  1. I heard on the news this morning about the newest safest cars. I was wondering about IS, if the National Crash Testing and Highway Safety company has posted anything for the 2007 IS. Still, nothing.

Anybody know how safe the IS would be?? I believe with all those airbags, it has to be safe, but can't find any reportings on it.

  2. That's what I was wonder, SW. Only because I do drive a lot, and I have a feeling that BMW would not change my oil free of charge every 2 months or so........but I don't know for sure.......

I also would like to know how often BMW will change the oil under the free maintenance program. I've heard its only like every 15k-20k. I've also heard that some older BMWs are developing sludging problems because of the long oil change interval.

I ask because the free maintenance makes a BMW very attractive for someone like me to lease, because I wouldn't have to pay anything to maintain the bank's car. If I owned it however I would insist on more frequent changes even if I had to pay for them.

  3. My last Lexus, a SC300, had 15 inch wheels with V rated tires on it. I wore out my first set at 15,000 miles. Spending that much on tires every year was appalling to me. So I changed my tires to T rated tires. It gave me a bit softer ride, didn't change the handling much, and the tires were going 60,000 miles, to say nothing of being cheaper.

With car manufacturers going to these premium wheels (17", 18" etc) and low profile tires, they have added another regular cost to the maintenance cost of these vehicles. Not only do people now require replacing tires at 15k - 20k, but they also lose the flexibility provided by all season tires, and need to get second sets of wheels and tires.

I really enjoy my car (a 2006 IS250 that I just bought - one week ago), but was wondering about the possibility of going to a 16" wheel, a higher profile tire with more of a highway rating, rather than a track rating, (let's say a T rated tire) and avoiding the need for Blizzaks in the winter and a second set of wheels for winter as well.

I know that it won't look as "cool," but the burning through money on tires annually will just anger me annually. Any thoughts??

    larry

I've got 27,500 miles on my 250, and I haven't changed the tires yet.........or haven't needed to, let me say.......

  4. I had a black BMW, as well, and it was very hard to keep clean. I didn't really see a lot of scratches on it, however. My husband used to wax it about once a month, if not more. I would say that I'll never own another car in black.......but it sure is purty when it's clean!!! :P

I have to say, however, I think the IS looks better in black than silver. I don't particularly care for the car in silver. However, that's just my opinion.

  5. What i realized was that when i go WOT on S mode the car still shifts close to redline wether i shift at 3k or below, isn't suppose to be all manual or precisely when you shift? Thanks for your responses guys.

    What's WOT?

General question to everyon: Can't the redline be moved, just like the redline on the spedometer can be moved? I'm wondering if that's the problem for yomny......

  6. I am thinking about buying an IS 250 with manual transmission. However according to Lexus, it only gets 20/29 mpg which is about 20% worse than the IS 250(RWD) with auto transmission which gets 24/32 mpg, and about the same as the IS 350 wich gets 21/28. Is this right?

First of all, I don't see how this is possible since manual transmission traditionally gets better gas mileage versus the auto trans. Secondly, the fact that it's "worse" by 20% seems unrealistic.

Could anyone who owns an IS 250 with manual transmission attest to this fact? What are your "actual" gas mileage?

If you would share your likes/dislikes about the car and anything that might be useful to know in terms of helping me decide whether to get the manual vs. auto. would certainly be appreciated.

I've always driven cars with manual trans. and would like to continue to do so but not when I'm going to get a 20% penalty in gas mileage with such a high fuel prices these days.

    Thanks!

All I can say is I got the automatic. My overall mileage is around 27.6 mpg, and my tank average is usually around 28 mpg, better on the highway......

The manual drive wasn't around when I bought mine, and I didn't want to have to have to drive it in the traffic on my way to work. The auto has pick-up-and-go when you really need it. You just gotta put your foot into it a little bit. Although, there goes your gas mileage if you're driving like that all the time!! lol.

  7. This was a question I had for myself as well. I test drove both the IS250 and IS350 and the price was only $4,200 difference. I had the opportunity to drive in a driving rain storm on hilly roads with both as well and the IS350 could not hold the road and even stated to spin out several time. The IS250 could take all corners at very high speeds and not ever lose traction.

I selected the IS250 AWD for the following reasons.

    a. Excellent handling in bad weather road conditions. Even drove up to Mt. Hood in Oregon and passed the SUV's with no problem. All Wheel Drive!

    b. Gas mileage was huge, I get 28 MPG in town and 35 on the road taking a trip from Portland, OR to Whidbey Island, WA. The IS350 is lucky to get 18 in town.

    c. The price is much less and it's got great pickup from 0-60 which is just fine if you don't need to race a Ford Mustang.

Well, that's all I have to say about that. They are both great; however, the above is why I wanted the IS250.

    Good luck and enjoy!

    c.

Okay, so now I have a new dilemma: IS 350, or IS 250 AWD??? lol. However, my husband saw the new 335Ci today and had to call me to tell me it's a good-looking car......choices, choices!!!!!

  8. I have to strongly disagree!

    I have the IS350 and I don't think the G35 is ugly.

It is a very nice car.

For some reason girls don't like it (like my wife), maybe it is too macho looking.

The best car out there is...... what ever you choose!

All these crap about which car is better is just too old.

Some people love G35 and some love the BMW, others love the Lexus... but each of these cars is unique in its own way.

I would not mind drive a nice G35, I would love to drive and own the new 335i and would trade my IS350 for the new M3 when it comes out for sure, and I would maybe stay with lexus if they came out with there own version of M3.

Buttom line is that they are all nice cars and each one of us should choose what ever fits his/hers life style.

Lexus is good for luxury, BMW for sports and G35 for the sporty look.

Lexus is not good in handling, BMW is too plain inside and the G35 is not as fast or roomy.

I would not complain having any of these cars but......

Put me in a Lamborghini and screw all these cars, lol.

lol, Caraveli!!! What you've said is true, esp the part about the Lamborghini!!!

  9. My 2006 IS350 is due for its first oil change at 5,000 miles.

The car has other little issues that i need a service adviser to address:

    1) rear view mirror vibrates and makes noise

    2) rear left spearker has crackling noise

    3) auto headlights inconsistent operation (sometimes comes on during the day or won't come on entering a dark garage)

4)gas pedal inconsistent operation (sometimes feels like gear in neutral when stepping on the gas...the car would jerk and pick up in a second or two delay)

i would appreciate very much if someone can recommend a dealership in the san francisco bay area that has "good" service department that can address the above issues properly and correct the issues. i don't mind driving to a dealership even if it is farther away.

i have been to lexus of serramonte already and problems have not been resolved.

thank you all very much for your feedback and input.

    Jackie

Well, this won't answer your question, but I wanted to let you know that my rearview mirror was replaced for the same reason, under warranty. So if that dealer didn't do anything for you, that's such a shame. Anyone from the SanFran area that can help out?? lol.

  10. You're probably talking about the first-generation G35. A new one with a much improved interior was introduced a few days ago.

Also, I haven't checked, but was the IS more than a 330i (much less the new 335i) when the two are comparably equipped?

Infiniti can't compare for the service I get here in my area.......I'd much rather have a good service provider.........

and the G35 is an ugly car...........

  11. Just wondering? I looked at both and the difference in power made the IS350 a very easy choice. The price is that much different.

If you can't afford the few thousand more then you should probably get a Camry. Mine cost more that a few thousand more than the IS250 as I got the premium package with ML nav.

Because I was desperate to get away from my BMW, and I bought this the first day it came out. They didn't have the 350s that first weekend. My next car just might be a 350, but I'm not sure yet.........I'm already looking into my choices......

  12. I find it pretty easy to open my door and just reach down and push the "unlock" button and then get in.

Of course you would, Bartkat!!! But when I've got an impatient husband who doesn't like to wait, it gets irritating!! Or maybe it's my husband who's irritating!!! :P

Tell him go just realax, cool it.

Or do like I do when I'm out with a chick and walk around, open the door, let them get in and close the door. No waiting. :D :D

Yeah, I've been doing that a lot, unlocking his door first (do you get the idea that I drive EVERYWHERE, and not him???!!!! lol), so all the doors unlock first, and he can get his butt in the car w/o complaining!!!

  13. Hi to all,

I'm the proud new owner of an IS 250, i was reading around here and i found a thread talking about the car in S mode shifting by itself up until 4th gear. Is there a way to have the car completely manual, obsviously without a stickshift car, but being able to shift all through the six gears without the car doing it alone?

When you have the car in the "S mode," you can upshift and downshift manually. I think what the other thread was talking about, is if you don't downshift, the car will do it for you, and then return to the last gear you left it in.

  14. I had heard this particular sound maybe 4 or 5 times total, and always while parked on a sunny day. I haven't heard it again for at least 4 months now. It just stopped happening for whatever reason.

Well, here I was thinking yesterday, when I read your post, that I hadn't heard it in a while, as well. Until I pulled my car out of the garage this morning and was letting it idle a little bit to warm up, then POP!! lol.....

  15. So far I haven't found anyone who has been able to just turn this off. Some people have gone to the extent of installing the sensors in a pressure tank or a wheelbarrow tire, etc and then put that in the trunk. This method makes the sensors "think" they are in properly inflated tires and keeps the alarm from going off.

Still watching and waiting for some other work around.

I was able to go into the computer part and turn it off that way, so you don't get the warning symbol all the time. It's that button on the left of the steering wheel, on the dash, with the arrows to go either way. You get into it that way. Sorry, can't be more specific since I'm not sitting at my car. But it can be done.........

  16. If i remember right, setting up how the doors unlock when you unlock one of the others is one of those options you can set up with the personalization settings at the dealer. You know the questionair you fill you with all the settings you would like changed (eg. how long the lights stay on after turning off your car etc.. )

I believe that's correct. They have a hand held "programmer" to make all those settings to the customer's preference. I had a couple settings changed on the first visit back to the dealer for 30 day inspection.

I see having all the doors open automatically as a mixed blessing though. If all the doors unlock every time you touch the handle, that makes it easy for an unwanted someone to jump in the car with you. That happened to a coworker who remotely opened the doors to his SUV at a gas station and a car jacker jumped in. The coworker finally got away but it was a traumatic experience to say the least.

I asked my dealer about it, and that wasn't an option. And, yes, you are correct that it might not be a good idea after all, in that instance!!!

  17. I live in Socal as well. Can you give me the location and phone number to the shop you took your car to.

The info is at home. The repair shop is in Montclair. I'll get back to you tomorrow on it......

So much for that. I left the info at home. I even wrote it all down!!! I think my hubby must have thrown out the Post-it note, thinking it was trash.

It's actually in Upland. Do you still want the info, since you're in L.A.?

  18. Hello All,

In the three months that I've had my IS250 iIve managed to drain the battery 4 times by forgetting to fully shut down or leaving the assesories on. I'm used to thinking that if I have the keys/remote in my hand then the vehicle is fully shut down.

Does this happened to any of you?

I haven't drained the battery, but I have forgot to put it in park a couple of times. I guess it must have shut down on its own somehow. I tell you, I love this keyless entry system. My husband hates it, esp with his car, but I really like only having to have the key in my purse, walking up to the car, and it unlocks. I just wish it would unlock both doors instead of only the driver's side!!!

  19. Brand new 07 IS 250 had ripples in the windshield. Service manager agreed, replaced it. Second

one rippled too, but not as badly, but enough to make eyes feel like you'd been wearing another's

reading glasses and make me dizzy. We looked at the cars on the showroom floor and ALL had

ripples too - some across the entire windshield !! Manager saw them too, but told me since (apparently)

I am the ONLY one who has ever had a problem with it, TOO BAD, they won't replace mine. You mean,

ALL Lexus windshield have optical distortions and that's OK with Lexus ?! Even contacted a few auto

glass repair shops who said aftermarket (non-Lexus) aren't even available for 06 or 07's.

Have been told by many to pursue Lemon Law. Any suggestions ? No one else sees ripples in

their windshield ? And, the driver's side mirror is distorted too. Service Dept agreed, and is ordering

a new one, but the manager said "If that one isn't good, you'll have to live with it"

What the --- is up with Lexus ?! This is my first, and likely last Lexus.

    Any ideas ?! Thanks

Haven't had that problem, but I did look into replacing my windshield last month. I was quoted $400, so I know there are aftermarket windshields.........I've not heard of this issue at all!
