  1. Of course... is part of the Lexus Personalized Settings...the very first one!

The personalized settings don't work with the key fob. I assume that's what Panoudimi is talking about, having the key on you, and unlocking the doors just with your hand. There is a thread in here about this somewhere....if you do a search, it might confirm what I'm saying, since I can't remember for sure now.

  2. I think its all personaly preference. I personally don't mind small chips on the front. Its a car...its bound to happen.

Yesterday I was behind three rock trucks, all together, spewing out little rocks and sand. I was getting plastered from top to bottom on my car. I was not a happy camper. In that instance, the 3m bra is going to only protect those spots it's covering, and everything else gets chipped......

  3. My IS250 average MPG is 28.7 and thats about 70% freeway, although freeways in Los Angeles arent always a good gas savers.

Well, I'm driving in LA traffic as well, but the opposite direction. I'm going east bound/out of LA so the traffic ain't too bad. Maybe I will just wait out after my first 700 miles and check on my mpg afterward. <_<

As of yesterday, after I drove more than 300 miles, the dash says I'm averaging 22.4 miles. And that's very light on the gas paddle, but I'm trying to be easy during the break-in period after reading posts. Even my GS400 gets 24miles after 6 years of driving, so the new IS concerns me a bit.

    Andy

And if this is the first tank of gas, and you don't know how it was driven on test drives before you bought it, could be a reason why. Just no heavy braking, ease into it, or sudden bursts of speed, lol!!! I'd put in a full tank, reset the mileage, and try that!!! Thank goodness you're not driving into L.A. Thus the reason I don't either. I just wish that I lived in L.A.!!!

  4. I got out of a 325i, manual transmission, for my first Lexus IS250. That BMW had 90,000 miles on it, and it just kept going and going, no rattles, interior problems. It was running out of warranty, and I wanted another car to replace it. However, by that time, BMW came out with the new model, which I think completely sucks, and so looked at Lexus the first weekend it came out.

My 2006 Lexus had the seatbelts replaced, due to recall, the handle above the passenger door replaced (due to my husband pulling on it, and it falling off into his hand), the rattle in the dash fixed, the A/C recirc was corrected, rearview mirror replaced due to excessive vibrations (no, I don't play my music that loud!!!), and probably some other things I can't think of offhand, besides the standard oil changes. But I did like the car, to be honest with you.

I traded it in for a 2007 IS250, which is why I've been really quiet in this board lately, because the problems seem somewhat fixed. Okay, I do have the slight rattle in the passenger side seatbelt section. I'm paranoid, I know. Other than that, the car is brilliant!! I am really loving it. I did look at a BMW 328i, with a cold weather package (love those heated seats), but BMW only offered me, like $18k on a trade-in, when KBB says it was $23k. We left laughing at them. Guess they didn't want a Lexus trade-in.

Service is great at a Lexus dealership. I was taking the BMW in every three months because of how much I drive, and paying $1,500 for whatever service they needed (this is before their maintenance thing they have now), no loaners. I had to pay for a rental car. Lexus gives you a loaner for basically whatever, even if it's just an oil change, for the day. Frankly, I just totally prefer the Lexus over the BMW, even with all the issues I've had. At least Lexus was able to fix them.

Now, after my long diatribe, I'm not driving my Lexus much. I went out and bought a Prius, of all things. I miss the Lexus!!! Okay, not so much after my 48 mpg I'm getting right now........

  5. something in the glove compartment?

Unbelievable - after I read you post I was like - there isn't anything in the damn glove compartment but the manual. So I am driving home and I open the box and I noticed that the manual (which is the size of the old and new testaments together) and wrapped in leather is sitting on the shelf on the right side - I was like what the hell I'll take it out. No more ticking for the last 75 miles. Thanks for saving my sanity (at least in the short term). Really can't thank you enough. Drove to work 5:30 this am for 50 miles in complete and utter silence.

    Clay

 So now I'm the only one that's ever experienced this????? lol!

  6. I've been having this issue, as well. I had an '06 that did it incessantly. Lexus never found a problem with it. Even after having the recalled seatbelts installed, it still did it. My newer '07 does it less, but I can tell it's still there. It's nice to see someone else who is so fanatic about the noise in their car!! lol!!!

  7. I'm taking delivery of my IS 250 next week. The dealer recommended that they install the 3M Clear Bra because, since the vehicle sets lower than most cars, the IS is more prone to picking up stone chips. The dealer is offering it to me, installed, for $349. Does this sound like a fair price? After all, it's basically a piece of heavy Saran Wrap...

What experience do you readers have with the bra? Does it work as well as advertised? Is the product durable - does it hold up well in all kinds of extreme weather? How noticeable is the seam where the bra stops (the car is painted Black Sapphire Pearl)? Can this 3M surface be waxed like the rest of the vehicle?

Any other thoughts on the bra would be greatly appreciated before I commit to purchasing it

Before even reading the comments on this, I DEFINITELY WOULD GET IT FOR $349!!!!! Yeah, if you look through this site, there are other threads on this subject, one started by myself!!! I was going to be charged $1,000............especially with install, that's a great price, and I'd do it at the drop of a hat!!!!!

  8. I was told to "never lose the key fob" because they are expensive to replace, and only Lexus will replace them. When you get the car new, there is a number engraved on a metal tag that comes on one of the keys. That is the number to replace the fob if you ever need to. I don't know how Lexus will replace it without that number. I'd call a dealer and find out.

  9. I love it when people get angry when they're caught speeding. Defense mechanisms are fascinating to me.

He probably just didn't notice the plate missing.

I wasn't angry about the speeding. I was angry because people were passing me, and he chose me to pull out of the carpool lane, over four other lanes through traffic, and to the shoulder. I didn't think it was a safe maneuver. But whatever. He told me that he had to chase me to catch up to me, passing ten other cars. The guy was green. Anyways, life goes on.....

  10. Have not yet brought it to the dealer. Is this something that I should inquire about right a way? I mean it does *BLEEP* me off, but is not something mechanical that doesnt allow me to drive, and I dont want to be classified as a picky customer, being that I am only 22. Unless the suspense is killing everyone, then I'll take it in!

That's not being picky. You should take it in right away, or else they're going to accuse you of doing something. Have you even called to complain about it? You paid a good deal for this car, and it should be impeccable, in my opinion. That is simply unacceptable.

  11. On my new IS, when I went to take the front plate off (yes, CA is required to have front plates, but who listens?), the dealer had screwed the screws so far in that it damaged the paint surface. I now have my front plate permanently implanted because I'd rather see that than the damage. I never called the dealer about it. I think it's their way of getting people to use the front plate, like the law says you're supposed to!

By the way, the missing plate will give a bored cop a reason to stop you, no matter what you are doing. My son is a cop, he says its great for stopping suspected folks, ( he works in a high gang area) . I know in my town of Roseville the cops are quite bored and love to stop you for missing plate.....I know it looks cleaner without the plate....

Yes, I know this. Which makes me wonder why, when I owned my BMW, I got pulled over for speeding. Pulled outta the carpool lane for going 79 (when others were passing me). I had a black BMW emblem on the front bumper instead of my license plate. The cop never cited me for it. Actually, I think he didn't want to deal with my angry husband and passengers in the back any longer, so just gave me the ticket and sent me on my way. lol.

  13. My IS 250 AWD has what sounds to be a similar problem. The tranny hunts/slips between 1st and 2nd when slowing during a rolling stop. This combined with dash squeeks, rattles, and pops, occasional odd noises coming from the front end when accelerating from a full stop, and noisy brakes are disappointing for a company that touts "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection".

Santoro, do you have an '06 250? And did you buy it when it first came out? I had a lot of the same problems with my car, which I bought the first weekend that it came out. I replaced it with an '07, and the issues have resolved. I think Lexus has worked on these issues, and continues to.

Lambo, I have an '06 and puchased it on August 31st of 2006. I'm certainly hopeful the dealer can resolve these issues for me as I only have 7500 miles on it. I have owned two Hondas and a Nissan and never had problems like these. My wife is on her third Nissan since we've been married and hasn't experienced this either. Hence, my disappointment in Lexus.

Yes, you bought yours right around the same time I bought mine. I had 30k on mine when I traded it in for the "upgrade," is what I call it, only about a month and a half ago. Lexus seems to have fixed all the problems. I had the rearview mirror replaced, the recall on the seatbelts done, the handle above the passenger door came off, the insulation put into the dash for the rattling sound (popping always stayed), and I can't think of much more that I had done on that car. Oh, new brakes at 30k, but that was normal. This new 250 is a dream. I totally love it. I was in my other car all week, and got into my 250 for the day. OMG!!

I would assume the dealer can fix the probs for you. My local dealer did their best to fix the problems for me. I am not in any way disappointed with this car, even after the problems, and all the different cars that I've owned.

    --------

Edit, I've been thinking about this one since I wrote it. I bought my car in 2005, not 2006. So I bought mine a full year ahead of yours. Those problems should have been fixed by the time you bought your car.............yes, now I understand.

  15. We resolved some related issues on another message board. One of the senior moderators locked himself in the trunk and determined the following:

The light goes out when the trunk is closed.

The hostage release handle glows brightly in the dark.

He was able to open the trunk by pulling the release handle.

    :lol::lol::cheers::lol::lol:

Yes, this is a very good thing to know!!!
