  1. just some early advice. Take a look around the engine. Look for any loose, cracked or disconnected vacumn hoses.
  2. Sounds like a great buy. Some may say it was a bit to much. But if it's as you say and had good maintance. I think it's a great deal The antenna goes up with the radio on. and down with either the radio off. Or the ignition off. Check on E-bay for replacement antenna mast, Not very expensive. It seems fairly easy to change. When your ready post a question. And someone will have the answer. Most say by changing the trans fluid and filter, You will acheive a smoother shift. Carefull of the power flushes thou. The ECT will give more response driving around town. If not done. a complete tune up and all fluid changes would be good. The suspension needs to be checked for wear. Try a can or two of seafoam to clean the fuel system, intake system. The dealer will prob. find many things. Post them here before you agree to them. Scroll to the bottom of any thread. And you will see the box with " ENTER KEYWORDS " AND THE SEARCH TOPIC button. check out the www.lexls.com site for helpfull maintance advice.
  3. Thank you again. And for the fast reply. I will take a close look at the EGR pipe. And try to fiquire out how to retreive stored codes. Walt
  4. Very interesting! First off, thank you for your reply. How did you fiqure this out? Did you have any other codes along with the 41? Or noise in the engine compartment? Thank you, Walt PS, I also am planning on pulling the ECM as LScott400 suggests. And inspecting for leaking caps. I may send it off to an ECM repair shop either way. Obvious leaks or not.
  5. I've been having a code 41 issue. I checked my code after my Ls started to stumble under an A/C load with more than a slight attempt to accelerate. Same thing on going up a slight incline. After new coils, Already has new wires, caps, rotors and plugs. There was an improvement, but still there. I replaced the under car and in the gas tank filters. I actually gained a couple of hundred RPM reading on a cold start. To 1,100 rpm. And around 50 rpm when warm. After the in tank filter change. I think it was slightly clogged. Pulling the fuel pump assem. out. The filter did not drain untill I turned it sideways. Assuming the bottom of the filter was clogged. Also throttle body cleaned twice. Many Seafoams done. And most recent BG44K. I did replace the TPS. And did many ohm meter adjustments/readjustments. I feel it is right on the specs. But the code 41 always comes back. I know that the wire harness and or ECM can be at fault. But if anyone has any advice. Please respond. Also, I have read that if a code 41 is present. The ECM goes to a fault mode. With the timming fixed a 5 degrees BTC. Do you think that this would cause the engine to stumble with a 1000-1500 drop in rpm? The rpm will not increase untill I let off the gas then press down slowly. Also there is " PUFF " sound that occurs when the engine rpm first drops. Not through the exhaust. From under the hood. Thank you, Walt
  6. I replaced my TPS on my 93ls. Cost $75.00 from Park Place Lexus- Plano Texas mail order. You will need someone to use a mulit-meter to adjust the Tps. Look at a thread search for TPS info and adjusting. O2 sensors as above. around $80.00. I have not replaced mine but it looks simple. Parts less than $300.00. Time less that 2 hours. I had code 41 before replacing my TPS. And I still have code 41 after. Some others have reported the same. The code also triggers for a bad connection and or wire harness. And could indicate a failing ECM.
  7. A repair manual ststes that cupping maybe caused by: 1) Underinflation 2) out of balance 3) bent wheel 4)loose or worn tie-rods or steering idler arm 5) loose, worn or damaged front suspension parts I always thought that it could be caused by worn shocks/struts letting the tire " bounce " as you drive.
  8. How are you cleaning the IAC? Does this happen with the seafoam via the booster hose? Or another method? Also I just replaced my plugs with Iridium's. Will I foul them with this procedure?
  9. Did the RPM increase? and no go? If RPM does increase the fisrt thing I would is change the trans. fluid and filter.
  10. What type of service or repair did the ECU rebuilder do to your new ECU? Also, if you don't mind. What did this cost? I have a 93 Ls with similur acceleration problems. But the Cel light does not come on. I do have code41. And have replaced the TPS. If you could provide a contact number for this shop. That would be great.
  11. I don't know about narrowing it down. But the list from the manual I assumed started with the most likely. Also if your car only does this around a certain temp. The O2 sensors are temp dependent for how they adhust. And the list did have the coolent temp sensor as an option.
  12. Do a keyword search for: "cost of replacement keys " . Or go to screen/page 18 for the thread; cost of replacement keys. Look at MMOZZAM and SWO3ES threads
  13. Check with a Lexus dealer. And search the forun for info on key repacement. It seemed that Lexus was offering a one time programed key/ecu replacement for free. Some folks said they had to be persistent to get this from the dealer. But in the end got it. Good luck.
  14. Welcome! I Love my 93Ls also. Though I do have problems with mine, I accept this as part of the package. I see that you are in Athens, GA. On prior threads about Honest and fair Lexus dealers. There was one or two mentioned between Atlanta and Athens. And Park Place Lexus in Plano, Texas. Has excellent prices. My local dealer wanted $150.00 for a TPS. Park Place sold it online for $75.00. Call for their web page address. They have parts and their prices listed for review. 1-800-275-5398
  15. There are two ways. Under the dash or under the hood. Under the hood is much easier. Near the front of the engine, on the drivers side is a black plastic box. Looks like a small fuse box. Open the lid and look under the lid for the diagram of the terminals. Turn the ignition switch to on ( do not start) use the clip or an electric wire to jump the TE-1 and the E-1 terminal Be sure the wire or clip does not move and touch any other terminals. Could cause a problem. Look at the CEL. It should be blinking. A normal code will be a constant steady blink of a 0.25 sec duration Abnormal codes will read 1 to 7 blinks for the first number then a short pause then blink 1 to 8 times for the second number in the code. If you have more than one fault code. It will start at the lowest number code first. Don't worry if you miss a code, It will keep repeating untill you remove the jump wire or turn the key off. Post your code/s. Someone will have a key chart.
  16. Anyone develope an oil leak after the seafoam treatment? I have not added any to my oil change. I would like to do this. But from the talk of oil leaks developing after switching to a synthetic oil that broke down engine sludge. I wpuld like to hear anyones thoughts.
  17. Manual states that the main O2 sensors are being affected by the following: 1) open or short in main O2 sensor circuit. 2) Main O2 sensor 3) ignition system 4) engine coolant temp. sensor 5) blocked injector 6) volume air flow meter 7) loosr engine ground bolt 8) foreign object cought in valve 9) fuel line/injector leak or blocked 10) timing belt slipped 11) engine compression 12) ECM and or wire harness
  18. Try a can of BG44K fuel system cleaner. Available at most dealers. Web www.bgprod.com for info on it. Then do the plug/wire change. I think that bosch fouls out early. I put NGK iridium. I'm very happy with them.
  19. Surging, per the factory chart is #1 SWITCH CONDITION SIGNAL CIRCUIT which includes the park/neutral position switch. The Air cond switch signal. And the Throttle position sensor. The second area to look at is the fuel pump control circuit. These are listed as the #1 area for a prob. with surging, poor accel., Incorrect first idle, rough idle, idle hunting, high idle, stall after pedle depressed.
  20. I did not state that you would find the fix for this problem. Only that you would find this to be a somewhat common. And frustrating problem.
  21. There is a recent thread on this site. That has a link to Pioneer car stereos. They have a direct fit replacemenr for the gen 1 ls 400. Price was around $380.00 for the unit. And $50.00 for an I-Pod hard wire connector. You could search the threads. Or try Pioneers web site The mod. # is FH-P4200MP
  22. The repair manuals matrix chart shows that the EGR system shoukd be checked if you are having rough idling. For hesitation and or poor acceleration the first place to look is the Switch condition signal circuit. Which inclede the TPS. The Park/Neutral position switch. And the Air conditioning signal switch. All three adjust the air flow/idle speed. The second area for poor acc. is the Volume air flow meter. Then the injector circuit. After that it's the fule pump control circuit. You will find a fee access to an online factory manual at http:// techinfo.toyota.com. Around $10.00 per day.
