  1. Just just got a new IS250 and I notice when I press the Auto button on the A/C unit, a button light come on, but when I press it again it does not turn off. The only way I can turn it off is when I change the fan speed. Is this normal or could my Auto button be defective?

It's not defective. When you depress "auto," it makes the A/C auto. If you press anything else, it takes it out of auto. If you want to turn off your A/C, depress "off."

  2. Visited my local Lexus dealer(Tom Williams Lexus in Birmingham, Al) today to look at and potentially test drive an 07 IS250 w/ manual tranny. They didn't have any on the lot, and upon asking I was told that they had stopped producing the car with a manual transmission......

Is this true? If so it sucks, I'll wind up buying a 328i with a 6 speed(which will be awesome, but cost a few K more)

As far as I know, you can get the manual transmission ONLY in the IS250, which also offers auto in that car. In the 350, they only have auto. I just looked on the Lexus site, and they offer manual trans. Seems the salesperson doesn't know what he's talking about.......

  3. So I've noticed that I'm getting 2 mpg better since I've had my car serviced at 30k. Believe it or not, I'm getting 30 mpg. I do drive a lot freeway. Okay, something just occurred to me. Maybe it's because it's the holiday week and there's not a whole lot of stopping-and-going??? Anyways, I'm just trying to figure out why I would be getting better mileage........NOT THAT I'M COMPLAINING!!!

  4. Greetings board,

Today (technically yesterday now ;)) I became the proud owner of a 2007 Tungsten IS250 with Nav system (at invoice price after letting the GM know my mom/dad have bought/leased 3-4 Lexus'/Lexii? each from them). I come from two previous Audi A4s, two 1.8Ts. This time around, I felt Audi had lost touch with who was primarily driving their A4 line, so I have shelfed the 4-rings for now. With the strongest recommendations from a cousin of mine and a co-worker, I was told to run to a Lexus dealer and check out the IS. Needless to say, I love this little Lexus so much :). I find it hard to wipe the stupid smile off my face as I drive it all over! It's like a 5/6 model of my dad's GS- only sexier. Anyway, I did have a few questions maybe you guys could help with.

    1. Is there a way to cancel the persistent beeping the car's safety-belt-check system makes? For example, if a front-seat passenger briefly removes their safety belt to even do something simple like reach out and get their mail from the box. Of course safety is number-1... but it's really a bit much.

    2. iPod connectivity... I see a headphone port in the center console. What connectors/equipment would I need to get my iPod playing through the car stereo? I'm willing to explore all options, and I was briefly told by my salesman that some people opt for an $8 cable, and others go the mile and get a $2-400 setup where the actual console controls the iPod.

    3. I know my local Lexus dealer would stock lots of accessories and stuff, but I get the feeling I could do a lot of shopping online. Where's a good place to shop online? My local Lexus dealer is one equipped to deal with selling just 70 cars/month, but they push 350 out the door montly (according to the finance manager), so you can imagine the crazyness just "stopping by" is.

Thanks again everyone. I look forward to being an active member of the boards. I'm a very active reader :).

    Welcome!

You can do a search on this site for the seatbelt beeping. It's been discussed before, and the whole step-by-step is somewhere already discussed.

As for the others, sorry, can't help ya!! lol. Somebody should be able to come along and help ya out.

  5. My IS350 is in the shop RIGHT NOW for the 4th time trying to fix a rattle in the dash, and I have just over 3k miles. I'm so mad right now. They keep saying "we think we fixed it" and the damn thing rattles before I get home. :( I'm VERY unimpressed with Lexus at this point. When I test drove it I heard the rattle and when I told my sales rep he said "a Lexus doesn't rattle". BS. Then he said if it did they would fix it, but here I am with a loaner for the 4th time in month. :chairshot:

Tell them to do that bulletin. It's the felt in the dash stuff. It totally took away the rattle in my dash!!

  6. 1. Hawk pads. From my experience with other cars, they are more for the track, and squeal like a stuck pig.

    2. Some people, after thoroughly cleaning their wheels off the car, give them a good coat of wax so they wash easier. I am not one of them.

lol, "stuck pig." So the squealing I'm experiencing now, with the regular Lexus brake pads, isn't normal; or is it???? It's driving me nuts!

And, yes, my wheels get extremely dirty after a day or two.

Squealing brakes can be any number of things but 2 things come immediately to mind:

    1) you are getting close to needing a replacement set .. BTW how many miles do you have?

    2) Pads and rotors have glaze or rotors have heat, hot spots (caused by riding brakes down hills) or aggressive driving (heavy on the brakes & accelerator) or just routine LA stop & go traffic!

Is it a saftey hazzard? NO

    is it an annoyance? YES

If you are LESS THAN 1 yr old & have LESS THAN 20K, Lexus MIGHT warranty it (usually the pads need to be above 50% remaining and not just worn out by/from normal wear & tear)

It all depends on the relationship you have with the local dealer

(At leat with us, it needs to be under 1yr AND under 12K AND no more than 50% wear otherwise, the client is buying them themselves (ie: NO warranty for you!)

    GOOD LUCK

I have 30k on my car, and it's a little over a year old. I just took it in last week for the 30k service, so I ASSUME that Lexus checked the brakes out for me, especially since I told the tech guy. But sometimes those tech guys don't listen.

  7. BTW, I just read through the specs that Lexus puts on their website, and the only reference to premium gas is in the footnote on Performance, in which they state, "Performance may suffer if premium gas isn't used." They don't say anything about premium gas needing to be used to keep the engine from being damaged.

And, yes, this thread was started from an intellectual aspect. But it is interesting to note how many people have turned it into a cost issue. Not only that, but it still surprises me at how many posts I see about people who complain about the lack of speed in the IS250, or how they can hop up the car and make it faster.

Fer cryin' out loud, this ain't a racing car. It's a luxury sport sedan. If you want to race something that you can beat to hell and have fun doing it, buy a Subaru WRX. It'll blow the doors offa just about anythin, and you can buy two of them for the price of an IS250.

    larry

I bought my IS250 bcz it offered a hella lot more than my 325i had, or the new ones coming out. Come on, in-dash 6-CD changer??? Ohhh, yeah!!! lol. There's much more to it, but that was a biggy for me. I use premium because I want the best out of my car. I actually looked it up in the owner's manual the weekend I got the car, saw that line that Larry just quoted, and I thought, okay, premium it is. It's not a cost issue for me. I want my car to last as long as I keep it. Follow the manufacturer's suggestion. Is it that hard???

  8. I will try that, thanks.

    --------------

So I had to finally go out to the parking structure where my car is, to try this out. It worked. So why couldn't the tech guy tell me this over the phone w/out my car in front of me?? It was pretty darn simple. He seemed to think I needed the car in front of me, and to walk me through it. Okay. Yes, I'm female. Yes, I'm blonde. But I'm not dumb.

Thanks, Bartkat, for the help! Once again, I appreciate it!

  9. So I took my car in for the 30k service, complained about the dash AGAIN. They did put in insulation, so there is a fix. The dash DOESN'T :o creak any longer!!! However, now I can't open my passenger windows from my door, lol. I just called the tech guy at my dealer, and he said he could walk me through it, that it sounds like it just needs to be reset.

So just wanted to let everyone know out there, if you have the infamous creaking, take it in, and it should be fixed. It is considered a "campaign" through Lexus.

Oh, but the occasional popping still happens. Guess I can live with that........

  10. 1. Hawk pads. From my experience with other cars, they are more for the track, and squeal like a stuck pig.

    2. Some people, after thoroughly cleaning their wheels off the car, give them a good coat of wax so they wash easier. I am not one of them.

And, yes, my wheels get extremely dirty after a day or two.

  11. Wow, you sound like my wife. Part of the reason she traded in her Volvo was because of rattles. So far her Lexus is solid. She can hear EVERY little thing!

Let us know what/if the dealer finds anything...brakes probably need attention at 30K...

Now those filter prices....the value of being informed!

30k was a major service. So Lexus did everything. I paid about $350 for it all. Brakes don't squeak anymore. And they did a "campaign" for the dash. Believe it or not, they fixed it. More insulation does the trick. Because of that rattle, I couldn't hear the rattle in my passenger side seatbelt, but now I do!! lol. Actually, the side bolster is coming off, so that could be the culprit.

Also, everything got reset because of the battery being tested. So now I have to go find that old thread that has the steps on how to set your seatbelt alarm to not go off........argh!

The loaner car I had got a blow out on the way there. It drove nicely and handled well, even with a flat tire!!! (ES350)

  12. No thats not wrong, your like every other BMW owner whos car goes in the shop every 2 months but they still love the car no matter what!! Haha ok that was a low blow but you get the point!

YES!! LOW BLOW!! I used to own a BMW........ :whistles:

What I love about my dealer is that they gave me a loaner, an ES350 w/nav and everything!! It's a very nice car......

And my cabin filter is being replaced. $86 for the part. I have to go back and look in the previous messages to see what everyone else has paid.......

  13. My sunroof has always made a noise when I have it at a tilt and have the cover closed and hit a bump, just a rattling noise. I can live with that and have got used to it. However, something new has arisen. Now when I'm on a bumpy road, and the sunroof is CLOSED, it makes the rattling noises. My husband has pushed on it while it's closed, and it gives. A lot.......oh, and my dash is getting worse.

Okay. Okay. It's going in tomorrow for the 30k service, so I'm having them look into it. I don't think the dash can get any worse if they break into it to check it out........also, the brakes are getting louder........

BUT I STILL LOVE THIS CAR!!! Is that wrong?

  14. It should not be possible to lock the key inside the car...

The only way this could happen is if the car wash guy accidentally hit the smart key disable button when he was cleaning. Even then the doors should have unlocked with a push of the unlock button on the other key.

    Thats bizarre.

What I find bizarre is if I've already got a key in the car, and the other key outside of the car, and lock the car, and it locks. I guess the outside key overrides the key on the inside???

I always make sure now when I go to a carwash to take the steel key out of the key fob before they take off with my car.......

  15. OK I thought Lexus was meant to be quality……… maybe I had one too many beers

Why would anyone be afraid of complaining….. I did last time and I got my whole bumper replaced and repainted on this damage :whistles: see link below:

    http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...his+be+a+defect

Now I have a rattling noise on my left side door……as well as a creaking noise from the moon roof……….. woo the list grows.

I have only done 3k on the car!

*bleep* when I hit my first service I am getting them fixed.

I did however buy the dealer an expensive bottle of red as a token of appreciation when I first bought the car..... B) .....strategic!

BTW - Anyone know of how to take apart the door?

    :P

I'm afraid to complain about it, because it means taking apart the dash on my car........

  16. Iv'e got a 2006 IS350 and have noticed that when traveling on a "not perfectly smooth" freeway, my dash starts to make creaking sounds like pastics that aren't secured tightly. It seems to be coming from right above my two front air vents in the center of the dash. It is very annoying.

Has anyone else experienced this? I know it's still under warranty but I am hesitant in taking it in for fear of making the problem worse. Can they even fix something like this?

    Thanks.

This has been complained about before on the forum. However, I have the same problem as you now, and I didn't have it before. Yes, the joys of owning new cars.........I am afraid, also, to complain about it for obvious reasons.......

  17. I don't have my front plates on my car. I just ordered a personalized plate, which will take 2 to 3 months, I'm told. And, yes, in CA, it is illegal to not have your front plates.

When I had my BMW and was pulled over 2 years ago, I had a BMW emblem plate on the front, and the cop didn't cite me for it.

Now, our two other cars, I have to admit, do not have their plates on, but we do have them. My husband has this thing about putting plates on cars, especially if you're driving through those infamous areas with cameras at the intersections. I put mine on only because I drive so much, I didn't want to get hassled.

  18. Yeah, I couldn't find that part. I guess if I'd just searched further.....

That's what I kinda figured, that the back part didn't make it acceptable for them. Looks good to me!! I now refuse to have anybody in my back seat, since it's so small, and people just scuff their shoes on the door panel on the way out.........

  19. I think it will keep running til someone shuts it off or it runs out of gas.

The car will run until someone shuts it off. Also, the only warning is on the message center in the dash; no audible warning signal.

My car starts beeping anytime the key leaves it. Funny I didn't hear it that one day........
