  1. The wires for the three rear sensors could all be in the same cable if its anything like the parking aid system installed by Lexus dealers in Europe on several models: http://www.lexus-tech.eu/aimuploads/%7B9BFB5B18-7535-9E71-C492-01C5BD4B7535%7D/TPA800%20RHD%20PZ464-K0425-00%20AIM%20000%20318-2.pdf You haven't had your rear bumper cover off the car for repairs, have you? If so, maybe someone didn't plug the sensors in.
  2. Yours is the second thread I've read in the past couple of months from someone who thought the Lexus he bought had park assist with invisible sensors. The "top" option package ("Navigation System with Backup Camera Package with Additional Options") comes with Intuitive Parking Assist. The "bottom" option package ("Premium Package with Additional Options") does not. Here is a thread where a couple of people installed a park assist system on their RX's: http://us.lexusowner...showtopic=72550 I seriously doubt that you are going to find any aftermarket park assist kt that is going to " integrate with the Lexus electronics". Even the dealer installed Lexus branded kits sold by Lexus dealers in Europe (install instructions in the above link) don't really integrate. I know I've seen park assist kits with color options for the sensors -- got Google? Or buy a can of white spray paint as the guys in the above referenced thread did.
  3. Just follow the maintenance schedule and fix things when they break. It's that simple.
  4. The brake light switch is at the top of the brake pedal lever. I don't know if aftermarket brake light switches are available for your car but they are fairly inexpensive from online Lexus parts suppliers. Do your brake lights work?
  5. The approximately $250 sat radio kits for Lexus on eBay come with installation instructions which usually involve pulling the head unit or navigation unit out of the dash to access the back of the unit. I've never heard anyone say that it can be done by just removing the glovebox but maybe it is possible. I wouldn't pay much attention to what a car salesman says.
  6. Although you didn't say what problem your current engine has, my suggestion would be to look for a used engine from a salvage company and would speculate that buying a used engine would be far less expensive than having your current engine rebuilt by somebody else. I've completely rebuilt engines and it is a tedious and time consuming job. I've also bought factory rebuilt engines (Mercedes) and they are a complete bargain compared to having a mechanic rebuild one or even doing it yourself if you factor in the cost of your time. If your car is not a daily driver, I suppose you could rebuild it yourself and farm out the difficult work to machine shops if you don't have the tools to do it yourself. Used engines can be pretty cheap. Have you looked for one?
  7. The older gen 1 LS400 windows are a very different size - I used to have a 90 LS sitting by my 2000 LS in the garage and I measured the windows and doors and was surprised at how big the difference was. $900 isn't all that bad since the retail price of the glass alone is about $650 according to http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/parts/lexus-glass-sub-assy-front-door-lh~68102-50090.html
  8. The most common cause of the shift lever not wanting to come out of Park is a defective brake light switch at the top of the brake lever - inexpensive to replace ... $50? Do your brake lights light up?
  9. I don't think there is any "programming" for keys on the 1990 LS400 like there is on the later LS400. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is that what "programming" there is amounts to installing a new computer chip in the receiver behind the trim panel on the driver side of the trunk. That is why replacement remotes keys and the chip are sold as a set. A set of two remote keys and a matching chip fall from $320 to $273.60 at Sewell with a car forum discount: http://lexus.sewellp...-1990/2766.html
  10. I thought the radio security code feature was discontinued on U.S. spec Lexus models in the mid-1990s. What does your owners manual say? You might want to write down the radio frequencies for the selection buttons so you can reprogram the radio back to the way you had it after you replace the car battery. I keep a list of the programmed frequencies in my owners manual to make it easier.
  11. And it's been only three years since you and I discussed Eagle Eyes here. :whistles: Am I correct to assume that the OEM foglights won't fit next to the Eagle Eyes low/high beam unit? The thought the OEM foglights on the 90 LS I had were quite good and produced substantially more light than the foglights on my 2000 LS400. I particularly liked that the gen 1 LS foglights were amber. How are the high beams on the Eagle Eyes? I don't remember anyone commenting about them. Shims are available for adjusting the sunroof - I had to have the sunroof on my 90 LS adjusted once or twice after it was replaced.
  12. I certainly wouldn't call it "mean-spirited" and I don't think you will find any Canadian Lexus dealer that will tamper with your odometer. There are lots of U.S. specification cars with displays that cannot be switched to metric. What's the problem with leaving the odometer in miles? My Ontario family doesn't worry about this when they import cars from the US. I had no problem mentally converting kilometers to miles, Celsius to Fahrenheit, etc. in the five years I drove a Canadian spec Mercedes here in the U.S.
  13. I can't imagine a service warranty on a 10 year old car being cost effective. They are usually a bad deal on new cars unless you get them at the true wholesale cost and they are to cover a vehicle with known quality issues. Here is an interesting article about automobile service warranties: http://www.consumerr...rranties-ov.htm
  14. Steve, has there been a change? I don't see this on the LS460 list of customizable LPS settings in the owners manual or on the attached list.. LS460_LPS.pdf
  15. No, and quit calling me Shirley. Seriously, countless people have asked the same question. If I am looking at the same navigation manual you have, page 263 says that you can change the Unit of Measure from miles to kilometers. There used to be a company in Toronto that changed clusters on U.S. spec Lexus cars to metric but it's been years since I saw information about them. Doing that means pulling the cluster, voiding warranties, etc.
  16. I haven't bought from this company but it was the first one that came up when I searched on the part number: http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/components/2004-lexus-is300~rear-disc-brake-caliper-dust-cover-47-07-1608.html The page says "2004" but http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_U_2002_LEXUS_IS300_JCE10L-AEAVFA_4707.html gives the same part number for the 2002 IS.
  17. Why do your calipers need replacing? That's seems unusual. And are the rotors worn down below the minimum specification? Can't they just be machined? I would expect your rotors to last much longer - 200,000 miles plus. And are your brake pads worn down to 1 mm which is usually the minimum thickness on Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Normally a rear brake job including machining the rotors and replacing the pads with OEM pads should run between $200 and $250 from my experience. Maybe you have a problem but it sounds like they are trying to milk you as much as they can. Maybe find an independent shop specializing in Lexus or just take it to a Lexus dealer.
  18. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it's most likely a duck.
  19. The forum search feature might again be having problems - the search results are not viewable on my Windows 7 / Internet Explorer 9 system. I am fairly certain that it was working properly recently.
  20. A common cause of a problem like that is a clogged HVAC drain tube. I haven't had it on a Lexus but I sure have on other makes. The way I have solved it is the pull the tube up out of where it runs through the floor and then to gently ream the tube out with a flexible small rod. The attached diagram has an arrow pointing at the HVAC drain tube. But of course, the problem could be caused by something else such as a clogged sunroof drain tube - see the second diagram below..
  21. There is info about what can cause a quishy brake pedal after a pad change at http://steve-mcfarlane.suite101.com/troubleshooting-fading-soft-or-spongy-brake-pedals-a245778 What do you mean by "steering will not snap back"? Is it not tending to recenter after turning a corner? Are you talking about the steering column tilt?
  22. Per the first post in this thread, look near the accellerator pedal. The arrow in the attached diagram points to the filter.
  23. Sorry I missed this thread ... could have provided this link to how the Lexus park aid system is installed on the RX400h by Lexus dealers in Europes: http://www.lexus-tech.eu/aimuploads/%7B9BFB5B18-7535-9E71-C492-01C5BD4B7535%7D/TPA800%20RHD%20PZ464-K0425-00%20AIM%20000%20318-2.pdf
  24. I think this google search might be useful: http://www.google.co...iw=1846&bih=900 I'm not having much luck with the search feature of this forum today (broken?) but I think someone said it was the Acura TL 17" inch spare wheel with a T145/70R17 tire than came with the Dynamic Package. Here is a link to info on Sewell's website about the official SC430 spare tire kit: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/pdf/SC430SPARE.pdf
