  1. I would like to have another fully functional, non valet, key for my car and came across this link: Replacement Key The note states that the vin and the address need to match in the lexus database, does registering on lexus.com accomplish this or do i need to goto the local dealer? Will the key function completly as the original? I need a key to start the car and to be able to open the trunk. The key seems very cheap for a Lexus key, granted it doesn't have the remote! Has anyone done bussiness with these people?
  2. LinuxFan, Interesting that you have mentioned this, my front speakers are the only ones that work in my LS. I have heard complaints about the Nakamichi (if you have them) speakers blowing out before. I plan to look at the amp this weekend, I was told that the connections might have corroded over the years.
  3. I had my belt changed at 154000, at the local toyota shop, the guys didnt comment on the belt but couldnt believe the car had 154000 miles on her!
  4. I have the nakamichi system in my 91, but i know that there is a small amp mounted to the back wall of the trunk and an amp located under the cd changer. Amp under the cd changer removal instructions The link above is from carstereohelp.com, the instructions are to remove the cd changer, but the amp is below. The amp beside the gas tank is accessed by removing the screws along the top of the back fabric trunk liner. I dont know if the amp locations are the same for the pioneer system.
  5. About a month ago I left my headlights on and came out 3 hours later to a clicking starter. I couldnt figure out why my lights didnt turn off, then I noticed that the rubber covering on the driverside courtesy switch (the black button) had gotten too cold and had hardened. So when I opened my door the button didnt pop out, and the car never knew I got out, leaving the lights on. When I returned to my car I noticed my back lights were still dimly lit... darn. But the car came right to life, all it needed was a quick jump! VB: If it was winter at Newark it was probably just the switch. A little off topic but... The 2000-2003(dont know the year) Chrysler Sebring I got the jump from had no visible battery, just arrows poiting to bolts where I could attach the cables, where do they put the battery?
  6. 93, Did you do the repair, or did you send then the entire unit? How did you get it down to 250, did you get it from their ebay account?
  7. I was looking in my trunk this morning, if you remove both mats so that you are down to just the spare tire and bare metal. On the extreme drivers side on the floor of the trunk there is a removeable panel. Once I removed the panel there was a black plastic box, and group of wires running there. Is the black box the remote entry reciever? I couldnt get any of the other other side trim off, it seems to be glued in place. Any one with a manual please help.
  8. I started this thread long ago, but I got new info! My key remote worked twice today then stopped. I heard that to test your key, tune to 94.4 on your radio and test the key, if it work the radio will cut out or have interference(only 1st gen). According to this test my key works! Where is the receiver for the keyless entry system, I have heard in trunk but how do I access it?
  9. The previous owner tried to fix the master key, but in the process lost the little plastic button. Now I have a key with like a hole in it where the plastic piece should be. I can still push the button in the key with a tool, but not by hand. Does anyone have an old first generation master key with the little piece of plastic that your not using? I tried to make my own plastic piece, but failed several times, its pretty tricky! PS: I'll post a picture of the key to give you a better idea as soon as I get my camera charged!
  10. My LS has the steering wheel tilted, it had this problem ever since I got it, it just wasnt a priority. I thought I would find out what it would take to get the wheel back straight. Can I just take it to any shop, or should I only trust this task to a toyota/lexus dealer? Is there any easy way to do it yourself, if not how much does it cost to get the alignment done at a toyota dealer? I attached a photo:
  11. to miest21, I have heard before that the synthetic oil will make the oil leaks worse, is the oil thinner or what. to everyone, I'm scared to put synthetic in my 91 LS but I want the benefits of a fully synthetic oil. Would it be better to use a covnentional and synthetic combination oil as a transition to the syntheric. If I switched to synthetic and the engine started to leak oil, could I change back to the natural stuff to stop the leak. I dont have any leaks right now, but I haven't the money for the expensive gasket work if one forms.
  12. Is there a certain type of clay bar that you recommend and where can i get it?
  13. I have tried wd40 on the antenna as well, it didnt work well at all. I have since used a lithium grease and it lasts much longer.
  14. To my knowledge all the ls400s have anchored gas pedals. Look under your pedal to see if there is a broken plastic bracket or something. I haven't ever heard of this type of thing, can you post a picture?
  15. Is "remotes4cars" Mikado's ebay user account? And I guess the other lcd seller "lex-pert" is jim walkers account?
  16. I think that I am going to send my entire unit into Mikado and have them install the new LCD. I know a couple of you have done this, what did you send to them, the entire climate control unit?
  17. I know that when you remove that panel you do bend it considerably, any chance that the wood will just fall off of the black plastic. If it does can I just glue it back on?
  18. From the pics they look like scratches, but they are cracks, I guess you have to feel them...
  19. The little button on the drivers door that tells the car when the door is open doesn't always register that my door is open. When it is cold out or there is a cold wind the rubber around the switch gets too stiff. Then when I open the door, the headlights don't turn off and the interior lights don't turn on. I would imagine that the security system doesn't set either. Right now everytime I get out I fiddle with the button to get the headlights to turn off. Is there something I can put on the rubber to make it more flexible at lower temperatures, does anyone else up north have this problem? This "little" problem has caused me a dead battery and countless times I have gone out to see my headlights are still on. Picture of the problem button, in case people don't know what I am talking about:
  20. I forgot all about this thread! Here is the picture I took of my chipping wheel: Any ideas, I read about getting the wheels refinished, but for how much?
  21. and... Do you think that the piece is broken all the way through, can I remove the piece with out causing further damage?
  22. I would like to send in my climate control LCD to Mikado but I have to take off the wood trim around the gear shifter to take out the Climate Control. The wood looks as if it is cracked. I have already had the wood trim fall off of my passenger side window/lock panel, under the wood there was a black peice of plastic. I glued the wood back onto the plastic. If I take off the shifter trim, I think I will break it, is there a piece of black plastic under the wood here as well? If I did break it, is there a replacement piece, and if so how much would it cost me? I will post a picture of the trim as soon as I can get my digital camera charged.
  23. I was starting my 91 ls400 today and noticed that there were not many lights showing up on the dash. I know that the indicator lights burn out. Do all the lights show when the car is started? A list of the lights that are supposed to light would be appreciated.
  24. Can I mix the synthetic Dexron III with what I have in there already?
  25. I did check the coolant in the morning. I have noticed though that the coolant level is higher, between the lines on the resevoir, when the engine is warm. I remember that when I got the car back from the timing belt service there was dried coolant all over the resevoir, i just thought that the service guys were careless and dumped it all over. Do you think that the coolant just overflowed?
