  1. That is a slot for a cup holder. On the 92&93 models there was no cupholder (at least for usdm models). I think in 94+ models the cupholder was given to us. Why, I don't know. You may purchase the cupholder and install it. My 93 didn't have the cup holder, but the 95 does. I'll post some pictures. Here is my old 93 interior - note the empty space.
  2. The connections are different. It would take some intelligent electrical modification to make it work. It is not impossible, but I would not bother. Those units are problematic. Generally, no it won't work, but if you have some electrical skills and the desire - it just might.
  3. Umm, all lexus SC's had keyless entry on the key itself stock. If you don't have the transponder key, you will need to get one in order for it to work. Otherwise you can use an aftermarket system to do the same thing with an external transponder unit. Also, there is a switch beneath the steering wheel on the lowest dash panel that will activate and deactivate keyless entry on the SC's.
  4. Ever since about August or so of last year I have been receiving messages from various "concerned" parts in the area Nigeria, Coate de' Ivore, Abidjan and the like. They involve various different people like the widow of an ambassador, the engineer of a large oil firm, or government representative. The common trait is that they all have a large sum of money (read 15 to 50 million US dollars) that they want me (or whomever else they may message) to help them with. They offer 20 to 30% of the funds if I help them transfer money overseas into United States investment or help them launder the money through various banks around the world. Here's the catch. Once they bait you and get you excited about the money, they begin asking for personal information. Bank account numbers, personal home address, business address, fax, phone on and on. The true motive of these people or whoever they are is to empty an unsuspecting persons business account. I have been in contact with the FBI internet fraud division. They basically told me not to send them any money or have and contact with the senders of these e-mail messages. It kind of infuriates me that these people actually get away with this sometimes. I must admit the first time I read the message, I was excited. But a nagging feeling prompted me to do a check. And here is what I found: http://sweetchillisauce.com/nigeria.html http://home.rica.net/alphae/419coal/ http://www.aarp.org/consumerprotect-frauds...erianMoneyOffer Don't be taken advantage of. There are tons more examples on line if you search google. If anyone would like I can post the latest e-mail I have received and it will be earily strange the connections between the message and the internet information. Take care and be ware - if it sounds to good to be true, it is. And someone is trying to rip you off.

  6. I suppose the answer lies in your goal. Quality daily driver with no to mild mofification? SC400. Virtually limitless modification (performance wise = horsepower) and a real spanker on the street or track - SC300. You really can't go wrong with either SC. From my experience and hindsight - SC300 5 speed all the way. Good mileage, quality performance and fun. The SC400 can offer the same - so if you don't care about ease of engine modification, go for the one in the best condition that suits your liking most. Automatics can be nicer in traffic. Manual can be better off the line and offer max rev potential (if the driver is decent). With either 300 or 400 auto there are a few easy changes that will help with the hole shot. SC400's have a power steering pump over the alternator. They seem to give out in tandem. The SC300 has a water pump over the alternator - same situation. (Or is it the water pump on both models?) Whatever. The SC300 engine is a little easier to work on. For example, if the starter goes - the 2jz-GE starter is much easier to acces than the 1UZ-FE. With both models, there is the potential for some electrical nuances. So a newer model may delay any of those issues. That might rule out a 5 speed. But in the end, most issues can be dealt with quite easily by almost anyone with average technical ability. Good luck. Did that help? Maybe someone else should answer <_<
  7. Welcome Pappa Nomad B) . I am interested in some parts... I'll be in touch. Let me generate a wish list. Keep us posted on your progress. Should we make this the Boostin Forum? :D
  8. Not sure no. It would be very easy to verify though. Just pop the hood. I don't have one, but they are built here in Georgetown Kentucky so maybe I can get an answer shortly.
  9. Correct, I have a jzz31 the 430's are jzz4x. There apparently is a spare donut kit available from Lexus. But it costs an arm and a leg rite now. Hypothetically, one could buy another SC430 wheel (I've seen them on e-bay) and shoe it to retain for spare use. Maybe leave it in the garage and come get it when the uneventful situation occurs or leave it in the trunk, though I suspect it would be too big and probably take a lot of space. Or you could get a set of aftermarket wheels, rumor has it that the sensors can be swapped to new rims, and buy 5 instead of 4 and keep the new extra wheel around. Or try to find a spare from another vehicle that will work in emergency situations, I'm sure there is something out there with the same bolt pattern. Possibly a spare from a SC300/400. They have the same bolt pattern and carry a full size spare ;) .

  11. A members' <_< rides section - photo gallery?
  12. Welcome to the club! These guys are hott! With TWO T's. ;)
  13. LOL - no I can't be an admin. That is what Matt is for. Just interested in seeing this site take off. Tell all your friends about this great lexus site. Things will really take shape as more members appear and contribute. :D I'm getting ready to stock my closet with some of that nifty apparel in the merchandise area. Nice stuff. Keep on coming back B)
  14. http://l-tunedparts.com/ Check out the camry models for cross-reference to the ES.
  15. Check all fuses for proper seating in their holders. Clean the battery terminals. Then search for the rogue ground. It may be best to start with the item that seemed to cause the failure but that can be misleading. My previous sc300 cut out all dash power once when I hit the breaks. The fuse for the radio was blown as well as the fuse for the cigarette lighter. My car had some "custom" wiring done by the previous owner. Had to pull the aftermarket radio and found the power for it coming off of the cigarette lighter as well as power from the lighter going to a couple other components. To top it off, the ground on ciggy light was *BLEEP* poor. I had to do some rewiring but after all was done, no more problems. I can't say definitely what the cause for the two of you is without going into the car. But it is definitely a similar situation. Check all grounds easily visible first related to the accesories that were in use at the time of failure. Something is loose. A fuse or a wire. Clean any degraded connections first and foremost the battery terminals. Then circuits will have to be traced. Good luck.
  16. I don't know that injen makes something for the 1jz turbo soarer. I thought all of their applications were for n/a 2jz-ge motors. But I would recommend a quality supratt intake kit from any of the major producers like blitz, hks and the like. Here is an example. http://www.turboimports.com/intake-toyota-...toyota-mr2.html
  17. This thread will be used to rate your dealership's sales, service and parts dept. Please use this format; Dealership Name: City and State: Your rating: 5 stars maximum Would you recommend this sales dept: (Yes or No) Would you recommend this service/parts dept: (Yes or No) Sales contact: Service advisor/contact: Any specific technicians: Comments, positive or negative: Pricing for common service: Please rate all dealerships in your area where you have personal experience. This data is for registered users to allow others to review feedback about various dealerships in their area. Please feel free to add any other data point you feel useful to the survey. [pinned?]
  18. I forgot to mention TOYOMOTO. Any good performance shop should be able to install your torque converter. The dealer may as well, but there are mixed reviews about that. Sometimes they will not. Search your area (phonebook, internet, contacts) for reputable transmission shops and performance shops. Check them out well before you do business with them. All should be well then.
  19. Welcome to the club. Great car! The torque converter is an excellent idea for the car. I have heard great things about Precision Industries. This will free up a lot of loss through the transmission. HP gains are subjective. The only way to get an accurate representation of horsepower gains is to dyno the vehicle before the installation and after. http://www.converter.com/ The electric fan deal works only with the 2JZ-GE(GTE). The stock fan on those motors is driven by the crank via belt with clutch mechanism. On the 1UZ-FE, the fan is driven hydraulically by the power steering pump. It would be very difficult to do this on the SC400 and gains are minimal. I had this on a previous 300 and am not convinced it was worth it. AT most it would free up maybe 5 to 10 horsepower at times when the fan is (would have been) engaged. They say 10hp for every pound removed from the rotating assembly. I believe cone filters are generally a waste but not necissarily. If you leave the stock piping from the box to the throttle body, then you will increase flow and retain the well engineered intake ducting. It is a waste to replace this stock ducting at all applications other than top end. Performance is lost off the line. I recommend the BFI homemade intake. Read about this here. http://planetsoarer.com/BFIDIY/BFIDIY.html And more modifications and explanations intake ducting: http://planetsoarer.com/#BFI There will be a slight performance gain here. I'd recommend a complete custom exhaust for the price of these cat-backs. There are a lot of options. Maybe lex400sc would like to give some ideas here. He also has a great site posted in our FAQ section. Check it out. Lots of good stuff. The best oil? Personal preference goes large here. I've always used mobil 1 synethetic. So do many others. But any quality oil will work. Crudely, oil is oil. Change it at normal intervals (3,000 miles) and things should be just fine. Others have rather emotional opinions to this - and it is the life blood of the vehicle. So check up on various oils and find the one you feel most confident with. Chances are, the car has been maintained well so it would be fine to stay with the oil the previous owner was using. Again, personal preference. 5w-30, 10w-30 Any high quality filter properly sized will do well. Recently, I have used FRAM extra gaurd. Air filter elements, K&N makes a direct drop in that is reusable (clean it). That could be ideal for the BFI. Or you can use a cone with a adapter plate for the maf. Most are adequate. Service in Florida: "Dealership: Lexus of Clearwater, Clearwater, FL Rating: ***.5 Would you recommend this service/parts dept? Yes Your service advisor/contact: Ongoing turnover of service reps Different one each time I'm there" "Wilde Lexus of Sarasota,FL. Rating: ** Parts: Paul Service: Audrey Comments: Paul in parts has been very, very helpful from day one and realizes the over prices of the parts and service. Audrey is fun to talk to and knowledgeable but this is where it all stops." I don't know if either of those are near you but one was deemed good by one customer and the other was deemed bad by another customer. The recent addition here was originally a Miami car and had been serviced at: Lexus of Kendall County Line Lexus I can not attest to the quality of service. Maybe it was good. We will be started a dealer review thread here at this site for various dealer's across the U.S. in the near future. All users are invited to post their experience and satisfaction level. Good luck AJ
  20. From 260 to 350? Maybe - but you'll be stressing something. My guess is the turbos will be first to go. But your list sounds very adequate. Again, without much first hand experience, I can not say with confidence. The down pipe will help as well as freeing the exhaust up down the line - beware of emissions depending on your state. I don't know about the soarer but toyota uses a an abv on their turboed vehicles. It is basically a bov, but depending on the amount of boost you want to run you would want to change it out. I think you'll get close if not there like that - let us know how it works out. Kick butt in style B) AJ
  21. Very interesting. The Japanese market is the forefront eh? No problem.
