I randomly picked the diagrams for the Celsior B Specification sold in Japan -- maybe you can identify the parts you are looking for: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/g_J_1992_TOYO...10-AEPGK_4.html Choose another spec level if yours is different. My understanding is that the rear light systems of Celsiors are typically modified to meet local requirements when imported into the U.K. -- for example to change the light modules on the boot lid to function as rear fog lights. If your car has been so modified, you may have to trace the wires to determine their functions.
  2. Yes, all Lexus HID systems have the automatic leveling feature and reset the headlight beam level each time the car is started based on level sensors on the front and rear suspension that sense how heavily the car is loaded.

One of several ways you can tell if you have factory HID is by looking at your headlight lenses. If factory HID, "D2R" will be stamped into each lens.

  5. With an ohmmeter after disconnecting them. PPS: Resistance between terminals VC and E2 should be 1.64 - 3.28 kilohms at 20° C (68° F) TPS: Resistance between terminals VC and E2 should be 1.25 - 2.35 kilohms at 20° C (68° F)
  6. Your car has been doing this for eight years and you have never had the problem diagnosed? :whistles: I might start at the accelerator pedal and have the PPS and TPS checked.
  7. A "feature" of most Lexus models is that the HVAC system does not remember the previous setting of the outside air/recirculation mode each time the engine is shut off and restarted. Many have complained. I don't like the way it works either. When your A/C is turned off, each time you start your engine, manually put the HVAC into outside air mode and see if that solves the problem.
  8. If only they had paved roads in NE Tennessee, ;) , your engine would be nice and clean. Actually, I've seen far, far, far worse than yours. The gen 1 LS400 engine bay really is a "work of art" -- much nicer than later models that had plastic shrouds covering all the naughty bits. I'll never forget opening the hood of my first LS in the company parking lot back in early 1990 one noon and having a crowd gather and marvel over an engine architecture that, at the time, was available only on exotic cars like Ferrari. Probably all you need is a little spray "degunker" and brushes of various sizes to clean it up nicely ... and then a light spray from a garden hose to wash the dirt away. It really is possible to keep an engine compartment perfectly clean -- that is, if you are not continually driving on dirt and gravel roads. All it takes is a light washing of the engine compartment every few weeks. I've done it on LS400s for nearly 20 years and never had any drivability problems from doing it. Even when I don't wash the engine compartment, I wipe down all reachable components with a damp towel every time I wash tje car's exterior. I even wax all the paintwork in the engine compartment with cleaner wax about once a year -- probably don't spend more than ten minutes doing it. Try a little harder!

  10. Ask "they" for the rest of the keys -- the flat key and the two valet keys. Maybe "they" can get them from the previous owner. Although I've used the flat key only a couple of times in 19+ years of Lexus ownership, it sure was nice to have when I needed it. It's a little bulky but I always carry it in my wallet.
  11. Many issues can cause the "Check Engine Light/VSC/Trac Off dash lights" -- have the dealer check for stored codes. I counted 79 items in the list of "Technical Service Bulletins and Recalls" for the 2005 ES330 in the ARRC database. Don't worry. It may sound like a lot but most are informational. I suggest you review the list either by getting it from your Lexus dealer or by checking ARRC or some other website. ARRC can be accessed through the websites of many public libraries -- usually requires a library card and password. Parts can be obtained at discount from many websites. Lists of the companies have been posted on this forum in the past. One good one is parts.com.
  12. The LS, GS and ES are very different cars in the way they drive and "feel" and in interior and trunk space. I certainly don't consider them as being interchangable except that all will get you to your destination in comfort. Which one do you prefer? An LS will be substantially more expensive to maintain than an ES and somewhat more expensive to maintain than a GS.

The following Floridia company repaired the Nak in my 00 LS but they seem to be getting out of the Nak repair business due to the lack of parts availability: http://www.carstereohelp.com/lexus.htm The webpage I supplied says you can send for a "Nakamichi Troubleshooting" guide. The right side speakers of my Nak system were cutting out early last year. I assumed it was an amp problem before I put my Nak amp in a friends car to test it. The problem turned out to be a loose connection in the balance control of the head unit. They resoldered it and it has worked fine ever since. You might try contacting them -- I found them very helpful.

  15. I can "nail" the correct HomeLink button in my LS without even looking -- it's automatic for me ... probably from years of practice. How do you find the button for the overhead light? Is it lighted at night? You are right though. It would be nice if every single control was lighted.
  16. Personally, I rarely bother with alignment or tire balance unless I detect uneven wear or vibration -- but I monitor tires closely. We've had sets of tires last their entire lifetime and wear out evenly without being rebalanced a single time -- particularly on front wheel drive cars like the four Hondas we've owned and the Camry we have now. Your situation could be different than ours -- I'm just telling you what has worked for us. You do not have to use a Lexus dealer for an oil/filter change and tire rotation. I've almost always done this type of work myself unless the car was still under warranty and I was taking the car in for warranty work anyway. If you are at all handy with cars, are watching your pennies and have a place to work on your car, buy a $4.00 Camry oil filter and oil plug gasket at a Toyota dealer, get a cheap oil filter wrench, and do the work yourself. I've always used independent Lexus repair shops for more major repairs and service. I make it a point to bring the car back to the Lexus dealership just before the basic warranty expires to clean up any outstanding warranty issues but it is good to occasionally check to see if there are any new service bulletins that are apply to your car. I"d recommended against using places like Jiffylube, Walmart, Firestone, Goodyear, etc. -- a lot of damage to cars get done at places like that and we don't even want to talk about the scamming that sometimes goes some chains. If you want somebody to change your oil and can't find an indie repair shop that suits you, consider seeing how much an oil change at a Toyota dealer costs.

Additional options are to downsize to the 225/55-17 tire size on the 17 inch wheels that were standard on the 2005 LS430 or even to the 225/60-16 tires on 16" wheels that were standard on the 2001-2002 LS430. You wouldn't be the first to do either. You're kind of stuck with the sport suspension -- would be costly to switch all the components to those that came with the standard suspension.
  18. Wow! I'd love to read the fine print on that "warranty" ... e.g. when is a blemish a covered "ding" and when it is noncovered "dent"? When is it a covered scratch and when is it a noncovered gouge? Can the ding repair be done anywhere or at another Lexus dealership or only at the dealership where you purchased the car? I'm guessing that the dealer remit is less than $50 and that the rest of the $299 is kept as dealer profit. Could you scan and upload this "warranty" to this thread? I could certainly use some humor.

  20. The features you want are not listed in the "Lexus Personalized Settings" for the GS -- see the attached list. The last car I drove where the seat automatically moved all the way back on entry/exit was an Infinity M35. The feature actually made it more difficult for me to get out of the car since it positioned my body rearward of the door post and seemed to move the seat cushion to its lowest point -- I had to pull myself forward and around the door post. It was a rental car I had for around ten days and I never figured out how to turn the feature off. Maybe you need an M35 or M45! GS_LPS.pdf
  21. Sure it's possible. I did something similar in our 2000 LS400 (Magellan Roadmate on a Pro.Fit Legend Bracket) and 1998 Camry (Garmin Nuvi 260W on a Pro.Fit extension bracket). Just because it isn't listed for your RX model year, doesn't mean it will not work. Even if the G3 won't work, you can use a Panavise or other brand AMPS Garmin adapter like I did in our Camry. Pro.Fit is certainly not the only bracket company but they are my favorite. Consider sending them a question asking whether the G3 bracket will fit your 99 RX (it almost certainly will). When I asked a question a few months ago, they gave me a 10% discount code and free shipping.

Verify the maintenance records and that the transmission and differential were serviced at appropriate intervals.

  24. So there are no threads that a bolt can screw into? OK, one other idea is to ask a auto body shop to see if they could get the hooks. When my previous LS400 was severely damaged in about 1999, the body shop discarded the cargo net hooks. I didn't want to bother going back to the body shop so I tried getting replacement cargo net hooks at the Lexus dealer -- and was told that they only came with a new cargo net and not separately. I then went back to the body shop and they were able to obtain the cargo net hooks separately as collision repair parts. If "time is money", you might want to just buy a new cargo net and verify that it comes with the hooks.
