventative maitnance. I started following the steps in the manual. I couldn't get past the first step, it says to remove the side lamp to get access to more screws. I removed the only screw for the side lens and pulled, the lens wouldnt move. I didn't want to break the lens so I stopped. Already frustrated I took out the fog lamp assembly and found out that the car doesn't even use standard H3 bulbs. Lucily I only spent 5 bucks on the bulbs. Does anyone have ideas on how to get the side lens off? Also, does anyone know what types of bulbs are used in the foglights?
  22. I have pushed this in before, drove me crazy too, but I tried and regretfully its not the problem
  23. The trunk release on my ls all of sudden stopped working. After finding my master key I was able to open the trunk, but the electric trunk release in the car continued to not function. After looking further into the problem i was able to find a wire broken in the trunk. The bars that hold the top of the trunk, the driverside bar has wires running in it. The wire exits the support and enters a bracket. There is a black wire that is broken right inside of this "bracket". The wire is in the bracket so a simple tape job wont do. I included a picture of the break in the wire. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this break. Sorrry the picture is fuzzy, its hard to get a picture when your laying in your dark trunk!!
  24. I just got this 91 ls400 with the Nakamichi Sound System. The rear speakers haven't worked for some time, the front speakers and the sub had been working. This morning the front passenger side speaker didnt work at all either. The smaller speaker higher on the door still works but the larger doesn't do anything. I now have one speaker and the sub, an odd expirience. Does anyone know how to get the door pannel off to see the speaker. Has anyone else had this problem?? Lastly, if I took it to get repaired how much would it cost for a replacement.
