  1. Yeah they call it parasite drag in the air force. Anything that causes drag on the airframe or in this case the automobile. I would think the visor (tilt) would not be a big deal. Wide open would obviously be another issue since its more drag.
  2. Well for the future... Drivers education and a training car. Something other then a LS400. Now if the kid was going to fast that is one thing, but he was driving a car that handles like nothing else. Good luck and good bye to another LS.
  3. Well I was driving home and I noticed my LEXUS passed the 95000 miles. I have owned this car for 3 months and it is the best purchase of my life! I love this car and just spent about 300 bucks on cleaning, buffing and polishing materials. After buying this great car I put about 2.5k into wheels, cover, tires, plate, taxes, tint, MP3 transmitter and other minor additions. The LS is fast, sleek and smooth. The performance is awesome! This car likes to cruise at 75-80 and with the big V-8 getting over 20MPG how can I complain. After driving a Taurus and Contour for years my wife and I enjoy going to places in style. It makes me laugh when my insurance is $400 and taxes are $300 bucks. I feel like I am getting away with something. Makes me laugh when someone I know has a $1800 in sales tax, $400 car payment, $1800 yearly tax payment and a yearly insurance payments of $1500 on a new Taurus or Altima. Living life with this LEXUS makes sense and is so relaxing. Knowing that you have no car payment and the car is going to last is a wonderful feeling. In fact this experience has been so wonderful that I will buy a 98LS next year. What can I say I would like to have two. Cheers to LEXUS
  4. Someone was talking about yellow solution in the LS400 area. I forgot what used, but they said it worked. I wish I used it before I spent about 200 bucks on my Ford Contour before the engine went. Now the car is a perfect test car for my buffing and touchup trials.
  5. The 98 is a great LEXUS and that seems like a good deal. I would take it for a test drive and make sure.
  6. Never thought about the window down. I always have my arm out the window. Okay so I need to pay attention, keep the window up and enjoy the AC. I just accept the fact that each fillup for 400 miles is about 50 bucks. On the mythbusters did they do anything with the sunroof and AC on? Anything other then window down? I am going to their website. Chow
  7. I use common sense and avoid the electrical components and high pressure. I also leave the car running. I dont see how you could crack the engine with any water. I think a degrease on the top of the engine and then a soft wash with a brush is not a big deal and it will look great. Good luck.
  8. I realize my LEXUS gets about 20 MPG.. Then I started to think that I always have the AC on... So what can I expect when the AC is off..? Maybe a mile or two more? Gas can go over $3 a gallon because I love my LEXUS and it loves premium fuel!
  9. Insurance is 350 here.. THat is a 93 with liability and collision. Also if I were to look for a LEXUS again I would check carfax and maintenance records. I know more then ever if you know what to look for (laymens for laymens) you will know during the test drive what is right or wrong. With everything being equal I would take a car with lower mileage. Now if someone lives in NYC and they have 20k less I would think they have more city miles. I do know that my older friends who drive nice and easy with a mix of city and highway seem to have cars that last forever. They have crappy Fords and Chevys that last forever. So I guess regular maintenance and not romping on the car helps.
  10. I am going to order the pen, brush applicator, primer and clearcote tonight.. The scratches and nicks are random. Some are small and there is a few inch long scratches. Now I also bought some 1000 grit sand paper. So I am going to practice all my skills on my ford contour before I work on the LEXUS.
  11. I love that dash. Wow that looks nice. What year?
  12. Yeah I suspect you need at least 1500 after labor in front end repairs. I think the LED in the dash is another hundred bucks. Does it need new tires? No big deal. The mileage is great and if you fix the issues for 2,000 you could sell the car tomorrow or next year for $13,000. So good deal.. Actually a very good deal for 10,000. Enjoy the LS. LS400 is an amazing car!!
  13. Do you trust your boss? Does he drive like an animal? Is he the original owner? Second 10k sounds like a good deal. If he would not have an issue with you taking it to LEXUS for safety check do it for $100. Use the laymens for laymens buyers guide. Good luck.
  14. Thanks for the update. Love live LEXUS! Toyota is awesome.. They are going to add 13 new fuel cell models.. A total of 600k cars next year. It amazes me that it takes a foreign company to help our oil issues. GO LEXUS and Toyota!
  15. My car makes noise when I fill gas tank also. Heat or summer temperatures turns liquid into gas, while increasing pressure. This I suspect is a venting sound when you open gas tank. Not a big deal as far as I am concerned.
  16. Thanks man. Yeah I did a few mods, but nothing out of this world. As for the tint I have always put 35 on the rear and 20 on the front. This seems to keep the police happy, while protecting my interior and keeping LEXUS cool. The wheels and tires are awesome! Another awesome addition to come is my veteran plates with my name! I cant wait! I will have more pictures when plates are received. Along with the obvious changes I had to get the dash lights and needles fixed. What amazes me is the fact everyone was *BLEEP*ed off that I was going to buy a 1993. Well now everyone is like your 2000 LEXUS is awesome! Cheers to LEXUS!!
  17. Here is a pic. They look great and they are easy to clean. They are normally about 300 bucks.
  18. I get about 19-20 with my 93. Anyone have any different MPG with different fuel companies? Texaco? BP? Mobil? Shell? Hess? I have been keeping my receipts to compare, but not enough miles yet to have a solid conclusion.
  19. Well I spent two wonderful hours touching up my LEXUS!! Then the worst thing happened.. I saw a nick in my new wheel.. Dont worry I did not panic, but it was tough. I dont know what the hell hit my wheel, but there is a .2 inch by .3 inch .05 inch deep nick in the wheel. I have a finished silver. Can this be repaired or do I have to spend $200 to buy a new wheel. Thought I would include a few new pictures of the LEXUS! Cheers to LEXUS
  20. If you go to the lexfest.net website there is about 300 pictures. Some have the black and it is not to nice.. Personally I have polished silver and it is awesome!! This pic does not do justice..
  21. LEXFEST here I come! I look forward to seeing all the Lexus's. Someone add the updated information... Cheers to LEXUS..
  22. I would be careful of the 5%. I mean if you get pulled over they will make you take it off. If you have 35 on the front and 20 on the back roll down the windows and be nice.. They dont bother you.. Also at night its easier to see out your side windows if you are not used to tint. 20% is dark at night so 5% is really dark..
  23. 98 is awesome!! Get a low mileage and save 8k up front then a few grand in taxes and extras. I have a 93 and I love it!! So if you get the 98 you will love it!
