  1. Get the navigation, you will love it. Plus when it comes time to trade in your car, it will be worth MUCH more. It ends up being worth the extra $$$. It's not hard to "use" the navigation. It becomes a pain in the butt on occasion when it doesn't have the street, store or restaurant you need, but most of the time you just have to smile when it gets you right where you wanna be, when you had NO idea how to get there. Trust me you'll love it!
  2. if you found the broken clips, glue them back on. You can see where the break is. get some epoxy from any hardware store etc. There's hardly any stress on these clips, so this fix will be fine. This is from personal experience. I had the leather replaced by the lexus dealer. The leather was somewhat "wrinkled" surrounding this thing, so i tried pulling it off to get better access, and broke BOTH top clips. I used the epoxy to glue the clips back on, and everything's fine. It's not like anyone will ever see the fix anyways. Good luck and ask if you have any other questions. This is something you can do in your garage for less than $3.00 in under 10 minutes.
  3. I just put Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's on my rx300 and they are absolutely WONDERFUL. Dispite the VERY deep tread they are extremely quiet. I looked at the "ratings" at tirerack.com and they almost double the mich's and any of the competition. I still think they're worth it at $145 a tire. You get $75 back if you buy all four though. I love them!
  4. The radio dial is silver painted. Are we thinkin of the same thing? Acetone will melt plastic and make the finish "foggy". If you use it on the silver painted plastic knobs it might remove the silver or discolor it. If you rub it, it will remove more silver surrounding the nail polish, before it removes the polish (the polish is more dense than the silver on the knob). i've never tried it before, but that's my guess as to what would happen using acetone. I'd call lexus and ask for their opinion. That way, if their suggestion causes disaster they may feel obligated to help you replace it!
  5. She didn't end up contacting the company :o She said it "slipped her mind"
  6. I'm actualy not sure what happened. I told her she should contact the company but i haven't really spoken to her since. I'll ask her tomorrow when our family's together.
  7. What about it do you need help with? the various functions etce...?
  8. Use something like Lexol, that's less viscous. Make sure to buff it dry before you sit in it. Even better, let it dry over-night before you sit in it. Dirt etc will get trapped in the little holes if it's not completely evaporated.
  9. Ask your body shop. They'll be able to tell you whether or not their paint is cured yet. My current body shop told me i could wax it right away (actually they waxed my whole car before i got it back). The body shop i had before that said the traditional 30 days.
  10. Most FWD models come without a rear spoiler, xenon headlights or heated seats (because these are usually needed for winter). Nav is just an option, which is NOT contingent on whether or not it has heated seats etc. or not. I've seen FWD's with all the options, they're just VERY rare... I've never understood the "performance packages" etc each car comes with; i just make sure everything i want is there, before i buy it! The only "extra" options that are available for the 01-03 rx300 are: spoiler, heated seats, navi, xenon, towing package, and a wood steering wheel and shifter knob. The tan and grey leather was only available for the 99-00 model rx300's. Black interior was introduced in 01, along with the "lighter" tan interior.
  11. There's no such thing as a 93 rx300, it's either a 99,00,01,02 or 03. If it has the grey interior, it's either a 99 or 00. FWD should be fine as far as the transmission goes. Are you sure you're talking about an rx300?
  12. The oil sludge was fixed for 02 and 03, but i'm not sure about the transmission problem... I had an 02 rx300 AWD and it was showing the same symptoms my 99 did right before the transmission went out. I got rid of it asap. I actually think the rx300 drives "better" than the rx330/350. It's quieter and i, personally, feel more comfortable in it. The only reason i "would" like the rx330/350 more, is because it's "new". Plus the headlights and navi system is an upgrade... If they were still making the rx300's today, i'd have it instead of my 350.
  13. I believe there's a member on this forum who had problems around 40,000mi? But there are other peope who have rx300's near 200k miles on it's first transmission! Some say it's because the owners never took care of it, yet some state they DID take care of it, and still had a problem. You may be one of those lucky owners; you may not. Just choose whichever car you like best, and feel more comfortable in. For $6k difference, a LOT can break on the rx300 for you to still be ahead. And that may not happen for 5 years down the road... Honestly, i'd go with the rx300.
  14. Here are a few pictures of what to do (same for your rx300). You need a flat head screw driver and a philips head as well. Use the flat head screw driver to pop off the caps that cover the screws that attach the unit to the car (there are two of these; you will see them). then remove these screws with the philips head screw driver. Then gently pry the unit off of the car using the flat head screw driver (see pics). you can use your hands as well to pull it away. Do not pry from the side where the screws are; start from the other end. don't worry, it may "feel" like something's going to break; but it wont! Good luck!
  15. You can't just replace the lense, you would have to get a whole new unit (it's sealed). If you have xenon headlamps, you're looking at a much higher price than if you just have halogens. I would try ebay. It is NOT easy to replace. Just pop your hood and take a look; it is not a simple task. How deep are the scratches? Have you thought about buffing them out? That "fog" will come off as well if you use coumpounds to buff it out.
  16. I still haven't gotten around to buying one of these damn things! I've heard so many good things about it on this forum etc, and keep telling myself to pick one up "next time" i'm at the store; but it never seems to happen. thanks SW! I wouldn't use it on paint if i felt it was too rough.
  17. Oh yes, she's been keeping my wife and me pretty busy! She's such a joy! My wife's LS430 is completely destroyed though :( When our first kids was born, they were mostly transported in my 1990 Ls400, to which i was still able to keep spotless. One year of having a baby under my wife's ruling, in HER car; a disaster! Only a few more years... <_<
  18. Some AWD rx300's have had serious transmission problems, while some have not. It's different from rx300 to rx300. I've owned both the rx300 and rx330, and personally like the rx300 better (besides the transmission faulure-part). A new transmission for the rx300 goes for about $4400. That's less than the $6k difference you have b/t the rx300 and rx330. If you like the rx300 better than the rx330, then go for it. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid, have it flushed every once and a while if it gets dark, and cross your fingers. There are quite a few rx300 owners out there with almost 200k miles and no problems. There are also a few rx300 owners (such as myself) who had a $4400 bill around 70k miles. There don't seem to be any huge problems with the rx330, YET. I would personally go with the rx300... only because in general, i think it's of higher quality, and of better materials (just my opinion).... I currently own an 07 rx350 and often opt to take my kid's rx300 to work instead. Just be prepared for a huge bill if that transmission goes!
  19. Is the rx300 all wheel drive? or two wheel drive?
  20. Trust me, the Rx is a much better SUV. I have never owned an ML, but i have driven in them. They're not as "quiet" or luxurious- just not a Lexus! Plus, the materials are CRAP.
  21. This is the catback exhaust system on the fx. What parts would i need to put on the rx? would i need all the piping etc? or JUST the muffler?
  22. They don't feel like a lexus, at all. You will notice the difference and regret making the switch! :chairshot:
