  1. i know this might get pushed to a general forum (by the way where is this audio forum i've seen posts about on here?) but i was curious if there were any law enforcement officers in here and what their state's laws are on window tint and what might cause them to stop a vehicle for a violation. i've been doing research on it and it seems like there are some serious differences between states. just opening a thread to get some different facts
  2. yeah dealer or you can snag some for a few bucks at a tire shop which is what i did, uh if i can look up exactly what i got, it's some kind of shank nut, you'd prolly be safest if you go dealer though but like i said tire shop is alot cheaper if you can figure out exactly what you need, maybe ask them they might even know at the tire shop but my shop was a little skepitcal about putting anything not oem on mine i was also looking at some rims on ebay tell me how smoothly your transaction goes and if you can what seller it's from, thanks
  3. oh well i guess it just ain't the same as american! i just changed my head on my ford truck last weekend.....haha it had less than fifty pounds because the manifold wasn't tourqued on right and leaked and then you know what that did to valves, so i had to shave the manifold, rebuild the injectors and then slap on a new head and makes great power again with 180 lbs of compression, all for under 500 bucks, crazy to even try to compare the foreign to domestic i guess
  4. yeah the only thing is that they won't give me a waranty but like i said i know most of the mechanics and there is one in particular that has 20 plus years with toyota ONLY and he's really good the others just really suck all around and turn out crappy work........sorry if any of them are reading this. so that's why i kinda am scared to let em do it, there is a place in NO called express lane auto i think and they advertise timing belt changes for like 375........i want to call them some time and see what kind of warranty they offer. i really want to do it myself because it doesn't look that hard but EVERYONE i know says not to. i mean hell like 5 mecahnics in my town said they just didn't WANT to do it
  5. But Blake has a '95 model which had some updated engine features, including (presumably) improved oiling to the particular valve lifters that tended to suffer wear on the first generation LS400 motor. I know for sure from first hand experience and reading other posts that the '90 & '91 models have this wear problem and it can show up as a ticking noise at warm idle in as little as 70,000 miles. i was reading the sevice schedule for the car and it actually says that the adjustment is supposed to be done at 60,000, hey blake if you have the info what does your car call for if it is even in the manual? hey do you think it would be possible in theory to increase oil flow by chaffering or polishing journals, and yeah there is a slight tapping at warm idle especially when first accelerating, it levels out after a bit of driving though
  6. i dunno where the name came from but i read that it was 2300 people, anyone here got the lexus book, i'm interested about the name thing too actually
  7. well i don't even think i'm gonna try to mess with mine at all then, not if they can hold up to that kind of milage, i'm way under that right now, i really thought about trying to freshen the heads up but it just really is impractical when there are about a million other things that i could throw 1000 dollars at i guess, after reading the service manual too i might check and adjust myself because it's too easy (more like an american vehicle that i expected) and i'd hate to give up 600 to the dealership even if i can't adjust them for some reason they still can't be that far out of adjustment
  8. i got mine from antennamastsrus.com it works fine, i live in south la, where rust has rust on it but the key thing was that i lubed it up really well with fresh lubriplate, seems to be working, i'd definitly check out that site though, got it from an ebay auction for 20 and it's the exact same length as the original
  9. hummm well here's some links, good luck! lexls tutorial short thread on this subject
  10. Interesting...... I've never known ANY dealership that would install mechanical or electric parts that were furnished by a customer 1) because they are losing money on the parts sale, 2) beacuse they're not OEM spec and they can't/won't provide any warranty on the parts, and 3) to avoid any possible headaches that will pop up if the parts prove defective or are wrong. yeah the belt tensioner and pump are lexus and the idlers are an oem brand too
  11. yeah it takes a while but if you pull it off while applying the heat gun at the same time there is no clean up it just comes off, and there isn't any residue, like i said though you gotta make sure that you are applying direct heat to what you are pulling up, but if you don't feel like it i've heard that technique too from tint guys even one guy said he used STRAIGHT AMONIA then let it set in the sun like that...........so they both work, cheers tell us how you come out and what worked for you do a google search i saw an article where a guy used the steamer, maybe you can get some ideas there
  12. okay i did this last week. the best way to do it is for me to show you but i'll try to explain.......... alright first , stanless steel razors one for each window that you can get at wal mart, i used a heat gun and it worked great, i've heard the same about the steamer. this is what i did, rolling the window down just a bit to where i could acess the top edge i applied heat (always used heat on low the whole time, slow but easier to peel the tine) to where the tint starts i then used the razor to peel up a corner of it............now here's where the catch 22 is........tint is in two layers, a dyed film on top and then the sticky stuff on the bottom, you gotta get them BOTH UP, if you don't it's not that its a huge deal but you will spend some serious time getting that stuff off with paint thinner......so moving on here when you get that corner up you can apply heat and begin pulling but you won't get all the glue to come with it so begin working that coner up applying heat to the tinted area directly at crease that is coming off, you'll see that if you move too fast and don't get it hot enough a little residue will stick, so you'll figure out the speed i worked all the way across the top then started pulling down on the whole sheet, doing it like that is slow and you'll see where the glue starts to stick so just move your gun back and forth real slow and keep the tint warm, i'm gonna do a turtorial here soon on the back window cause it's a pain........defroster lines wear a set of gloves and use paint thinner to clean off the extra stuff left behind and don't have any fear of the razors, you don't need to apply much pressure with a fresh razor to make the tint come up so don't get too rough........you can't scratch your glass at all with that razor unless you are using excessive force trust me just make sure you use a fresh one on each window.........good luck!!! it is actually very easy once you try it
  13. i am not entirely sure about this but i dont' think it gets dirty enough to clean, unless of course it a very very dusty climate, but i dont see why if you don't use anything abrasive or caustic on the sensor you should be okay
  14. do a search that question has been covered a few times over i do believe
  15. I'd avoid that service dept like the bubonic plauge. You should call the BBB on them for quoting $616 for a valve adjustment LOL; if you move at a dying turtle's pace, it would still take well under 3 hours. I know you drive back and fourth between Jennings and NOLA, so LeBlanc would be a better choice. They are honest and disgustingly polite. They are about 5-10 minutes from i10 on Airline. Lex of NO service is a joke. humm thanks for the info blake i'll them soon, i had the dealer ship here in jennings quote me 300 dollars max, to change timing belt and water pump if i brought my own parts, that's not a bad deal either, i know some of the mehcanics too, lemme know what you think
  16. not trying to be impractical about it but like i stated in another thread it's gonna cost me 616 bucks to have the valves adjusted, yeah i could probably do it myself but i'm gonna pay them and have it done, so that when a valve falls into the cylinder and screws the motor i can say hey....why didn't you tell me it was messed up( i told them if it looks bad then let me know so i can put new heads on there, instead of wasting money for a temp fix)
  17. okay it's on the list, i'm about two weeks behind getting to this stuff, but i'm still adamate about seeing if i can get a bunch of stuff off of it
  18. hey fellas i went in and got a quote at my lexus dealer ship here in New Orleans so here we go timing belt and water pump replacement along with tensioner and idlers ~1100 valve adjustment~616 rack replace~414 anyone need the numbers just pm me or reply on this thread
  19. yeah the lubriplate worked for me and i think it'll be a while before the door needs adjusting but i was just saying that if it's noticeable that the door is stressed when closed or that there is play(door open grab the bottom lift up and down, should'n't be play) that there may be some adjusting but yeah lubriplate worked okay, door really isn't too hard to take apart so i'd consider lubing first
  20. ya know that's all fine and dandy, in other countries where the us operates we shoot people on site for theft, mainly because it puts soldiers at risk trying to arrest someone who seems suspicious, no one says much about that! if it were me i would have probably shot him in the knee and never felt sorry about it. why you ask? because he took it for granted that he could do it and i'll take it for granted that he has violated rights and priviliges of another human being.......something i don't take very lightly to, and in my state theft or ATTEMPTED theft of property constitutes up to and including deadly force if so inclinded becuase of the theifs intentions or body language, trust me i would have just shot, been there done that, dont tread on me
  21. yeah it's a first cousin, durn and my hood keeps falling!!!! nope that's not right but i'm too late.........i think he got it!!! good stuff!!!
  22. i remember seeing a thread on adjusting the brake, it was very thourough as it was causing a brake/ balance problem something like that
