  1. The picture with the black "new" looking rx isn't what it's going to look like. It's only a "drawing" some random person drew, "guessing" what it might look like. I do like it much better than the current rx though!
  2. Get the rotors and new pads online (for less $$$) and bring them to the mechanic down the street. It's not that hard for an average mechanic to do. It will cost a lot less as well. It's actually better to get new rotors than re-surface old ones. I did the math at one point...
  3. I would def go with ebay then. You could always sell the bulb on ebay later on. You can get a good $50 for a used one.
  4. When they say the light has a green tint, they're referring to the "plastic" which has a light green tint. The actual bulb "light" is a white/blue. All rx300 headlight units have that light green tint in the plastic. Was your actual "bulb" damaged in the accident? The headlight unit on the auction you posted has its own "bulb" too. Xenon bulbs change color a bit as they age. If the bulb in the new headlight is newer/older than the bulbs in your car, that bulb may appear a different shade of white/blue than the old one. Try to find a headlight without the bulb, if you don't need one. It will be cheaper (these bulbs cost around $100 each) and you will be able to use your old bulb (if it's still ok). Ebay will usually give you a better deal than anywhere. What about this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-03-LEXUS...sspagenameZWDVW This one has the bulb too, but it's much cheaper than the one you found. You could always put your old bulb in this unit.
  5. I'd try ebay. NEVER buy one from a dealer because of the high cost. MAKE SURE you see a picture before you buy. There are a few "aftermarket" ones that look similar at first glance, but look awful up close. This is the link to see a good one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS-99-03...sspagenameZWDVW This one comes just "primed", not painted in the color of your car. Take it to an autobody shop and have them look up your paint code and paint it for you. They'll probably charge you around $50 to paint it. and you can install it yourself, as it's attached with sticky tape. You just have to clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol first. This is your best bet.
  6. These engines can go more than 250,000 miles (~400,000 km) if taken care of correctly. The question here isn't the engine, but the transmisson. I noticed your rx300 is all wheel drive. These transmissions have been known to fail early. Check the transmission fluid; make sure it's light red in color and doesn't smell burned. Have it flushed or replaced every so often, and you should be fine. You can have the "stock" navigation installed, but you'll be looking at a few thousand (US dollars). This topic has come up a few times on this forum; you can try looking them up, or someone else may be able to help you. There really aren't any major problems with the rx300. Just browse the forum and you'll see everything that's come up with the members here. Three years from now, your Rx will be 8 years old. Right now, a 1999 rx300 (8 years old) is worth around $12,000 (USD). I'm guessing in 2010 your rx will be somewhere around this? It's an amazing car. I've owned 3 rx300's and would buy another if they were still in production!
  7. What if someone were to move the intake air temp sensor to the cabin of the car (or a cooler spot), would one get better horsepower? If it's true that cooler intake airflow makes the computer increase the level of fuel in the mixture, which gives an increase in HP, would this work? Please correct me in this theory, for i have no clue what i'm doing.
  8. Is this thing just another one of those "modules" that won't work on a lexus? Any input is appreciated... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-RX300...sspagenameZWDVW
  9. You can get a much better deal on ebay
  10. In my opinion radar detectors are worth every penny. The radar detector i have installed in my cars consists of two sensors in the front grill (one for radar and one for laser) and the control panel inside the car's cabin. I have been using these detectors for over 5 years, and they work every time. I payed around $600 for each of them, but it's worth it. I have only received 2 tickets in the past 5 years, and they were only because i had it turned off! There are quite a few false alarms (around businesses etc.) but that only means it's more sensitive to radar. You have to figure, if it saves you from getting ONE ticket, it's just payed for itself. With the price of the ticket, possible lawyer or insurrance rate increases, $600 is nothing! Since the court has just ruled the charge "reasonable and prudent speed" invalid, police NEED to give a speed to write you a ticket (at least that's how it is in RI). They can no longer charge you based on their "opinion" of whether or not you were speeding. Unless they were using radar or laser, it wont hold up in court. So if i see a cop on the side of the road and my detector isn't beeping, i don't have to worry about my speed because he can't write me a ticket. I believe there's another way of clocking your speed, but i don't believe it's popular. I travel almost 2 hours daily, so being able to cruise at 85/90mph saves a lot of time. I feel much more comfortable having a radar detector! Whenever i begin to hear the beeping, i just slow down. Sometimes it's just a false alarm, but sometimes it's really a cop.
  11. Good possibility, but i found the problem. The fuse was blown out. Thanks!
  12. 2003 Rx300. Horn doesn't work. When panic alarm is pressed, the alarm sound is much quieter, almost muffled. What's wrong? Thanks!
  13. I was just going to suggest the same thing! Make sure the key you get on ebay is for the correct car though.
  14. Do you have any pictures for us to see? Maybe we can be of more help if we have a better idea of where the break is on the mirror.
  15. Have you looked in the manual? Your garage door opener may be of a rolling code, which requires a few more steps.
  16. Unless the scratches are HUGE and deep, they wont re-paint etc. They will use touch up paint and buff etc, but that's about it unless the damage is really bad. A lot of dealers re-paint bad areas before they put it up for sale. I tried to get my dealer to re-paint my mirror because of a few scratches before i purchased my rx300 cpo in 05 but they said all they "needed" to do for their standards was use touch-up.
  17. Whoever says that there's no difference between higher octane and low octane gasolines is WRONG. Even though the rx300 calls for 87, it runs MUCH better with premium. I have owned rx300's since 99 and have always used either the mid-grade or premium/ultra gas. My daughter filled it up with the 87 last week and didn't tell me. I drove it and noticed a HUGE difference in power, engine revs and transmission feel. I came home thinking there was something wrong with the car! Since i filled it up with premium yesterday, everything's back to normal. This made me think! With the lower octane gasoline in the engine, it seemed like the transmission didn't catch into each gear as quicly and smoothly as it did on premium. Not only does the engine have to work much harder, but the transmission must as well, right? Just trying to think of something else to help prevent these failures... Anyone have any input? And be brutal, i have no gas octane sensitivity :P
  18. Also make sure you clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol first to make sure the glue will bond <_< and more epoxy, the better! good luck! :)
  19. I'm surprised; when i tell my lexus dealer what car i'm looking for, i usually get calls from dealerships over 500 miles away contacting me the next day. A lot of dealers to "trades" if the car is at a dealer really far away, so you don't have to travel to see it in person. I guess since the 08's haven't been introduced yet, the dealer's don't even know their own inventory.
  20. You could always test an area. Get some nail polish, put it on some random scrap of plastic, let it dry (maybe blow-dry it) and test different solutions. I would still contact lexus. The call is free and they may have a good idea. You never know, maybe they'll even remove it for free! It can't hurt. I can't think of any other methods of removing it though without damaging the silver paint and plastic as well.
