  1. Have any of you heard the 911 audio tape of the girl that called in all panicked that the battery on her car just died. She said now the little button to unlock the doors won't work and she was trapped in the car. Could they send someone right away! At which time the 911 operator asked her to move the lever that locks and unlocks the car manually. So she reaches over and pushes the lock and the door opens. She is so relieved and thanks the 911 operator, and finishes with, "I never knew you could do that!"

    Yeah!

I'm almost too ashamed about this, but I must share. I had spent the weekend in Colorado, in a hot climate, with no a/c in the house, hadn't slept all weekend, and on my way home, in one of those vans that carries everybody from the airport, sitting in the front seat, I asked, how do you roll down the window? (it was manual). You should've seen the driver's face.

  2. My passenger door is rattling, and I thought it was coming from the storage compartment door that you can open and close, but it now does not appear to be coming from there. It's somewhere in this door, and I can't find it! When I drive on a certain freeway, it's the worst! Maybe it could be the speaker, up higher, since if I have my bass at a 2 level, it can start it going, as well? Any ideas, so when I take the car in, I can explain it? Or do you think some tech will actually drive with me on the freeway to try and diagnose it? I don't know how far they'll actually go with me.....

Oh, and I replaced my rearview mirror, and it's worse. lol.

  3. Why would you think you would do better in your IS than a Prius if size is your concern? Your IS is significantly smaller than the Prius. The Prius is a midsized car, same as an ES, Camry, or GS. The IS is a compact car. Look it up. I'd feel safer in the Prius, honestly.

The Prius is a very, very safe car.

The size of the car I'm in is not of concern. It's the size of the car that will hit me, and the weight. The Prius is a light car. I could literally kick a hole in the side of my old Prius. What is going to happen when a car hits me? Sure, I've seen the test results. It gets four stars on all tests, except for the driver side gets five stars, according to Safercar.com. The Lexus gets good ratings all around, according to IIHS.org. It's probably a crapshoot, but I sure as heck feel a lot better in the Lexus than the Prius. And it doesn't have anything to do with luxury.

    Sorry to be off-topic.......

  4. I don't think I'll be going back to a Prius anytime soon. When I was checking out the safety ratings, sure, it gets good ratings, but it's only with similar cars like itself. So if a jacked-up truck comes barreling down on me, I'm not going to survive. Of course, not many cars would, but I think I can do better in my Lexus than the Prius........I'm just glad that I have a job that allows me to be able to pay these prices.......now, saving, that's another thing....!!!!

  5. Umm, he is in the IS section, isn't he? Unless I'm lost, too!

I would take it back under warranty. Not sure about the orange spot, however.

And as for the bugs, I've seen other people complain about that. Fortunately, I don't seem to have that problem. Maybe it's the color? Although my car is the silver, I had the white one before, but still didn't have the issue.

  6. I've used the services of a dent repair person myself, and I think they're a God send. I got rid of a BMW with a huge door ding (and I parked in BFE, btw, and the dip$%^& still did it!), and it was in the rear wheel well. Can't fix it without drilling a hole and resanding the whole back panel. The wheel wells on BMW are double-skinned. Couldn't stand the sight of it, and got something else, lol.

  7. I knew that question was coming!

Honestly, it's the service. I do like the car, despite all the rattles. I can't live w/out the service that Lexus provides. BMW never had cars for me, I always had to take the car in, hitch a ride to work, etc. Lexus gives me a car for everything. At least, the Lexus dealer I go to.....

  8. Oh, that's normal, the "gurus" not hearing anything. I had that on the last IS250.

And I've had one in the back somewhere that I'm finally convinced is the door hook, lol!!!!

I'm taking it in for service in the next couple of weeks, and I'm telling them to replace the rearview mirror, which vibrates incessantly, and take the car on the roads that I drive so they can hear the rattles!!!!

  9. Hi

New IS250RWD owner of 2 days - converted from Acura TSX. Got my IS from Lexus of Westminster (great service so far and good deal, highly recommend it). While I am getting to know my new set of wheels, I just have a quick question.

How long did the tires last for you? Dealer told me 15000-17000 but would like to know real world numbers. and where are good places to get those tires (internet?)? Thanks.

I still have my originals, at 24,000 miles. I do a lot of highway driving, however. I did get one replaced due to a nail, and I did it at the dealership. I found it to be the same price as everywhere else. That was at that time. Might be different now..

  10. I will be leasing mine next time. I drive a lot, about 20k a year. My husband was of the opinion that this stops me from doing a lease. However, he says he's learned otherwise, and this could save us lots of money. We go through cars every two years, so this would be great!

P.S. Did the dealer give you any problems with the lease return?

  11. Oh, I meant aftermarket GPS when I asked if you didn't want navigation... the factory nav is a -horrible- value for what it offers

I guess I'd have just bought a newer GPS (with newer maps) and bluetooth built in to have it all in a single device... I store my GPS in the center console when not in use to avoid the visible theft magnet theft issue.

I do think they should have a mute button on the steering wheel stereo controls though, but I guess it's nearly as easy to just hold down mode to turn the thing off.

How does the Garmin provide hands-free for your cell phone through the BlueTooth? Where's the speaker and all of that?

And if you press the "mode" button long enough, it turns off the whole stereo? Cool, I love these tricks!
