  1. Here's a thread about using acetone in auto fuel. I'd be somewhat concerned about any rubber parts that this comes in contact with. I've seen lab pump seals ruined by trying to clean with acetone. http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic6172-0-asc-0.html
  2. Considering the way gas prices have been lately, the MPG increase alone would make the mod well worth the effort. Performance would be an added bonus. From what I've read of posts here, lots of people are into DIY, so I can see where people would want to try this.
  3. Just picked up an 01 for 15,800 -57,000 miles....hold off on the 210k, def. can find a better deal. Mine runs smooth as a baby, scary goin 100 feels like 45. Ive fallen in Love. ← Sounds like a good deal. These cars really ride and travel nice, to be such good handling machines. I'm still impressed with mine after two years.
  4. There is probably a vent line that goes from the filler neck to the charcoal canister under the hood. If this line is disconnected or plugged the car may not take gas.
  5. It is a Pontiac. I think he posted that to try to show similarity with the Lexus.
  6. Yep. Put in 5 quarts and top it off with a little over half a quart. You asked. Why would I *BLEEP* you?
  7. Zero. Paid cash for cars since the last 12 years.
  8. Back in the day, Mercedes was just a dressed up Studebaker. :D
  9. Didn't know the history. Fair enough.
  10. For post #44? I guess you read it differently than I did. :(
  11. I hope you don't expect Lexus to pay for your transmission repairs without their own verification that it's a warranty repair.
  12. I don't fit the usual demographic. I hardly ever go over 120.
  13. You should be able to buy a nice one for $20000. The wholesale is about $18,000 and retail at $22,000 for a 2002 model with that mileage. I'm not selling, but I did price my 2002 out at a true market value of $20000. I've got 36,000 miles.
  14. That wasn't my experience with the IS300. My insurance went up equivalent to the value of the car compared to the one I had trade in. There was no unusual increase in premiums.
  15. It's "E Shift". There are buttons on the steering wheel to upshift and downshift at will. It's standard on IS300 atomatics. If you select gear 3, for instance, the trans will not shift above 3 until you push the upshift button. It's mostly good for some curvey road driving, but mostly good for using engine braking when coasting. If you leave it in gear 5, the car will shift normally. Dunno about the tint. You could "build one yourself" on www.lexus.com and see if extra tint is an option. You won't find any basic problems as long as you buy a 2002 or later model, that has been well maintained.

  17. Looks like it attaches to the space left and below of the shift knob, I see two potential issues : It may interfere with a fidgety driver's right leg , and You have to make holes in the vehicle (it attaches by screws, according to the diagram). Even without these issues I question if this item is money well spent, it is essentially a fancy holder for gas receipts and gum wrappers. It certainly doesn't look like it can hold anything larger. ← It's on the passenger side. It's a JDM pic.
  18. Most vent spraying, etc are "band-aids" and only temporary solutions. Usually the mold/mildew or whatever resides in the evaporator and really doesn't get totally flushed out. Get a can of DW2 evap core cleaner and run it through the system. If you dont feel comfortable with doing that, have a a/c tech do it for you. The stuff foams up, cleans the entire evap system and gets flushed out through the condensate drain. I used this stuff on mine over a year ago and no odors have returned. One thing to check before that is to make sure your condensate drain is clear . If you don't have a puddle of water on the floor after driving with a/c on, then it could be plugged or partially plugged. That would surely promote growth of mold/mildew in the evap system. http://www.ackits.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=dwd2
  19. :D I also used it on the rear axles. Worked really well. Everything I've put it on still looks good. ←
  20. It's not to drive fast at a steady freeway speed, but to do some kick down accelerations once in awhile. Just blow it out once a week or so, and it will keep on running and shifing well. Of course, if you drive like a granny for the next few hundred miles, the car will revert to granny style. :D
  21. Weapon R has one but I think it's black plastic.
  22. The G35 should be compared to the IS350, engine size wise. Both right at 300 HP.
