  1. i was wondering if that was just me or do actually have to get almost to the door handle for my keyless entry to work? i thought my key just was a dud
  2. wow how do you figure that happened? kinda wierd don't you think? man i just fixed my gas gauge by replacing two of the little capacitors on the attatched circuit board. i was so pumped up becuase it didn't cost me but about three bucks and about 15 min of fighting with those damn connectors of the backside :)
  3. yeah i'm with you man, accept i think i've written a few annoying posts. I have used this site almost exclusively also. And it has already saved me ALOT of dough and also squashed my perception of domestics vs. imports to an extent! I am also about to do a big job myself. No quite that extent mainly engine mechanical components. But i have a few questions for you: the sway bar cusioners, dampner, and torsion bar links were changed. How hard was that? I know you most likely did it because you were going all out on getting that car on the road so you wouldn't have to do it again. were there any symptoms that made you do it though? thanks
  4. Hey everyone today i went to a HUGE junk yard and there was ONE LS there. I gave the guy ten bucks and he said take what you want.... The interior is shot unless you have to have some plastic, it's all maroon interior though. There really isn't much to get either, but if there is something that someone has to have and is in a tight spot for, post a reply and let me see what i can do.
  5. i know people in the industry and i had the tint on dads F150 metered before we had 5% put over it, it was 15% factory. no we cant see out the back at night LOL. i know why the front 2 arent tinted to match. i was simply saying i dont understand why they havent done it on cars yet, especially higher end ones. you have proven the point that it wouldnt suit the needs of the buyer and if it does than its something that can be added on at marginal cost. point taken. I see where you are coming from. I would still like to see it offered though, even if it was a special order option, because at some point, tint added to the glass via film fades, cracks, scratches, peels or dulls. tint from the factory, where the glass would actually be tinted, not a film placed over it, wont do any of the above. just my taqke on things...other than that, i love the car. kudo's to lexus, just when you thought it couldnt get any better! i never liked the idea of putting anything illegal on my vehicle, but after i got back from over seas i didn't want to see the sun i put 5% all the way a around and 20% on the windshield i love it and i'd have it no other way after doing it, as like as you don't drive or act disrespectful on the road the cops don't mess with you but i still hope lexus doesn't pre tint them or at least you can get clear glass, i'd like to do my own especially the back glass because it's so hard to back up in a car versus a truck.....my little peice on that
  6. yeah mine are at zero with ignition off
  7. i have salvaged a whole load of parts for this car but i can NEVER EVER FIND a driver's outer door handle hook me up man, i'll pay pal you if you want thanks
  8. when i woke up this morning and re soldered the two capacitors for the gas gauge fix that worked great! thanks for more input everyone, by the way anyone who is afraid to solder the new capacitors, in let me tell you it' s worth it, and very satisfying waiting on more parts before i can continue much further. i'll keep up dating as more gets done.
  9. hey there, i just took the back seat of my car seat off to fix the reclining problem, because of the connecting rod. it's was fairly easy, i'll post some pictures later for anyone else who might need a hand
  10. hey thanks for the advice, i got a set of calipers just not digital ones to check it with, it'll just be slower. As far a s discrepancies what range can they vary to? Thanks for all the input man i never thought of wet sanding them that's great stuff.
  11. hey you guys are a great asset. i got everything ordered minus water pump (115 @ dealer but on back order) that and some plug wires and plugs and i'll be set. prolly go ahead and do accessory stuff too. but yeah i'm gonna do the seals at same time. Put a set of sumitumo tires on today! ride great of course i'm used to mud grips on my ford. but i don't hear any noise from them. actually there is this so tiny tiny tiny faint noise coming from under the dash. i'm gonna have someone drive me around tomorrow while i take it apart. so far i have gotten seat recline bar fixed telescoping motor new seat belt motor accressory lights sunroof glass tires repainted center caps timing belt tensioner wiper blades ordered: thermostat gasket o ring idler 1 and 2 fr crank seal cam seals ignition rotors soon to get: water pump plugs and wires pcv valve gas tank gasket i got two problems right now: please give me some ideas I have a shimmy problem only when i brake especially at high speeds! interstate etc. could this be the rotors? they don't have a bright luster like i am used to seeing more like a dingy color not polished at all, should i turn them? do i need to replace pads at same time? also my gas gauge kinda works if you give it about and hour to get to where it is supposed to be other than that it just sits there, any one got an idea on that one?! also the two vents going to the back seat in the console do not work. oh crap one other thing i am trying to get my phone hooked back up disconnected about a year ago! anyone got an idea on that one? i would like to use the original and have a small plan because of it's power and range! if there is anything you can comment on this say it please, even if it starts with "wow you are a dumb A$$"
  12. you said no misfires but are you getting spark to each plug? best way to test is to take one plug out, ground the threads to block, then roll motor. If you see a spark (and you will see it!) replace it and move on to the next one. The coil wouldn't be a big deal if it cost 10 dollars like american vehicles but i'd try that first. when you see each plug firing that will eliminate alot of doubts for you hopefully and you can try something else if that ain't it. oh forgot to mention when you are holding the plug that is still in the wire's boot, hold it by the rubber when testing, those things hurt. And you may have to have someone roll the motor for you while you watch, it will be a split second, just barely touch starter and you should see your spark.
  13. I was curious about the tint on a salvaged sun roof glass i ordered. I recently saw in the email that he sent me after i ordered it that it had bronze tint! i want to just have black later on down the road. Is the bronze tint noticeable? can i take that bronze out by adding some black tint? Is that lexus bronze dyed into the glass or can it be removed? i'm gonna be a little mad if i have some dumb looking glass for my sunroof! if anyone doesn't mind let me know what you think!
  14. As far as fuel injector cleaning goes the best luck i ever had was on a mahince degined to clean them. It costs about eighty dollars or so. It's made by snap on and there is a special fluid that it uses. I had it done on my ford f150 with 200,000+ and it worked like a charm.....what they do id purge your gas into a tank in the machine. Then, they add their snap on fuild. They completly disonnect your fuel system and plug into your intake then run the pump one way to clean the injectors then in reverse to clean cylinder heads, valves and plugs, works great and takes about two hours. You can probably find someone locally at a well setup shop.
  15. sweet thanks for the pic. about the cams i was looking at that break down. is there only one cam seal, strange i know there is more than one cam but why only one seal. i'm gonna take a closer look
  16. my email is cullen.stagg@us.army.mil lemme know what you got as far as part numbers
  17. oh no i appreciate the input, cool stuff. figures on the semi syn stuff. ahh well i guess i'll be switching to mobil 1 soon. i was just curious as to why the wix filter is shorter than toyota's
  18. eight inch woofer in back dash on this car read instal on the lexls site
  19. Hey i was wondering is anyone here is using a Wix filter on their LS? I know Wix has some of the best filters, but when i compared it to my old toyota filter is was la little shorter 2 cm or so. Anyone know if this is a horribly bad thing i just figured it would change how far the filter reached and no oil pressure lights came on. Also i usually use synthetic blend castrol on all on my vehicles because is contains the least addivitves as far as i've read. Anyone got some info to compare with mine?
  20. nahh it's not the pump that was replaced about teen thousand ago. it's a really loud creak exactly like stressing a thick peice of wood. yeah i'll trying cleaning solenoid first, clean out the boot and surrounding area and see if it continues to leak
  21. don't know man try flushing it or forcing it out some way i'm not real familiar with my lexus yet as i am a fairly new owner domestic different story hang on now that i think about it find a bigger hose inch and half or so squeeze it in there and use it like a funnel? something like that
  22. i'm down with the shop theory i had just powder coated a set on rims on my ford at home and brought them to get mounted and balanced. while handling them without the tire on they were dropped from a bout a three foot height. I was *BLEEP*ed cause it scratched my powder coat but luckily they were steel so it didn't do !Removed! to em my guess is shop because it didn't do it before and a rim just doesn't crack i might understand it in some extreme stress conditions
  23. hey look try getting some long socket extensions and universal joints or adapters ( they let you wrench on something at an angle, don't get to rough they slip until you get the hang of it) either that or MAKE room by diconnecting other stuff. keep reading and maybe you can contact the guy that wrote the article on lexls and maybe he can expalin or send you some better pic when he gets the chance, he seems pretty passionate about helping lexus owners
