  1. hey army i heard the same thing about 3m, and whenever i've used 3m produst they've always been top notch......sometimes a little too good. but my tint on my 94 LS peeled, cracked and bubbled up. i heard it was becuase of windex. but i know it never came in contact with a bunch of windex, is that normal with 191,000? i was kinda disappointed because i know how good 3m is and that meant when i started stripping it it was gonna be tough.....and it was!!! but hey i figure almost any tint will last the rest of the life of my car anyway, if anyone has some suggestions, shoot em my way
  2. yeah word.....if it's a bent rim after all keep in mind there are repair sevices for that so you don't have to drop 1000, my buddies camaro SS had a bent one. made a littel shake at top speed, it cost 140 to have it fixed they can even fix cracked rims. just something to ponder in case you are dreading costs, also what about that driveshaft bushing, i've seen the OEMs pretty cheap. could that be causeing your driveline to be out of wack? just a thought, i'm sure you've already looked into it though. Have a good one...............ugh i gotta go back to New Orleans. Katrina!
  3. sorry off subject...........DO IT BIG ARMY!!!!WHOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!! Need something PM me asap i'll send it asap. I just got back OIF 3!!!
  4. hey i actually have the same problem as i have noticed in a few other posts! My car A) the front passenger lock doesn't operate correctly when it's cold outside, when the other three will work just fine B) the door when someone tries to close it will not stay closed, when it's cold outside, HOWEVER, when you try to slam it even harder it has no effect, i would take it and gently close then pull the arm rest firmly!!!! and the door would latch. Take it top a body shop and have them adjust the door back properly from the hinges or maybe just move the striker a little bit. I took my door apart then put lubriplate all over the components. That may or may not be it but that's my two cents. Have a good one!
  5. from a practical stand point, i would consider purchasing the 97, mainly due to the 98 being interference, the 97 was the last year it wasn't, just something to think about
  6. leatherseats.com has the new covers for seats, headrests, and center console for 450 it also comes with the foam attatched to the upholstry like factory i think
  7. there are a lot more experienced fellas with this car and imports, but that doesn't sound right even for a domestic vehicle. unless something was really out of wack, tires, suspension? you might want to do a search on the forum. also is it the fronts and rears? or just fronts? check out this really long thread.......
  8. i have a problem with my air conditioner.........okay no matter where i set the output to, floor, windshield, or the main vents it blows there but also out of the side vent(closest to the windows) but the centers do like they are supposed to turning on and off according to where i set the output.ie if i put it on main vent, the outside vents blow stronger than the center, and if i put it on floor, it blows to the floor but still out of the two side vents.....but the center ones shut off like they would if it was functioning normally also the vents in the centter console, pointing to the rear do not work at all no matter where i set the output to. does any one have any ideas.........i'm thinking its a relay but haven't found which one might be responsible. a big fear of me putting money into an older vehicle is that it will hiccup and drop a valve or start burning oil.............so i started looking up a new set of rings and a set of heads, just for curiosity's sake, is this right? if it is, i think everyone on this forum should get a new set of heads so that we can have our LEXUS for twenty more years, OOOHHH YEAH....i'll stop now.....got a little worked up for a second there, oh yeah a set of rings is 400 bucks though what gives??? maybe there are no valves, keepers or spings in there?
  9. sorry i thought you were saying you were going to jam the cams in order to loosen the crank......yeah there are cam locks, however i just fabricated a fork looking deal to stick in between the spokes and then bolt down the handle to another bolt. some thin flat bar, a small torch, and a power drill outta work and you should get away with a set of reusable cam pully locks for about 10 bucks the air wrench will be nice to have though, trust me, you might want to look up a set of sockets for that wrench, usually 20-30 at harbor frieght
  10. i ordered mine online for 19 bucks try ebay!
  11. you keep talking about stopping the cams if you are jamming the crank or not the cams will either turn ro not because they are connected to the crank BEHIND what you are trying to loosen and are run by the TB, so don't use the starter trick and try to jam the cams at the same time, actually don't try to stop them under any circumstance or you will cause damage.......i may not be understanding exactly what you are trying to say but i just wanted to keep you from hurting your motor just in case
  12. Yeah i'm sorry i couldn't make it either. I'm actually at work right now. it's slow but i have to stay present! I'm glad the meet went good! Thanks for the pride in the military and i'm looking forward to a lexus meet in the future!
  13. as for the prices i have seen i wouldn't pay more than 150 for a set of rear rotors and 100 for a set of front and any more than 100 for a full set of pads
  14. yep i can get both of those although the switch might not work an it's possible the headlight is full of gulf salt water
  15. hey i was curious......everyone was talking about a funny noise, my starter works just fine but right after the motor starts, there is a grinding noise like something has to finish slowing down, anyone got any ideas because i'm about to change the timing belt some seals and a few other things so should i change my starter at the same time?
  16. uh the plastic covers are missing i know that much but i can probably get that other plastic cover! any one else! i'm gonna try to make one trip if i can so let me know, like i said it's almost all trashed but i can get some stuff i think.
  17. yeah i had the same problem on an olds i had awhile back....... yeah i tried the noise filters that instal under the dash into the unit that didn't work now one thing i would do is have the brushes cleaned on the alternator, then i would definitly replace it if that didn't fix it
  18. i know this is gonna suck but the hood is buckled and the fender isn't dented it just looks like someone ran a serious grinder down the side of it.......i'll try to post some pictures yeah i can see what i can do.........i couldn't get in trunk last time and i didn't want to mess anything up! but i'll pull up the back deck and see if i can get it out that way
  19. it's all in what kind of beast you want really i wouldn't dog out the american too much. when something goes out on my domestic stuff i can A) fix it myself for under 100 in the SAME DAY B) find any replacement part thats over 100 buck in a salvage yard all day long. So ford I-6 has a lot of miles and drives PERFECT and i only have a little bit of money in it. I mean for crying out loud a whole new head costs 250 BRAND NEW. Although i have a lexus when my pocketbook goes broke my american vehicle always seems to be running, and when i do regular maintainence on it it NEVER seems to break down. I ran my olds 88 to 200,000 plus miles too with no and i mean NO replacements except for a power steering seal until the timing chain popped then i threw the whole car away. But all in all the driving expereince is 0-60 with the Dom Vs Asian.
  20. yeah i definitly hear ya on that one, plus that cannot be healthy for it in the first place so it could reduce engine life!
  21. yeah i think i got a fix for you at least you could try it,it will only cost you about 1.50 to try it then if not i think i know what to do but gimmie some more info. is it just that needle? if so let me know there is a 212 capacitor that makes some of the needles go out and takes about an hour to do it even with no experience, click here and there's alot of info> look for that c212 capacitor and call radio shak and ask for a 16v/10uf should be 99 cents! i'd definitly try that first. Thanks to Blake918 for showing me that thread!!! Keep me updated! If nothing else there is that parts car i mentioned earlier i could snag it and see what happens!! Oh and there is always these losers........... click here
  22. last night i was looking on ebay and there was a set of OEM gripforce rotors for like 90 the drilled and slotted ones were like 140 a pair. do a search and see what you come up with
  23. uh i think i can do the plastic bezel. everything thing else is toast though, i'll get back to ya
  24. okay well it had a chance to soak in about nine feet of water but i'll snag it for ya. it probably won't match in color but there is a vinyl die that dupont makes that you can get a pint or so mixed up and then spray it, prolly coat you about twenty bucks or so. Don't get the sem tek stuff it only works on soft vinyl! unless you just need that little socket. Uh it might work you may just have to clean it or use some chemicals on whatever contacts it has. But i will see what i can do!
  25. hey i woke up one morning and someone had replied to a post about my gas gauge, i had ZERO experience with a soldering iron and i'm clumsy as hell too. I went to radio shak bought the three dollars in parts and a iron for eight and had that thing fixed in less than an hour, i even changed the little 212 capacitor that makes the display go out when it's cold outside. LESS THAN AN HOUR. Look peeps if you don't feel like trying it or are scared to try it just don't pay for than 40 or fifty bucks ESPECIALLLY if you have to take it out of the car your slef. Look at this stuff on ebay what a loser : . LEXUS owners beware, you may drive an expensive car but over paying for repairs makes the experience less enjoyable. I'm not sure who Jim Walker is either but since everyone on the site here seems to recommend him he must be reasonable, so try him first! I hate ripoffs here is another! Notice how he doesn't take paypal, yeah send him cash and see what you get in the mail! Look i know people are trying to make a living but if anyone thinks i am being un reasonable by getting upset about this let me know why.
