  1. Thanks guys! So does $600 to install them seem a bit steep? Are you replacing the upper AND lower control arms, is that where you're coming up with the 600? If just upper, for both sides, you would spend the $199 plus S&H for both sides (probably total 260ish). If your lowers also need replacement, i don't think arnott sells those.
  2. "yes, right. its kind of puzzle, when overdrive light is on, it says .../OFF?. If your OD/OFF light is 'on' on the dash then OD is off. When no light appears, OD is on (engaged by pushing the OD button on gearshift, disengage when button is out). On another note, I believe you can only get '98 and later manuals to download. Any earlier models, they will send you a "replica" of the original manual for the year of the car you requested. Hope this helps.
  3. try arnott industries website (http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LEXUS_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid7_pid65.html). scrool to the bottom of the page. you can get a pair of upper control arms (driver and passenger) for 199 plus S+H. I have to replace mine.
  4. Could it be your spark plugs? Timing belt? Just a thought as I had the same issue and when I changed the sparks, all was better. Haven't changed my belt yet though...
  5. Try your lock/unlock electronic button with the window down and reach for the outside door hande and lift while the manual lock (near the internal door handle) goes towards the back of the car. It gets tricky and is extremely fast so you have to get it at the right time. If that doesn't work, try pushing the manual lock button (not the electronic lock/unlock) near the internal door handle back while holding in position as almost as hard as you can and try opening the door standardly. This, too, gets tricky and is extremely fast so you have to get it at the right time. I've had the same problem all winter when it's cold out (under 32 degrees F) and these procedures helped each and every time. Let me know if this helps!
  6. Sorry, qha_vn. I got caught up trying to open my pool for this weeken'd festivities. I will look definitely later this afternoon or early tonight.
  7. Mine does the same. I have a 91. I think it is standard. I believe the seatbelt light would stay lit when there is a problem somehow with the seatbelt. Somehow, I think it is electronically controlled. I don't have my manual downloaded on my work computer, but I do at home so I'll reply later on with the specifics if possible.
  8. How important is this plastic air damn (LOL) piece? Mine was dragging last summer so I've had mine off since then. Anyone have a pic of what it looks like? :whistles: Is it like 3ft wide (driver side to passenger side) and 7 or so inches (from front of vehicle to back) with like a feed and drain piece? Also, shouldn't the car have an undercarraige plastic cover? I didn't have one when I purchased the vehicle. Another question, my bumpers paint is cracking (front and back) and I'd like to get them repainted/refinished. Does anyone know where in the Connecticut area to get this done and how much? Or can I do this myself, but paint is hard to match. :cries: Any help would be great!!! Mucho gracia!
  9. This may also help in your process: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/
  10. Don't know if this will help, but my 91 Repair Manual indicates (also added the entire "drain" procedure): REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID a) Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid. B) Reinstall the drain plug securely. c) With the engine “OFF”, add new fluid through the dipstick tube. Fluid: ATF Type T–II or equivalent Drain and refill capacity (Reference): 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts) d) Start the engine and shift the selector into all positions from “R” through “L”, and then shift into “P” position. e) With the engine idling, check the fluid level. Add fluid up to the “COOL” level on the dipstick. f) Check that the fluid level is in the “HOT” range at the normal operating temperature (70–8°5C or 158–176°F) and add as necessary. NOTICE: Do not overfill.
  11. On the attached LIGHTING - LH HEADLAMP ASSY PDF, under "Prepare vehicle..." it indicates: Prepare vehicle in the following conditions. * Fuel tank is full. * The tire inflation pressure is at the specified level. Is this a joke?
  12. I bought one of those iPod FM transmitters. I works alright but there is always static, no matter what channel I select. I want clarity as from the CD changer, however, I have an aftermarket radio (Clarion) with a subbox that has 3 10" JL Audio subwoofers. It thumps. I would like to know how I could hook up my iPod. Question - Could I use Auxillary line/RCA's? I have RCA's coming from my system that I believe once housed a DVD (can tell by the mounting bracket screw holes on the passenger side of the counsole under the left hand side of the glove box), but they took the DVD when I bought the car. At least I was stuck with the awesome audio system.
  13. Try www.techinfo.toyota.com. You could purchase daily (10.00), monthly (?) or yearly subscriptions (?). It was very useful for my 91 repair work. Also, I believe if you got to www.lexls.com, it is not only a tutorial (DIY), but it also has a link to a site for repair manuals to download ($14.95). Check it out and I hope this helps. Leximus
  14. Simple question, have you checked the fuse for the TRAC? Maybe the previous owner had something done to the TRAC system?
  15. I believe they take 8.7 quarts of tranny fluid (8.3 liters). Be sure you go to a Toyota dealer and get the tranny fluid there.
  16. I have read through this post and also thought I had all the symptoms described above, however, turned out to be my rims were bent. Whoever had the car before me must have ran over curbs or something drastic.
  17. I would go for it. For an 90 LS that u paid 3K for, that's definitely worth putting $669 into. Where could you go wrong, especially with all the monitors and such? If it's in great shape, why not go the extra mile at $669 and get yourself loving your LS400. Got any pics of the car (inside/outside)? Would love to see them. I have a 91 (also a 1st Generation LS400) and I love her. Everyday at lunchtime and sometimes in between, I'm dusting her off (her name's Jezabel), cleaning the 18" chrome rims and just starting her up for 5 minutes or so. I love the way she purrs!!! and by the looks of everyone else, they love her too!. I always get complemented on her. I'll post a pic later on, around 3:30 or so. Nothing special against anyone elses' LS, but against the average car on the street, it seems special! By the way, welcome to the FORUM....and any help I could provide, let me know!
  18. Not sure if this would help as I just noticed the year and model of your car. I apologize.
  19. I have a '91 LS400 (I'll post a pick as soon as I can get a chance. The first top button is the Shift override button. It lets you shift gears without the ignition on, while the car is off/not running. The next button is the Sport-mode button. When the Sport-mode button is activated, it provides a sturdier ride. I believe the Sport-mode button, when activated, works with your Air Suspension to control the performance of your vehicle (anyone, please add in if I'm incorrect, also throughout the entire content of my reply if needed). The Height button should control height of the Air Suspension. On my Lex, the Height Indicator light located in the lower left-hand corner of the dash should indicate "NORMAL" (or "HI" when the button is activated). I believe when in "NORMAL" mode with speed at or beyond 83 MPH (at least on my model/year), will indicate "LO" for performance-related driving. If you see no difference in height when the Height button is activated, there is probably something worng with your Air Suspension air bags (or it is shot), or your Air Suspension has been replaced with conventional coil-over struts. I had mine replaced because they all went bad. $1000 per each air bag (at the stealer....I mean dealer) not including labor. I ordered coil-overs from Arnott Industries (http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LEXUS_Air_Suspension_Parts_yid7.html) at $649 for all 4 and did it myself. Fairly easy if you're a DIYer. If you want to replace the air bags, they have them for $399 each. The ECT button, when switched on, is for quick/fast acceleration, kind of like turbo. That's the best I can describe it. If that does not work, you may need to do a search within this forum. Hope this helps.
  20. Try the Audio Forum on this site. Click here - http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...amp;s=&f=11
  21. I would try changing the O2 sensors first. Why spend it on cats when it may not be them? I just would like to save you some money. I had issues with emissions and they told me everything was wrong...from the cats to the MAF. Cost me 3200 (US) dollars. 4 O2 sensors, 3 cats, and the MAF, plus labor. What's worse is they only secured the cats with 2 bolts instead of three causing me to replace 2 of the O2's just replaced. No doubt that this caused my next problem (code 71 - EGR malfunction) because it was running too too lean. And also TRAC codes 13 and 51 (also looking for help on how to resolve these). You fix one thing and 2 weeks later, it never fails, something else rears it's ugly head.... Good luck.
  22. Almost forgot the tutorial on how to change the fuel pump. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/fuelfilter.html
  23. it could be. Seems very easy to change. I'll be changing mine this weekend because my Lex feels just a bit sluggish. If that doesn't solve it, then on to other diagnostics.... Let me know how it turns out.
  24. Appreciate the feedback.
