  1. alright thanks for all of the great replies............... i like the idea of the toyota or honda with low miles, definitly something i will go ahead and start pricing around here. it couldn't really hurt me to put anywhere from 900-1200 in the lexus to get it up and running and if finances permit another 500-1000 to make it sexy again......then i think to statisfy my sudden addiction to speed i will yank the new 300 i-6 out of my truck and start building a project 408 stoker motor, it won't cost me phoo to park the truck and do that slowly and it will be fast fun and i can still have someting to haul and tow with, and the lex will be my primary that gets me somewhere without hurting my back or leaking oil on the carport, thanks guys for the advice i have a little bit of an idea of where to go too bad the f-body cars don't hold up that good or it'd be really nice to grab one funny that you say the clutches go out on the six speeds (it is true because of how they are driven) last weekend my buddy smoked his clutch going to third gear and still ran a 13 flat................the flywheel is now blue, you gotta pay to play and he's quick about fixing stuff because he enjoys it so much but i'm not up for that right now so let's see what i come up with in the next few weeks thanks again everybody
  2. as it does need a little but of work but drives well should it sell for 3000 or so if i was to get something else?
  3. i had a phone conversation with ocberg recently. i had found a car here in south louisiana that had been side swiped the entire front end is cherry quarter panels hood grill lights bumber all of it and the engine seems to be in great shape with accessories the guys said all for 1000 the question is i know they are not interchangable but if he had the entire assembly to match would it bolt up? i can't seem to get time to go out there and pull up my 94 next to it to see so i was hoping we could get some LEXUS professionals to hook it up.........so lets get the brains moving again and see what we can come up with i think i can arrange very cheap shipping too as some one owes a few favors my way
  4. i love my lex and it's in great shape, so here is my delima it has 192,000 and it's a 94 beige with aluminum alloy i'll take some pitcures this weekend and post them up to help you guys decide for me some more the interior has a few stains and the leather is worn but not torn the tint is bubling and i can easily remove it my self there is a slight grinding noise immediatly after starting that has something to do with the starter while warming up there is a bit of valve ticking( i only think it is on one cylinder) i just put new sumitumo tires on it i have all the equpiment to do timing belt job minus new plugs wires and water pump (about $250 for that stuff) i have replaced the sunroof and door handle i have repaire the reclining seat and the telescopling steering wheel there is a shake when i apply the brakes it still gets 25 mi to the gallon the paint was keyed while previous owner worked in dallas(needs i replaced the antenna mast stereo still functions great makes great power that is expected from a small v8 ohc total work in the car 1000 amount paid for the car = $0 now i use this as a secondary right now as i want to replace the timing belt before i use it as a daily driver but my primary is starting give me some serious problems and i could easily fix it with a new motor, head, fuel system and the tranny has been serviced along with new ignition system but it's starting to look like crap so i've been investigating into grabbing a trans am with about 50K with a 5.7 and a six speed i can't make up my mind should i get rid of my vehicles and get the trans am or get rid of all of them and try to find a decent lex..........i don't want put out any more than 15K right now but i want something that i don't have to fix all the time, i wouldn't bother me say if it was a 69 camaro with 426 or something like that but neither of these cars are so what the heck should i do, i'll be quitting the working world soon and going back to college so low notes are in favor of course, alright guys go to work!!!!!
  5. ouch man that car is really hot............maybe i can buy her a few drinks of high octane and take her home with me tonight?
  6. hey there is a 95 front end here in LA i looked at in a salvage yard it was totaled because of side damage, the lights bumber and hood are still in great shape......everything under the hood is still there too i think for all the front clip parts it was under 1000 but i dunno if a 95 will work for you or not
  7. hey guys if his timing is proper could it be a computer thing?.........hey also they asked you if the actual pipes were clear back to the muffler.....you said you checked but did you check back that far? just trying to help?
  8. hey as far as i know pop a lock is 24/7 you should be okay and it usually costs about 36 or so........can you tell i've done this before, and if you don't care about !Removed! up your car call the cops, they have tools but it ain't pretty?
  9. don't worry it WILL show itself, just sometimes that hurts if you can't find it early on, really do what those guys said start the car and hang out by the tail pipes, if there is alot of moisture falling out of the pipes making a puddle let it run and run and if that puddle doesn't stop growing stop the motor get some of the moisture on your hands rub it together and if it's kinda slimy most likely it's some coolant, still unlikely, but IMO if that comes up negative i wouldn't worry about the problem unitl it rears it's head more
  10. oh well i put my foot in my mouth on that one....glead to hear you got it off!
  11. yeah i'm definitly pretty sure they are regular threads but just make sure your aren't tourquing down at any funny angles or anythingdead on at a perpendicular manner.........slowly increase until is gets there, make sure you are securly and safely locking the sprockets in place and when worse comes to worse use a cheater pipe and like i said slowly increase pressure and it'll come off......i just hate to see someone have them stuck like this, but i've only done this on one car.......mine but just remember if you don't get too excited and take your time........i'm pretty sure it's left if it wasn't that'd be something i would have remembered and something that is stated often in these forums, take your time!!! good luck edit: oh hey apply a LITTLE bit of heat (maybe with a little hand torch) and then put a socket on and slightly tap with a brass or ball peen hammer and maybe that will shock it ever so gently into submission
  12. yeah wanda woods i used that post about two months ago and it helped so much thanks for that!!! If anyone has a completely shot gear that has worn out beyond shimming up or re greasing i have an extra one i pulled out that salvage car in New Orleans as that was about the ONLY thing good on the damn car........lemme know if anyone has tried this and it didn't work and i'll send out the little replacement gear i also have an extra door handle switch that turns on the accesory lights when you pull the handle while the door is locked if they NEED that too.....thanks again for the tutorial......i am also procrastinating putting up a tutorial to fix the seat recline problem on how to change the little connecting rod that strips out
  13. hey if you have a torch i've made this tool from scratch it is not hard also the com sprokets are keyed so you'll be okay basically they only go on ONE way and then when you put the new belt on line up the little white lines on the outside of the belt and it will tell you which cam just remember when it says left cam or right cam that means if the hood is up and you are facing the front of the car!!! Good luck and just take your time and user grey matter and it'll be on the road in no time.....whew mardi gras is FUN!!!!!!!!!!! what i'll feel like in the AM>>>>> :chairshot:
  14. Alright i haven't checked to see if the bulbs are any good or not yet, but i don't suspect they are. So with that being said does anyone know how to make the fog lights on my 94 turn on because i sure don't......thanks, and go east on me because this is coming from the guy that can rebuild an engine but couldn't figure out why his rear ac vents didn't work(because the little switch was off). I think it's probably ADD related. And on that note did any one hear about Osama's cousin buying 12 international airports? Bush said the paper work must have had an approval stamp accidentally fall on it before it fell behind his desk and could give it to congress.......feels good to be back!!!
  15. hey i started making a tutorial on how to replace that splined peice for the recline i just didn't finish it but the part is only 20 bucks and it's kinda tricky to install but easy enough to make a really cool 20 dollar fix to hold out a few days and i'll hook you up as far as the lumbar that shouldn't be a real big deal to fix....don't know maybe you just had a bad contact! hopefully.....
  16. i was hot rodding a old dakota and i wanted to put some brand new looking leather seat out of a mazda in it....of course i had to make custom seat brackets out of flat bar and bolted then up to the new seats it didn't take much but all you have to do is grins off the old seat mounts and then weld them into their new spots, really that's all there is to it. i wouldn't even worry about what's on the underside of the car but do remember you need to put some primer or cold galvanize on the welds inside and out (aerosol can just a little light coat) and then on the bottom to keep the floor from rusting where you make your new welds you need to spray some undercoating underneath it's actually very simple i wouldn't be scared of taking on the job if you can weld pretty good and any new welds done by someone who is fairly good will be stonger than the original mounts all together, trust me i've built armor with torches and arc welders
  17. man i want to know more about this kerosene flush.........and all those pics were done with out acutally taking anything off of the motor just making it pull it in to the intake, amazing but why did you take apart your motor leave it dirty then put it back together to clean it the seafoam way? not trying to be a jerk i am truly just wondering what transpired so i can understand how to get my motor that clean
  18. actually i think the dynamat is, i would think it had to be
  19. Just starting another little thread about a general application......... I've used sound deadening material for a few applications on other vehicles but normally they are so loud it doesn't really do a whole lot for it, I've seen a few LS with sound deadening, of course i'm sure every one has seen the Lexls one! So the two main choices here would be Dynamat Xtreme or the Fat Mat i see on ebay which that stuff doesn't look too bad either because it's 40 mils and you can get and enourmous amount for 100. What i want to know is what works good, how well does it work in a LS, and what are some personal preferences and experiences. I'm not sure if this is a very common upgrade, as LS is very quiet to start with, but for curiousity sake i wanted to enquire. Thanks and i hope this stirs some good conversation.
  20. alright great info thanks guys, i appreciate it lots!!! :)
  21. sapper: Lemme guess, it broke between about 10:00 & 2:00 O'clock & left nice, razor sharp edges (blood spurtin' sharp) for you to play with while you were finishing up your water pump/timing belt? man how did you guess? HAHAHA!
  22. man i did that rebuild approach with my radiator shroud (any body else's complety broke apart?) but my undercover tore in half.....so ce la ve
  23. when i'm driving down the road my driver's mirror shakes just a little bit but the passenger's side is rock solid, by checking it by hand i noticed there is a little play in the mirror wheras there isn't on the other could it be something to do with those clips mentioned, any one got any ideas? rebend the clips or add shimming material felt, or go buy new clips from dealer?
  24. down here in LA blades are a pretty big deal to me too because of the rain we catch down here! on my FLAT ford windshield 2.00 blades work just fine and then i replace them every six months, but on the lex i've had really good luck with those $10 rain-X blades, i don't know what kind of technology the blade is but they are spring loaded and wipe very well without streaks at least for now, i wonder how long they'll last though!
  25. good stuff, i have 5% all around on my truck and i've never had problems here in LA but i know people that have cars that get stopped constantly i think i'm gonna go with 5 in the back and back window and then 30 in front and windshield, thanks for the tip on doing the eyebrow to disguise windshield tint, i think i might do that too!
