  1. Yeah, I think the shroud is for wind noise & protection of the elements first, but it could keep a rock or something bad out of the engine compartment too! I'd leave it off till the next oil change at least......you'll know how the PS rack is by then also 99
  2. Be sure to check you PS fluid level first thing.... If it's losing fluid you should notice it on the "dipstick". Since you keep a clean engine, reach down along the PS lines (if possible) and see/feel if any fluid it on the hoses, etc...... 99
  3. Here's the filter being bent back.......... 99
  4. This is correct. Just take off filter and you'll add back a half quart or so.... You do not need to take off the plastic shield. Just unscrew the two bolts on the cover that conceals the oil filter and then "bend back" the undercarriage. It is designed to do this....you'll see the "crease". I think I have a photo... 99
  5. rc, That's my LS also!!! 99
  6. Thanks JPI --waiting to see also!!!!1 99
  7. My wife thinks the BMW 7's are the best - she has ridden both.... But her perspective is more from a design aspect, I am certain. Mechanically, once she sees the reliablity of the LS compared to the Beemer, she would agree the LS is superior. That 7 series has some serious rear leg room!!! 99
  8. I bummed too! :( Glad you're OK. Your wheels/tires look new :( 99
  9. Aaahhhh, The radiator cap may have fluctuations............very interesting.... The temp guage is rock solid - no problems there! All good points - thanks! 99
  10. Hey gurus, Just wondering, had the LS since July 03 and I"m referencing the coolant level: Always been dead perfect on the full mark, did the coolant flush @ 60K (2 months ago) and set it perfect again. All this time(in 8 months) I never took the LS on a extended trip and the level was always FULL. Went to the Ozarks two weeks ago (260 mile round trip, and when I got back the coolant was maybe an inch below the ADD mark. Stayed this way for a week, then I didn't drive the LS for about 3 days. Now, the level is back up to the full mark......... So, what's happening??? 99
  11. 1990LS400 - Jim, That is really sad.......I usually find that I know more about the vehicle than the service managers <_< Have you tried the other location up north?? 99
  12. Richard, I think you may be on to something with the Gen I vs III. Your LS does have a stiffer ride as Lexus has "softened" the cushion over the years..... 99
  13. Here are all the components........... 99 comp.pdf
  14. Richard, I just went out there and pushed down about an inch...I'm 185 lbs and a weakling :D The car just pops back up silently................. 99
  15. That 'clunk' sound is a CLASSIC SIGN of worn struts..... stand over the front fender in the driveway and push down...a good shock/strut will bounce quietly back up with little or no "bounces",,, The front wheel shimmy lists the suspect areas as follows: tires wheels out of balance Shocks/ struts worn bad alignment worn ball joints hub bearings loose steering linkage loose steering gear/rack @ 85K, its entirely possible the struts, lower ball joints, and tie rod ends need replacement. It's a sad aspect of this car; but its also what gives it the remarkable smooth ride :D , Its the price we pay I suppose..... Like Silvermate suggested - lower ball joint wear is also associated - and a common culprit. 99 Here is diagram of the tie rod location - the tie rods are what's connected to the steering rack and cause the pivot of the tires. They "TIE" into the lower ball joint and wear occurs at the "ends or bushings". 99 comp.pdf
  16. My vote would go to worn tie rod ends..........
  17. Yes, Just pre-mix 50/50 and keep the jug handy in the garage.... Gen III is 98-2000 99
  18. Yes - SK is correct! My 99 does same thing (one time, one direction) due to "floating" caliper... 99
  19. Well done zdeno!! What did you figure out on the LS??? 99
  20. Jim, Let me know what they say about the 99's too............. Thanks, Roy
  21. Got it!! Thanks SWO :D 99
  22. Hey Denny, Can I use the #1 paint cleaner to cut through my collinite that I applied in December....? Do I need to "clay bar" first? I'm planning on a big "clean" after tax day and am looking forward to a fresh coat of collinite for the summer :D 99
  23. I think if you unhook the battery for 5-10 minutes; it will relearn your habits.....VMF stated it took about 20-40 trips after battery hookup....
  24. Here are the numbers: If you drive 10K a year (gas @ 1.50 gal), difference between 20 mpg & 35 mpg is savings of $325. Same as above with gas @ $2.00 gal = savings of $430 Driving 20K a year (gas @ $1.50) = savings of $650 Driving 20K a year (gas # $2.00) = savings of $855 At the current gas pump prices......the extra cost of gas can = an insurance payment!!!! These cars cost a lot in insurance, gas, & DEPRECIATION :( But so does everything else :chairshot: 99
  25. Thanks VMF!!!
